Yes, I know that some are upset about this. All I can ask is your patience. Pick up the new DVDs with this sale and stay tuned.

Are there usually that many box sets in the weekly sales or am I still getting used to place?

Really all I have to say is I am simply amazed at the selection and prices offered here. I used to only scavange around at multiple best buys and amazon every so often. Now I am crying like a lot of people here but more over because your selling stuff I bought at christmas for much cheaper. All that wasted money I could of blown on additional anime. I'll get over it, guess I just have to pray to win some cash because all those box sets are screaming my name.

I'm looking to pick up some IY or so for the current sale.

Does the Dark Lord plan on making Viz manga regularly 25% off or having an "all publisher" manga sale some time soon? /images/graemlins/catgirl0.gif

Well, I'm going to end up placing two orders totalling $157.42 before discounts. If manga had been thrown into the mix, there would have been another $384.99 in purchases from me.

But I can wait. I have a backlog to keep me busy while I wait for a manga sale. /images/graemlins/tongue.gif

So than will those titles reappear there from time to time (within maybe a month or three)? I know on some they will probably disappear for a long while but you know some....Need some persuading not to splurge but than again you can tell me it's okay to splurge and that works to...

The ADV boxes will probably continue reappearing. Some of them have been up there a long while like the Saber Marionette J collection and the G Gundam collections which are there until he's out of stock. Once stock is gone, they are gone for good(unless he finds more in an unopened box in the warehouse like the empty Escaflowne boxes /images/graemlins/tongue.gif ). So tell us which sets you are thinking of and we'll probably be able to tell you if they will show up again. /images/graemlins/happy.gif

Not so much upset as a bit disappointed I guess, and it's mostly because I think of Viz more for its manga than its dvds to the point where I wasn't even thinking about the dvds. /images/graemlins/sweat200.gif heh.

I'm not participating in this sale but only because I have no interest in Viz's current set of dvds, however I may have to jump on a couple of those weekly bargains. /images/graemlins/sdsmiley.gif

I would bet on it. You guys might as well get your manga lists ready.

As for my only disappointment, I can only hope Naruto boxset is added to the site in time. I mean I'd only save $3 from what I would pay at DVDPacific so no biggie.

Yeah, but Shawne's supply of the sets at $19.99 is limited. So once these go away, he probably won't order any more unless he gets an order for the regular priced ones.

Yep! Just keep an eye on the stock counters. If they are running low of the title, then you will see "**insert number** left in stock".

Like they have on all the bargain bin type items? Sorry I'm busy figuring out my bank balance and if I should go a bit crazy. I have to grab saber marionette R and crest of the stars at least. Only if I could find the first box set of GTO but I think I'd have a better chance of winning the lotto.

Don't get too worried if an item does not have a stock counter. If it is in the weekly special and is still in print, you can order it anytime before the end of that week's sale and be (reasonably) assured you will get it. It may have to be re-ordered, but you'll get it.

We can only hope. Assuming it's the same discount as a studio sale, it could be good. However, I don't think there are any manga I need (well, there are many I need but the companies wont release them) aside from those two Viz series, so it'll be the same either way for me. But I'll look around a bit and see what else there is, if it does happen to be a sale like this.

Not including the manga is good for me...I'd have picked up Kenshin 7-28 after yanking the money for them out of my savings account. So kinda happy cause I need to behave with my money LOL

For DVDs, the only series Viz is releasing that I don't already have is Full Moon, but waiting for box sets on that.

Something else that occurred to me: about a year back, wasn't there a "while the cat is away" sale, when Shawne was at some con or another? He did say he'd be out of town, so no new sales until March 30th, but one never knows what that man has up his voluminous sleeve. /images/graemlins/sdsmiley.gif

I would never place an order at TRSI again. I hate credit cards, and I hate companies that try to cram them down your throat.

That's the main reason (other than discounts) I do almost all my anime shopping at TRSI - I can't stand the pushy mall stores who put the hot irons on you to sign up for their stupid CC's, when you're just trying to give them your money for a product and go. They've forgotten that they're trying to sell you MERCHANDISE, all that has fallen behind them trying to sign you up for credit.

I might be wrong at this, but ... Shawne's been listing more of them for the last few months than before... or maybe because he started to emphasis listing them with their own new section in his WS postings... ?! ... Really not sure why I have this impression... /images/graemlins/stunned1.gif

But, yeah! Usually they are half to two thirds of the number of box sets on this week's WS! /images/graemlins/wink.gif

You do know he has to pay for the items than subtract shipping and a whole bunch of other things before he can total up a profit. If it was so easy for him to make these studio sales than wouldn't he just keep them going twenty-four seven? I think he gets the point that people would like naruto uncut but hey if people want it that bad maybe he should wait so he can make some really good money and charge almost near retail price?

I'm thinking of making sure to grab jubei-chan, crest of the stars (to finish the two banner of the stars I've had for the past year) and please teacher, possibly moldiver. Any suggestions or warning that something might be going oop or already is. That twelve kingdoms looks nice but that price tag still kinda hurts /images/graemlins/depresse.gif.

Most likely. It'll probably go up five minutes after the sale is deactivated =P Ah well, no rush on that one. I'd like to get it ordered, but it's not like I'll see a new episode until boxset 10 anyway. Plus, unless Viz speeds up the release schedule significantly, I'll just buy the 10 boxes that cover what I've seen and then ditch the anime for the manga, from whatever volume makes for a good segue.

Like I said earlier, not really a big deal on my part I'll just buy it from DVD Pacific. And all because they're saving it for after the sale doesn't mean people are still going to buy it from them. I mean alot of these same people are well aware of who has the cheapest price, and if it TRSI doesn't have it during a studio sale then TRSI isn't the cheapest.

I'm not trying to put down TRSI, and sure there will be a few dozen loyal TRSI buyers who prefer the good CS and packaging, I'm just saying it's not so "wise" and so assuredly that as many people would buy it from them if it's not during the VIZ sale. I'll be gettin mine for around $32 shipped from DVD Pacific, but after adding 10 items it's more like $31, if that.

Then there are still a few willing to risk an order from DDD at a price of $30.

So it's hard to tell, but I don't think TRSI would make as much off Naruto after the VIZ sale.

If Shawne is already trying to get it on the site, great, too bad he can't tell us /images/graemlins/relief1.gif

Because there are multiple online sellers who charge almost as less (40% off MSRP) 24/7. And he would get about 1/100 of the Naruto fans to buy it from him versus 98/100 during the sale. (discounting the few TRSI loyalists who buy from them regardless of price).

I would have mentioned this in my previous post but I thought it was common knowledge.

On another note, Shawne I got Saikano and Ranma 1/2 OVA awaiting the last day of the sale, just incase you do manage to get a Naruto set up. And I've been contemplating Project Arms + 2nd but I would have to remove some items from my buylist to compensate the monetary amount (my buy list has about $3400 cash saved for a few... shows awaiting other studio sales). So I would just swap it for another show I don't mind holding out on.

I admit, I was expecting an ADV sale myself. Oh well, its just as well. I just recently got all 7 seasons of Star Trek DS9, so that put a decent hole in my checking account. So waiting a week or two more for an ADV sale is probably for the best. /images/graemlins/sdsmiley.gif

ADV sale could be moderately large for me, but that depends completely on restrictions. All they have scheduled for this year that I want is Diamond Daydreams, but I'd still like to pick up the Sakura Wars TV and Angelic Layer thinpaks. And I'd have to fight really hard with myself to keep holding off much longer on Fumoffu... /images/graemlins/sweat000.gif

But if there were no preorders and most thinpaks cut out, I might not even get an order together. Hmm. Depends how I go on Fumoffu.

TRSI IS NOT the cheapest (even with GotAnime). They are the cheapest only when running a studio sale when the discount is 40% plus the GotAnime discount). Otherwise, DVD Pacific is the cheapest because their discount runs from 30-42%, while TRSI runs 25% during pre-orders (up until 10 days before street, then it goes to 10%) and 10% during other times (not counting GA).

No I wasn't. I believe Shawne gets a slight discount from the actual studio during the sales(which is why he doesn't have these prices permanently). So Viz, trying to maximize profits on Naruto, are waiting to solicit the uncut boxsets until after this sale is over. This way, people not willing to wait for it, will get it where they make the most money off each set.

An ADV sale would be pretty deadly for me - I have about ten different ADV series that I only need one or two more discs to complete - and they've all been released, so the chances of them not qualifying for the sale are low. And about ten more series that I need more than three discs to complete...Ouch.

I'm kinda in the same boat. Except that I plugged in some holes using that recent BestBuy coupon. Right now I'd probably just pick up the last two discs for Gantz, Peacemaker and Get Backers, and maybe the last disc of Divergence Eve. I'll wait for Megazone 23, Gravion and Gravion Zwei to hit the Bargain bin before I pick up the one disc I'm missing of each. The rest of the incomplete ADV series I'm putting on hold for the moment. /images/graemlins/happy.gif

I am anxiously awaiting an ADV and Geneon sale! I personally only buy boxsets and when on sale such as the RightStuf sales.

I'm fairly new to buying anime dvds (been buying for a quarter of a year now), and new to RightStuf sales. Out of curiosity, how often each year do ADV or Geneon sales happen on RightStuf?

Thanks,

Most studio sales happen roughly every six months. Last ADV sale was November 2005, last Geneon sale was Jan. 2006 (IIRC).

I'm not expecting one for another month and a half (last one was in November).

An ADV sale wouldn't do to much damage, but I could definitely go after a couple of thinpack box sets.

So, Shawne didn't get me with the studio sale (waiting for whatever he has planned with the manga), but I am putting in my first ever non-sale/special/instabargain order ever. It just so happens that all the celestial bodies have lined up perfectly in such a way that it actually is worth it to make a preorder order, for like the first time ever.

1) Four Geneon preorders I want, Geneon being the company that TRSI makes out best with relative to other merchants, given Geneon's lower overall discounts. Getting Kamichu 1-2 and Kannazuki 2-3. I also love how quickly and far in advance Geneon solicits discs. That's definitely one thing they do very well. Probably wouldn't be able to do this very often with any other company, given what I put in during studio sales. Though with me ordering like 7 discs in the last Geneon sale, it's surprising they have 4 more for me to order already.
2) GotAnime dicount.
3) The lower free shipping.
4) There wont be another Geneon sale until probably July or something (wasnt there on in January?).
5) The $7 off $77 is usable here.

Combining them I can get the four discs for less than $0.60 more per disc than during a studio sale, which I think I can live with given how far off it is. Whee. I could add Gankutsuou 5 to my order but I'd just be diluting the savings (adding about $0.30 a disc). Gankutsuou can wait since I'd want to order disc 6 at the same time anyways.

And yay, by coming here to post this I remembered to use the affiliate link /images/graemlins/sweat000.gif

I've been trying to work out something similar, for Kamichu and Strawberry Marshmallow. Just need to find a way to get all those discs to ship last so they don't get stuck as reserved (I want the pencil boards). I haven't had much luck with RightStuf's partial shipment qualifications lately.

I was thinking of placing an order that has 1 DVD from each sale. Then I realized that you can only use one coupon code. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to place an order that has items from both sales? Placing two separate orders kinda ruins the sale price with the shipping and I can't afford to fill up two orders with other items to make $49.

My only thought was contacting customer service after I place the order to see if they can manually apply the other sale discount. Has anyone done this before?

Place two orders then call customer service and have them combine both orders into one and give you free shipping if you are entitled to it.

I add a request that the order be combined with another open order (i provide the order reference where i can) in the special instructions section that comes up during the ordering process. Hasn't failed me yet.
Though i've also been able to request additions and removals just through the customer service email.
The only caveat mentioned to me is that when you combine or modify existing orders, you can lose your allocation of items that are already reserved for your order, though that hasn't really been a problem in all the times i've been doing it. Helps balance out the extra cost of international shipping, particularly when i can combine several sales into an open order.
With Maison Ikkoku box 8 getting released in July, i've got until then to add weekly special, sale or daily deal items before it all ships as one.

Hmm, hopefully in that time Robot #2 will be on special, or there'll be a cross-publisher manga sale /images/graemlins/devil.gif

Saikano OVA
And another DVD to give to my BF for his Bday.. /images/graemlins/happy.gif Not gonna say what in case he reads this. Hehe.
Also went ahead and renewed my GotAnime membership which paid for itself in this order.

There is a problem with the Got Anime discount not being applied to some Viz sale items.

On my order, the Viz sale discount was applied to all of the Viz items, and my Got Anime discount was applied to all but the Saikano boxset (the emailed confirmation was $4.80 too small for the Got Anime line, and I confirmed on the website it was not applied too).

I have already sent an email to customer service, but I thought I should give a heads up here so everyone can check their orders more carefully to make sure this didn't happen to them too.

I dropped a note to Shawne asking him to look into what's going on - I'd hate to modify it myself since I don't know which way it should be (I don't know of any reason it shouldn't be eligible for the discount, but sometimes its hard to tell). If it was on the weekly specials recently, setting it back to being eligible may have just been overlooked.

With Viz done Sunday and the Hentai sale done tonight what could the dark lord have in store for his loyal followers? I see that there was a rather large Tokyopop update yesterday plus he did mention that he something up his sleeve in the beginning of the Viz sale on manga since it was a dvd only sale. Hmmm could manga shopping spree be the next in line, I guess on Black Thursday tomorrow will answer that question.

I don't think that existed the last time there was a TOKYOPOP Sale.

Well, one of the sales high on my want list. Just what I need to spend the money earnt from the crazy overtime I'm currently working . . .

I'd be happy with a TokyoPop sale but it would be kind of weird to have one before a Viz manga sale. I've still got some open orders for TokyoPop preorders through May. And I'm getting more and more behind with my Viz titles.

Let's Hope not. Because I probably won't order, sadly because of shipping. Very sad indeed. But seriously, I'd order about 20 items and then the shipping would be about 40 bucks...EEK!

Anyhoo, I got to get Last Exile DVD's (RACS) and FMA tin 1 from Digital Eyes!
I DO have an order WAITING /images/graemlins/anger100.gif Come on CPM, give TRSI your DVD's already!
I do love Rightstuf, to be clear.

A little Getbackers, Furuba and the two volumes of Jing I'm missing will due me here. Not a ton but enought to make me happy. I'd say about 8 manga for me should be enough.

20 graphic novels later /images/graemlins/sweat200.gif I can confirm that the coupon is active.

Now, to work on the Dark Horse and Viz lists . . .

Hrm, if it's TP I'm safe. They're dead in the DVD business and I am not collecting any manga from them at the moment so, eh.

Sigh with there stuff 25 % off and coupons from righstuf sadly this is not that great a deal. I was hoping for a all manga sale since I still dont have my viz books.

but with GA you still save another 1.50 on Tokyopop manga. 6 bucks isn't half bad though. Plus I need to recover before Viz manga breaks me in two.

The deal is a tad better than the 25% off + X off Y coupon + GA coupon, but only a little (about dime less per book).

It doesn't look like I have enough items to make an order for this sale. I took advantage of February's GA coupon on my last Tokyopop order (about 5 weeks ago), which btw I'm still waiting for a few of GNs to come back in stock. /images/graemlins/relief1.gif

I'm safe. I only want 2 mangas so I'll just wait for the Viz sale and add those to it.

Yeah, I know what you mean.... /images/graemlins/relief1.gif I'm currently collecting a grand total of 3 series from Tokyopop, only one of which has a volume listed I don't have yet. One volume of manga isn't enough for me to make an order, especially when I can get it for not too much more than this whenever I do get around to it. Meanwhile, there's ~100(?) manga I want from Viz.... Oh well. I picked up a few of the ones I really wanted last week, so hopefully that'll hold me over for a while....I just hope there'll be something happening soon (as opposed to waiting ~6 months for another Viz sale.... /images/graemlins/cry00000.gif ).

Eh, if you take the average GA coupon as being about 8% off (after 25% discount and before GA) a studio sale for manga only saves you about $0.20 more per book than 25%+$x off $y+GA. Still, that can add up, and its not like studio sales got worse -- its just that normal prices (if you can reach GA coupon min req that is, which would be rare for me) have caught up a bit. ::shrugs::

Too bad. I was interested, and looked at a few titles, but with the horrendus canadian shipping, it worked out to be about $9.35 usd PER BOOK! Not a good deal at all.

Rightstuf is great, but their shipping sure does suck.

Tokyopop, neat! I only have about 15 or so books I need to order, since the 25% off means I pad DVD orders with Tokyopop books, but it's great to get those out of the way.

I have a huge pile of cash just waiting for that Viz manga sale, though. Here's hoping I don't blow it all at NCRF this weekend. /images/graemlins/catgirl0.gif
