Ignoring all else, which GiTS:Innocence release - any region - has the best subtitles & best subtitle translation?
Is Motoko in it at all? Cover description makes it sound like there is none of her. (Also the lovedoll cyborg sounds similar to the 1st A D Police OVA story.)

I have both the R1 and R2:UK editions of the movie, and the R2 version is infinitely superior to the R1. I dunno how the Australian release compares to the UK one, but it'd have trouble topping it. There are a couple issues with the subtitles in the UK version (the name of Locus Solus changing throughout the run), but the inclusion of the dub is the best "extra" you could ask for.
And about Motoko, like Pupper Master said, Motoko doesn't really make any true "in the flesh" appearances other than when she's inhabiting the body of one of the love dolls near the end, but her influence can be seen and felt throughout the movie, helping Batou along, if you look hard enough. I do miss her though. /images/graemlins/cry00000.gif

How could one tell that one is getting the R2:UK edition -- or is it just the only one that would show up if I ordered from Amazon.UK?
And on a related note, if I ordered the R1 from an online retailer, has enough time passed so that I could be certain of getting the one with the real subs, not the "dubtitles" that appeared when it first came out? What's up with that, these days?

It's listed as Region 2 PAL (http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000BY9ALU/qid=1144552935/sr=1-1/ref=sr_1_11_1/202-2021300-5181416). (AoD Referrer Link) The region 1 version is obviously not Region 2. And the Region 2 (Japan) version will be NTSC as opposed to PAL. So clearly this is the R2UK edition. Naturally, if you live in an NTSC area (North America, Japan) then you will need specific equipment to make the disc work in your home theatre.
Amazon.co.uk also separately lists the Region 1 US release (http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0006A9FMI/qid=1144553349/sr=1-5/ref=sr_1_11_5/202-2021300-5181416).

There are no guarantees about this ever being true. It will always be a gamble. By the way, the original subs were written as subtitles for the hearing impaired as opposed to any sort of dubtitles.
