I'm creating this thread to see if there would be any interest if I were to create a new anime based game. I'll list some ideas in this thread and see how people respond to them before I finalize anything.

Overview-The idea of the game is to create a new anime series by taking characters from existing shows and giving them new roles in this one. Each round has a different theme, "Main Character", "Love Interest", "Romantic Rival", "Comic Relief", etc. The picking is the same as the anime draft, but when it gets to voting you vote for the person who you'd most like to see play that role in the show. When voting ends and every character has an assigned role we'll try to script an episode of the series (just for fun) using all the winning characters.

Signups-My idea for this, since I want this game to be based more on creativity would be everyone that wants to participate comes up with a name for the anime we are going to create, instead of picking individual characters like in the draft. The names with the most votes get in the game, and the top name is the name we'll use for the anime. This is all based on the assumption that over 20 people will sign up. Under 20 interested participants and everyone will make it into the game, but we will still have the voting round to determine a name and picking order.

Picking-We will be doing the old 1-20 picking then start over at 1, instead of snaking order. I just really didn't like snaking. We will keep the 24 hour picking window from the draft.

PMs-PMs as votes will not be accepted, it will be poll votes only. If you'd like to do like the draft and keep the initial name submiting anonymous, then we could discuss perhaps only submitting the names by PM.

Scoring-This will work like the draft system, with first place getting 20 points (dependant on number of competitors) plus 5 if no tie, and last getting 1 point. Also, if your name is chosen as the name we will use for the show, then you will recieve a bonus 10 points at the end.

Voting-Solely by Polls as mentioned above. I also think we should keep the one week voting window from the draft.

If anyone has any question/suggestions post them here.

The thread is sinking ya know.. /images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Oh well, as mentioned I'll play. /images/graemlins/relief1.gif Now if I could only get some people in the manga forum play a game or something it's always kind of dead in there.

This sounds like a fun game that I'd enjoy playing. The one bit that confuses me though is the bit towards the end where...

For one thing, the "we" in that sentence seems to imply co-operation between all players (who have just gotten though competing with each other), and for another, I think writing an actual script would be hard work. Maybe once the title had been chosen and the roles filled, there would be a round where each player submits (posts) a series outline of a pre-determined length, and people could then vote on which they'd most want to watch.

I think this could easily be a more interesting game than the Anime Draft, albeit a more complicated one. Judging from the Draft, though, the problem will be less in getting people to play, and more in getting people to vote. You might also make sure (though I'm not sure how) that there would be enough non-players, who still wanted to pay attention to the game.

The series outline idea seems cool, maybe we'll do that instead. Although I remember some people had cute little stories everytime they drafted a character in the draft, and some people just gave the character's name and the series name. Hopefully we'll be able to drag outlines out of enough people to make a good last round.

Hmm, yeah that could be difficult, although we always managed to get some people to pay attention to the draft even if they weren't in it. Anyone have any suggestions as to how to hold people's attention?

The more I think about it the more I like Scribble's idea. It does make a couple of things a tad more complicated though, it'd be difficult if someone wanted to make the series a romance to find somewhere to put the role of "Ultimate Evil" or something like that. Maybe we should assign a theme to the outline, like "Romance" or "Comedy" or something? That way we can decide what roles to fill based on what type of series it will be. Also have a few free role rounds where you can use the character in any position you like, if Naruto wins a round you could make him a friend of the main character, or maybe as a minion of the villain(providing we have one).

Also, I think we should have the same, if not stricter rules as the draft as to the limit on number of characters per series. It wouldn't be alot of fun to create a show when all you've got to use is the cast of Azumanga Daioh.

This is all provided we get enough interest to actually do this.

I would just allow each player to draft ten characters, but give them the roles that they need to fill before the draft (something like 9 mandatory roles plus 1 optional role from an assigned group of roles not included in the mandatory 9 roles to fill). After the characters have been drafted, the players then assign each of their characters an assigned role in the story as they see fit.

Unlike the Anime Draft, I think you can afford to be a bit less restrictive than the Anime Draft when it comes to this. I would allow each player to have one series that they may choose two characters from, but they must have characters from at least nine different series. Also, if someone has drafted two characters from the same series, then anyone else who has already drafted a character from that series may not draft a second character from that series. For the number of characters per series limit, I would keep it at five, or maybe loosen that one up a bit to seven or eight. So you could possibly have players drafting couples for their team, but their team could only have one canon couple, provided that person is available when they draft them.

Interesting game, but I might want to reduce the rounds down to 7 or 5 rounds instead of 10. At least for the first year make the show a little smaller and more focused.

I say the players can only chose one character per show and a one character per show limit. I mean then you know you will be getting a fresh character from a different show in all the roles. Even if you reduce it down to three characters per show if it was like the moe tourney or anime draft you would end up with three characters from the same show.
