I'm curious about the mecha anime series, Taiyou no Kiba Dougram (http://www.sunrise-inc.co.jp/datacard/card0010.htm) (太陽の牙ダグラ*) (Fang of the Sun Dougram), from 1981~1983. Total of 75 episodes.

The R2J DVDs were released in 2003 and all 15 DVD volumes are still available for sale at Amazon Japan (link to DVD Volume 1 (http://www.amazon.co.jp/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00008OK2X/)). Would appreciate if anyone here who has seen the show give the lowdown on it.

There's also the movie which I understand summarises the series and it's also still available on DVD (link (http://www.amazon.co.jp/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0000A5B3O/)). Would the movie be a better way to watch this series rather than going through all 75 episodes?

*Awaits knowledgeable mecha anime fans and <font color="DarkSlateGray">METAL</font>(Mecha Enthusiasts' Talk) members responses*

I haven't have the pleasure of watching Fang of the Sun Dougram (wikipedia article here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fang_of_the_Sun_Dougram)) /images/graemlins/cry00000.gif , but it has a good pedigree as it was directed by Ryosuke Takahashi(Votoms, Gasaraki, Blue Gender) and was a precursor to many of the story conventions of VOTOMS

Is this show so obscure outside of Japan? I was hoping someone here would have watched the whole series and be able to provide a short review about the story and characters.

Well, I could say that in some circles the mecha is better known than the series in the US because in early editions of the Battletech RPG the mecha in the game were represented by mecha from Dougram, Macross and Crusher Joe. After some legal proceedings the mechs were redesigned or abandoned by FASA in later printings of the game sourcebooks.

Here's the Battletech/Anime mech list (http://brianscache.com/unseen/) and a slightly looney version of what happened here (http://www.angelfire.com/scifi/weirdozone/wargames/battletech/mystery.html)

My apologies on performing necromancy on an "ancient" thread but Amazon Japan homed in on me with an e-mail notice on the Taiyou no Kiba Dougram DVD-Box 25th Anniversary (http://www.amazon.co.jp/gp/product/B000I2JQ2I) recently. (Amazon Japan has been amazingly spot-on in suggesting anime DVDs to me - my poor credit card /images/graemlins/cry00000.gif /images/graemlins/sweat000.gif)

Help required on providing more info on this show.
