Currently serialized in Sunday GX, a shounen/seinen manga anthology from Shogakukan, Binbou Shimai Monogatari (http://www.accessup.org/ani_imge/7_BINBOU_20SHIMAI_20MONOGATARI_60manga.html) by Kazuto Izumi will be made into a television animated series, (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/article.php?id=8579) which will be telecasted on TV Asahi.

From what very little I have gathered, Binbou Shimai Monogatari centers on two sisters - Kyou (age 15) and Asu (age 9) - whose mother died from an illness and whose father, heavily in debt, mysteriously disappeared.

In addition, the Binbou Shimai Monogatari drama CD (http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/detailview.html?KEY=FCCC-53) will be released before the debut of the animated series on television.

While wholesale changes in the cast have occurred in other drama CD to anime conversions, such as Rozen Maiden and ARIA, a number of Japanese fans believe that no similar wholesale changes in the cast will occur for Binbou Shimai Monogatari because it is a Toei Animation production.

According to at least one poster on 2ch, (http://www.2ch.net/) Toei appears to favor Tanaka Rie, who has been cast in prominent roles on Toei Animation titles like Kujou Hikari (Shiny Luminous) on Futari wa Pretty Cure Max Heart, Takane Kiku on Ring ni Kakero 1 and Shimuka/Simca on Air Gear.

We'll see.

The Toei Animation official website for Binbou Shimai Monogatari (http://www.toei-anim.co.jp/tv/binboushimai/) (Story of Poor Sisters) has opened.

The illustration by manga creator Kazuto Izumi of the Yamada sisters - with 9-year-old Asu on the left and 15-year-old Kyou on the right - which currently appears on the home page of the official website also appears on one of the pages of the booklet for the Binbou Shimai Monogatari drama CD (http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/detailview.html?KEY=FCCC-53) - specifically, on the page which lists the cast and the staff.

A number of illustrations by Kazuto Izumi grace the booklet, the covers, and the CD. The first press bonus extra is an illustrated postcard.

if you read the story description... just push the girls ages to 16(18 in the sub/dub) and it sounds a lot of like the premise for a hentai /images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Why 16? there has been plenty of non hentai anime where girls bellow 16 have had sex.

Not sure what can be spoiled about this show, but holy craaaaap that was cute. Very cute. Massively cute. Ludicrously cute! Asu being voiced by Chiyo's va just makes it all the cuter.

It's so cute it's almost disturbing. Er, in a good way! /images/graemlins/sweat000.gif Oh, and so melodramatic! Again, in a good way. I can just tell this is going to be one of those shows where people say "nothing happens", and they'll be right, but it also won't matter a damn bit.

Because it's just two poor sisters, living alone, trying to live out their lives together... CUTELY!

And honestly, that's good enough for me.

I can't be 100% sure after only one episode, but either way that depends entirely on whether or not that comparison is meant positively or negatively =P This show is awesomeness so far... but I need more~

Then definitely check this one out. It's just as cute if not cuter, and... actually, while I didn't hate Kokoro either per se, I don't want to compare the two too much and wind up scaring people off /images/graemlins/sweat000.gif Besides, after only one episode I don't actually know much of anything about this show anyway.

Yeah and episode 2 was just as sweet. I gotta agree Asu's voice reminding us of Chiyo-chan is definitly a plus hehe.

As cute as it is, I have to wonder if her VA just doesn't have a lot of range. Every time she's in a series she sounds exactly like Chiyo... but I don't know if that's a failure in her range or just an indication of the monumental gravity Choyo has on fandom's consciousness /images/graemlins/sweat000.gif

I guess I don't have too much more to add, but I want to get at least some discussion going... There are a few people around here that this show seems like it should really appeal to, what with it being so wholesome and slice of life and cute and utterly devoid of fanservice and all. People normally complain that we never get shows like that, so, well, here one is! Watch!

I guess the main thing I wanted to say is... this is the type of show that's best when it DOESN'T have a real plot. Any sort of major conflict in their lives would seem sort of forced, I think. I also just noticed that it's only 10 episodes. Sheesh, would another 2-3 have been so hard? /images/graemlins/sweat000.gif But that's OK I guess, this show doesn't really need to be long or anything. On the other hand, because of its episodic nature, there's nothing really stopping it from going longer... Ah whatever =P

I also love how over the top it can be at times =P The way Kyo oozes hearts everytime she's around Asu is great, and even better was rich girl's reaction to the scene when she was in their apartment. Everything about it is melodramatic in this really laid back and innocent way (if that makes sense), and I just quite enjoy the atmosphere.

Anyway, more people need to be watching this.

I love this show. It can be really cheesy at times, but it's cute and the sisters' love is genuine. I agree, more people should be watching.

Completely agree here.

I was wondering if others had felt a similarity between this show and Bincho-tan? Good-hearted main characters living in miserable conditions but making the most of it despite the adversity.

Of course, this anime is emphasizing less the cute aspect and has more depth but sometimes the money/condition issues just remind me of Bin.

As far as being only 10 episodes long, I think it'll be ok. I mean, it can still be a great story with such a short run. I loved REC and it was even shorter (9x12 min). Same for Shinigami no ballad (6x23 min). And based on the setup, they could easily have an open-ended conclusion if it turns out to be popular.
