I thought this might be a fun little searching game: every once in a while, we get a "what SF or fantasy book would make a good anime?" thread. Well, there is a way to get a peek at how such a thing might look - namely, the covers of the Japanese editions of those novels.

Here's a few to get us started:

The Belgariad, volume 1, by David Eddings (http://images-jp.amazon.com/images/P/4150203806.09.LZZZZZZZ.jpg)

The Puppet Masters, by Robert A. Heinlein (http://images-jp.amazon.com/images/P/4150115419.01.LZZZZZZZ.jpg)

Snow Crash, part I, by Neal Stephenson (http://images-jp.amazon.com/images/P/4150113513.09.LZZZZZZZ.jpg)

Snow Crash, part II, by Neal Stephenson (http://images-jp.amazon.com/images/P/4150113521.09.LZZZZZZZ.jpg)

Ethan of Athos, by Lois McMaster Bujold (http://images-jp.amazon.com/images/P/4488698115.09.LZZZZZZZ.jpg)

Trading in Danger, by Elizabeth Moon (http://images-jp.amazon.com/images/P/4150115281.01.LZZZZZZZ.jpg)

Can you find your favorites? Not everything gets manga-fied covers, but quite a lot seem to.

Not from Amazon, but I managed to find these, illustrated by Shotaro Ishinomori, no less:

As I recall, one piece of American F&SF was made into anime: E.E. "Doc" Smith's Lensman, and look what happened to it. (Not that you'll find it on Amazon, but I figured it was worth mentioning.)

And two others, Earthsea and Mutineer's Moon, are currently being made--the first as a movie by Ghibli, and the second as a series produced by ADV. Other notable adaptations include the upcoming Highlander and Witchblade animations.

While I don't know much about the Highlander, Witchblade stars all new characters and not the main characters from Top Cow's series. So no anime Sara. /images/graemlins/cry00000.gif

Now that's just awesome!

Here are some from George R.R. Martin's "Song of Ice and Fire".

A Game of Thrones, part I (http://images-jp.amazon.com/images/P/415208457X.09.LZZZZZZZ.jpg) (I guess that's supposed to be Jon)

(part II omitted due to not-work-safe-ness, though if you remember the scene where Dany came out of the fire...)

A Clash of Kings, part I (http://images-jp.amazon.com/images/P/4152085975.09.LZZZZZZZ.jpg) (Arya, maybe...?)

A Clash of Kings, part II (http://images-jp.amazon.com/images/P/4152085983.09.LZZZZZZZ.jpg) (not sure who this is...)
