View Full Version : Eyeshield 7
It says "some scenes have been modified from the original Japanese version." I'm assuming this is regarding the depiction of the Black Panther character, even though it's hard to tell what they didn't cut out with that guy. I wouldn't call how he's portrayed as racist or insensitive, maybe a little ignorant, but probably better than I would have expected. (Though the Aryans(I mean Caucasians) might be considered more offensive to some.)
Oh, I see. When Hiruma and the American coach are arguing in Engrish over their cock sizes, the curse words got covered up. Though you can sort of guess what they're saying which makes you wonder why they covered it at all. Lame.

Damn! I thinking of starting this manga up but I've made a vow to not support any manga that has edits in it. Oh well.

We don't know that's edited. We just have one person's guess with no comparison to the original. Waiting until there's actually a comparison done.

As has been said multiple times in this forum, that statement is in EVERY release from VIZ where they've had to retouch to the panels for SFX or other translated text. It does not mean that any edits were done.
However, I do need to find a copy of the original to see how the cock battle conversation was handled. It's odd that the words are covered up, and then in the next panel Sena asks "What's Johnson and Dick mean?" without any covering.
But anyway, I'm really surprised what Viz let the writers get away with on Black Panther. He's basically treated like an indentured servant. I don't think a black reader of the series would appreciate the kind of abuse he takes from his fellow white players. But I've known of a number of black DBZ fans, despite the Popo character, so who knows...?

What does Viz have to do with this? The original dialogue is like that too so.
And its kind of the point to make the american coach come over like a racist pig. There are people like that too, so editing the character is just covering up the truth, which is imo even worse.
I know the white guy's supposed to be racist. But the black guy's a little bit too ghetto at times, if you catch my drift.

I must say if it truly a edit made by Shonen Jump America its perhaps one of the best edits because I think it really adds the humor on the whole argument between Hiruma and the American coach.
Edit: Well I found a scanalation of this particular chapter in question and they show the same censoring so i'm going to assume its in the original.

You assume correctly.

So in fact no edits have been found.
Just a mis-interpretation of the boilerplate which has been pointed out many times before.
Locking.
