View Full Version : Fighting Beauty Wulong

I would like some thoughts on this. This is another of those "girls beat the crap out of each other" anime, right?
I like Air Master, Ikkitousen but hate Tenjo Tenge. Will I like this? How is the animation for the fighting scenes? Any detailed nudity? Any girl-girl subtext?

No detailed nudity.
No girl-girl subtext (well, I guess some people will be able to delude themselves into thinking the pro-wrestling team are lesbians, but there's no indication of any of them getting together).
The animation quality is average. They take a lot of short cuts during the fights. The show comes off more like a mix of ideas instead of one that was completely thought out. Much of it will remind people of Yawara mixed with Air Master, however it doesn't reach the same levels of either show.
I've been reading through the manga and purchased the first DVD (BCBA-2443 ships at the end of this month), but I wouldn't really suggest it for you.

Pretty much what the other guy said.
Almost the same concept as Airmaster, but loses and gains some things. It loses the fluid and amazingly animated fights (the fights range from alright to good), but gains the fact that Renge and Mina aren't in the series (BIG plus). The characters in general are nice to look at and are nowhere near as annoying. It's nowhere near as fanservicy as Tenjo Tenge, but it has it's flashes of it. The opening sequence of the first episode is pretty sweet, as is the OP itself.
I personally find Mao to be a cutie too.
I've only seen the first episode though, so I can't judge beyond that. I do want to see more.

Boo! I like Renge. I could do without Mina though.
Anyway if I recall correctly, I believe that Mina is one of pcc's favorite characters in Airmaster. So saying that there's no one like her in it doesn't really speak volumes. Of course I could be remembering incorrectly.
The best thing I can say about Wulong is that the R2s are cheap. 5 episodes per disc for around 5000 yen (or a bit less than 4000 yen on Amazon pre-order (http://www.amazon.co.jp/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000E6G14Y/)) was too cheap for me to pass up even for a mediocre series that I can best think of as being derivative.

Renge did had her brief moments... but Mina needed out of there.
