An old anime about soccer

My husband is looking for an anime that he saw on TV growing up in Panama in the early 90s. It was about soccer and the title was something like "super champions" or "champions", but this was the title they gave it, which I find rarely are anything like the real title. He said it was longish...like 50 episodes. ANyone have any ideas of what this title might be? I'd love to try and get a copy of it to surprise him for his birthday.

Just out of curiousity, is there anyone here in the AoD forums who has watched Aoki Densetsu Shoot!, in part or whole, other than myself and <font color="RoyalBlue">Jarred</font> as both of us bought the R2J DVD boxsets which came out last year.
