According to the updated Official site for CLAMP (http://www.clamp-net.com/) the first DVD for XXXHOLiC is going to contain the first three episodes and the series is planned to be released over 8 DVDs in total. Furthermore the CLAMP site states that each of those 8 DVDs is going to contain 3 episodes which would make the series to be 24 episodes in total.
Checking Amazon.jp they already list the first DVD here (http://www.amazon.co.jp/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000FEI4T0/qid=1145266569/sr=1-3/ref=sr_1_10_3/250-9136625-4029824).

Well, since I'm the original poster (and really didn't expect one of my RAAM posts to show up here!); I Googled the kanji from Neowing, found a page with a hiragana reading and a quick synopsis, romanised and Googled that and came up with the Lotus Lantern page. Seems like it's right.
Oh, and someone else has just corroborated it. Still, thought I should back myself up!

Apparently, it's got promo clips, interviews, clean OP/ED, an "introduction note" and a winter calendar. No box though... here's to hoping for 2 or 3 nice boxes to house the 24 episodes /images/graemlins/happy.gif

The postcard that came with the Air prelude disc was a calendar card too. Maybe they're doing the same sort of release style?

The first DVD volume for NANA has shown up (http://www.amazon.co.jp/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000F72NVC/) on Amazon.co.jp. The SRP (tax included) is 707 yen and it will street on 7/07. It only contains the first episode and as far as I can tell, no extras. CD Japan is listing it as a "Limited Low-priced Edition".
Amazon.co.jp is also listing (http://www.amazon.co.jp/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000FIH2LM/) for the same release date a version with an SRP of 1,890 yen, but the listing shows no information on the disc at all.

Yeah it is really confusing. It's compounded by the fact that niether CD Japan nor Discstation.co.jp show the second disc. I'm wondering if Amazon screwed up and added the title to an unrelated disc.
However, I do have a slight bit more info courtesy of Discstation's listing for the DVD. Apparently this one epiode volume is a limited release to be sold for only a short period of time. The length? 77 days. /images/graemlins/sweat000.gif I'm betting that the regular release will probably start after that time.
On another note, when I looked up the disc on Discstation, I noticed they had a listing for the soundtrack to be released on 7/07 as well. Oddly, I couldn't find it by searching on "NANA" in Amazon's music section, but running the catalog number through their search brought up a listing. It looks like there is also a limited edition version that contains a set of 7 postcards and a 49-page booklet. AS such:
Limited Edition (VPCG-84835) 2310 yen (http://www.amazon.co.jp/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000FI8UGS/)
Regular Edition (VPCG-84837) 2100 yen (http://www.amazon.co.jp/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000FI8UH2/)
Oh, and the cat # for the one-episode DVD is: VPBY-12553

707 yen is the 77日間生産限定価*版 version. It's a limited time price for 77 days from release. The other price is the standard price. I guess it's just easier for Amazon to make two separate entries in their database then have to change the price to the standard price after the limited time sale ends.
Anyway, at 707 yen I can't pass this one up... even though I know nothing about Nana. /images/graemlins/sweat000.gif

So, if I get what you're saying (to sum it all up), on 7/07, a special DVD is being released for 707 yen that'll be at that price for only 77 days. A soundtrack is also being released on 7/07 with 7 postcards and a (7x7=49)-page booklet.

The first episode is good to check out the show, however I am afraid that if we invest in these low-priced DVDs (presuming they will continue), VAP cmight be releasing the series in Boxes, like they usualy do....and the fact that VAP do make good boxes+ good FPs is not helping.
I will buy this DVD, however the moment I know that boxes or proper releses will be coming I will stop buying this.
What strikes me is that these dvds are numbered. does this mean that we wil have 26 DVDs? (assuming the series is 26 episodes)....seems very unrealistic. I think that these low price DVDs will not continue as having 26 Volumes is hideous. so maybe they want to take advantage of the 7/7 date, thats all.

The 2nd part of the original series is coming out in May:
http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/detailview.html?KEY=BBBA-9188
Although this is more of a re-release since the whole series was released on individual discs before (14 DVDs)
Now for the 1st time ever the first 4 movies (out of 5) and the 2nd Captain Tsubasa series will be out on DVD:

Also, it appears that the Memorial Boxes for Zeta Gundam and Gundam ZZ will be re-released on 07/14/06 (this based on the fact that both CDJapan and Amazon accept preorders for them). They seem to be the same as the previously released Memorial boxes.

Is there any info out there as to how long this show's going to run? Since the manga's run for quite a few volumes, and the anime's not covered much ground in the episodes that have aired, it seems like it can easily run longer than the 'usual' 24-26 episodes. I want to buy NANA, but I don't know if my shelves will hold too many more DVDs. ^_^;
Well, I wouldn't want them to cut the story short, so I guess that I hope that it'll be a large number of discs. <sigh>
I suppose that I could cross my fingers for a decent US release, but it'd probably be Viz that would get it. ;_;

Must have been a comb filter doing its work. Pop them into your computer and give it a whirl and you'll see tons of analog noise, dot crawls and rainbows. All the hallmarks of a non-remastered release. The title card (http://img224.imageshack.us/img224/7251/pdvd0044cp.jpg) itself is just a mass of crawlies.

I've seen the Japanese LDs; they have much more print damage than the R1 release. Maybe the R1s are subpar, maybe the R2s were not remastered correctly. But it is clear that the R1s used the same sources as the remastered R2 discs.

I just have to ask, where are you getting that the R2s were remastered? There's not a single mention of remastering on any info I've found on the R2s from Bandai's site or any retailer. If they were "remastered" it appears to be the same "remastering" that CPM or Manga did which is to say it seems they just dumped old analog masters to a digital master and claimed it was "digitally remastered".

You're correct that the discs aren't advertised as remastered, but neither, for example, was Dancougar and yet it's very clearly remastered as evident from comparing it to the VHS/LD release. Logic dictates that if the R1 was licensed after the R2 set came out and the video and print quality of the R1s is much better than the original Japanese Laserdisc release, the R1s are the higher quality masters. It's unlikely ADV would have significantly cleaned up the print themselves for a low profit release, and ADV also licensed the artwork and extras from the R2 release and not the LD release. Dunbine looks nice but far from the extensive remastering of other series around the same time like Giant Gorg or Layzner. I think it's fairly safe to say though that with the removal of a lot of print damage from the old versions, Dunbine's remastering was not merely transfering the old LD master tapes to DVD.

I skimmed the news here and didn't see it listed, but it appears as though the Fist of the North Star Super Premium DVD Box had a limited reissue.
CD Japan has an "exclusive" price on the reissue. (http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/detailview.html?KEY=CPBX-1)
Sorry if this is redundant info or if no one cares. /images/graemlins/wink.gif

Looks like the Tales of Phantasia OVA did well enough because they announced the Tales of Symphonia OVA (http://www.animate.tv/nf/detail.php?id=0000000693) series is in the works to be released maybe in 2007. Production will be handled by Geneon Entertainment and Frontier Works Inc.

CD Japan just listed this here (http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/detailview.html?KEY=SVDB-114). I've heard a few people have wanted this on DVD here and there in the forums so should make them happy. Unless they need subs that is, seeing as this'll probably never get a proper uncut/sub release in R1 land.
