For .hack fans, this is one long-awaited title that we wouldn't even have expected!! But it's finally here! The latest chapter in the .hack universe, <font color="purple">.hack/</font><font color="red">/Roots</font>!

Finally got around to watching this tonight.

<font color="purple">(.hack//Roots)</font> <font color="red">Episode 01: "Welcome to The World"</font>

A great way to start a show is with an awesome opening song with some neat opening animation (as Bee Train-ish as it was, but I'm a Bee Train whore, so sue me). Gotta' love FictionJunction YUUKA.

The animation looks great so far, and the story is intriguing. Haseo's just started playing "The World" that very day and already he has experienced his first death at the hands of a Player Killer.

Ovan and Haseo are characters fans will reconize, if they have been keeping up with the .hack//G.U. trailers.

Ovan's got a guild started up, "Twilight Birgade." Now that probably has nothing to do with the "Twilight" events of the past, now does it? /images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I like how Shino is being voiced by the same seiyuu who did Subaru in .hack//SIGN. It makes me wonder if they'll use the original .hack English cast for roles such as this (if any in the future).

I thought it was hilarious how <span style='color:#dddddd;background:#dddddd'>two guys were playing as female characters to fool other males so they could PK them and steal their treasure.</span>

The music, done by Ali Project was actually pretty soothing and worked well. I was wondering if they would do insert song (like in Avenger) and it seems like they did. The ending theme song sounds WAY too much like BOTH the Avenger opening and endings spliced together with new lyrics...

Well, it appears that show will definitely lead into the .hack//G.U. games. I suppose it will mainly be the story of how Haseo will become the legendary Player Killer Killer (PKK), The Terror of Death.

Spoilers? Probably Not... but just in case...
<span style='color:#dddddd;background:#dddddd'>I'm guessing Haseo will grow to like Shino, a lot. He'll probably snap once she decides that The World can't be saved from the Player Killers, and leaves the game.

Which will probably bring in Atoli, a character who appears to chase Haseo around. She has the same character model as Shino, save some color choices, which probably reminds Haseo of her.</span>

I watched the episode too.

Even though I am a big fan of Kajiura songs, I was rather disapointed by the OP, I don't know it feel to me like it was lacking "something". I prefer the ED.

About the show.

The animation is ok, maybe it's me but it seem the quality is a little lower than Sign.

About Ali Project music, much better than the avenger music, but still far from Kajiura level. But at least this time he music is not as "intrusive" as it was in sign. You can actually "hear" the dialogue /images/graemlins/sdsmiley.gif

A little disapointed there was no Aura cameo /images/graemlins/sad.gif (not even in the OP/ED sequences) I hope she wasn't "deleted" during the World reset.

About the main character, I still fail to understand how you can be so frightened of being killed in a MMORPG, especialy when you are a new player who don't realy risk any experience penality (If there is any in the game) and when you don't risk of falling into coma.

<span style='color:#dddddd;background:#dddddd'>I wonder how many episodes we will have to wait before we see Haseo transformation sequence into multi-weapon mode, and I hope it's not too cheasy (It looked prety cheasy in the ED)</span>

From .hack//SIGN's very own, BT:
"Two hours of my hard work, down the drain" (after being PKed by Sora)

You can only save your data in the Root Towns.

I figured that was him when he transforms into <span style='color:#dddddd;background:#dddddd'>The Terror of Death, itself. Skeith.</span>

Oh, I don't know. From what I gathered from rewatching a G.U. trailer:

Spoilers??
<span style='color:#dddddd;background:#dddddd'>Haseo has a flashback to a character that resembles Shino, probably NOT Atoli, saying how she is starting to dislike The World, which implies she would somehow leave the game. Don't know about the Data Drain, but I suppose it would make Haseo's vengeful-ness for Tri-Edge in the trailer to make sense!!</span>

I know, but there is a difference between "not wanting to die", and "being frigtened to the level of nearly peeing on yourself" /images/graemlins/wink.gif

I always got the feeling that "The World" is a much more advanced VR game. Unlike anything we've ever seen. I was always under the impression that the players can feel what is happening in the game to a certain extent. This would make dying quite displeasing, mabey even scary.

Man, I had no idea this franchise was so popular. It still infuriates me how anybody can enjoy watching a bunch of "cosplayers" walking around doing nothing (for the most part) but talk. The concept is interesting, but certain character personalities still retain that BEE TRAIN mentaility.

Well... we know from .hacksign, the game is capable of that, but that fact is hidden from the company that maintained the game. The company knows that people are getting injured/ill from playing (caused by monsters that should not exist), but as I say, they know nothing about how any of it works.

Technically, it is possible to send signals to the brain via the optic nerves of your eyes, but this is generally dangerous. Last time that happened was the unfortunate "pokemon seizure incident".

The game company just wants to make money. They will never admit that there are CRAZY things that are happening in the AI core of their game, and that they have absolutely no control over it.

That's how a lot of MMORPGs go. /images/graemlins/tongue.gif People wander around as a character, level up, run some dungeons, do little side quests/games, and talk.

Though I admit that more battles would liven things up a bit.

.hack is a great brand... especially for me since i love rpgs since the pc days of bards tale and might and magic and dungeons and dragons to console games like phantasy star to final fantasy to the current mmo games via the internet.

most of those games is talk... and story. with alot of tedious leveling up and running back and forth. heck even in the current mmo games its like that.

hack is definately a character driven story, action is there to move the story forward... the story isnt to drive the action forward.

cant say i loved twilight bracelet anime... but i do love sign. the ps2 games were great, in how they showed different parts of the story mixed in with the anime ova features... cant say it was a great series of games thou since they used the same engine in all 4 parts.

I dont know where root falls into the hack universe... seems like its been ages since the anime/game and years since shougo and rena was in the twilight manga.

.hack is definatly a "story". There shouldn't be a lot of action, I actually prefer it this way. And I agree about the MMO's, I play WoW and am quite an experienced player, and I do more running around, questing and conversing with my guild mates than actually fighting. Normally, once you get to the endgame it's more about fighting only when you have too to get to the next part of the story.

Adapt Rogue = Multi Weapon (Class Name)

Ok from the anime I thought Haeso got this Terror of Death form/character image due to the Forest Event.

Yet it seems that in the game... any Adapt Rogue can get that form once they learn the 3rd skill to use Scythes?

If thats the case... why are people so surprised when Haeso was in that form if any Adapt Rogue can get that form?

Or is that form for Adapt Rogues super hard to get and super rare and Haeso was the 1st to get it? Seems weird to me being a MMO player myself, unless its an artifact weapon/item most items are on several folks.

even in the .hack world... players cant feel anything that happens in the game world... only exception to that rule was Tsukasa who was stuck in the game... he could feel the environment he was in and I would guess pain as well.

They could hear and see everything given the 3D gear they used... and given that some folks in that time are online junkies that world they are in is real to em.

According to the game, all Adept Rogue forms are kind of a pain to get. The only way to get the forms are to enter the special form events. And those events aren't held all the time and are only for a limited time. Also... (just Roots spoilers- I've only played the first GU game, so there's some speculation here.)

Haseo skipped form 2 completely to get to form 3. The people who were most surprised I think were the people who already knew or "sort of" knew of Haseo.
Also, another reason people could of been surprised is probably because there weren't any "form events" at that particular time. But that's just speculation on my part.
