Production is underway for a sequel to the Appleseed film, as well as a TV series based on the franchise, according to an interview with Masamune Shirow in the latest Kikan-S magazine. LA's Axis Entertainment first announced the plans in December 2004. Source: Shirowledge

If the Appleseed TV series will be as good as GiTS:SAC/2nd Gig, it will be worth waiting for!

Great news! I love the manga and the first CG movie. (haven't seen the other, older movie yet).
I wonder if the series will be CG like that Dominion TV series that's supposed to be in production?

Frankly, I didn't like the CG movie at all because of all the changes they made. (The secret plot was especially stupid. The people who made the plan were suppose to be great thinkers who had been trying to figure out a plan for world peace for CENTURIES, and all they could figure out was human extermination?)

The whole thing with Dunan's mother was also sucky... The Bioroids are NOT suppose to be capable of genocide of humans! They might LOOK superior, but deep down, Bioroids respect humans as their creators, no matter how flawed we are.

Though Bioroid administration politicians were named after Greek Deities, they believe humans were their only true gods.(Athena said so.) We are their roots, we made them in our own image, and they didn't forget that. We are more violent than they are, we are more prone to crime than they are, we even live shorter lives than they are. But like children who loved their parents no matter their flaws, the Bioroids will not harm us.
Just as we are their parents, they are our children.

It's a pity all this was removed from the movie for the sake of a simple "us versus them" plot...
(The fact that Bioroids can't breed was also another stupid movie addition. Bioroids are suppose to have families! Societies! The tears of a biorid mother and her child at the morgue, seeing the corpse of her husband who was a bioroid soldier who fought and died for HUMANS, was a special moment in the manga.)

Just for your information, here is what the Elders REALLY came up with, in the manga:
They want all the humans to be turned into Bioroids. They concluded that the reason the world isn't perfect, is that you can't have a perfect world without perfect people.

Governor Athena, however, defended humanity in the Senate. She declared there was no point building a better world for humanity, if the humanity is no longer there!
Athena, together with her Secretory Nike, then proceed to pass the "Original Species Act", preventing all such tampering of the human species from being legal in the future.

No guns, no explosions. But it made more sense. Intelligent people are suppose to speak and act intelligently. And democracy did prevail. Majority of Bioroids had no wish to harm humans, and they will look for another way.

This is how Shirow writes his stories, and I hope the Appleseed TV series would do the same. Politics has always been a part of the Appleseed Universe, and I hope it stay that way.

I hope the TV is true to Appleseed's manga in story & characters.
The one thing I did like about (Japanese language) Appleseed OVA was that it had Deunan more or less as she was in the early manga, and her boozy friend.

Also, I'm hoping, like SAC, that the Appleseed world's background will be detailed & its history, lifestyles & settings play a good part.
