View Full Version : Which animes have natural disasters in them?

Are there any animes that have natural disasters like volcanoes erupting, tsunamis/tidal waves, floods, earthquakes etc.
I can only think of the missing R1 Sailor Moon R episode (#67), which was about a volcanic island.

There's a movie called The Day the Earth Moved, which is about the impact of an earthquake on a town. It's not particularly graphic or exciting, but it's very uncomfortable to watch. All of the characters fall into either the "average person who knows what to do in this situation" or the "understandably ignorant" type, which means it's pretty much a "man survives disaster" movie with little drama and no vice.

There's a pretty major earthquake in Saikano, on top of all the other stuff the characters have to deal with.
Heh. Actually, the disasters in anime usually seem to be man-made....
Yomigaeru Sora - [Rescue Wings]
About a JDF air rescue helicopter pilot. The first few episodes deal with an earth quake.
You're Under Arrest! Episode 2 dealt with an oncoming typhoon.
Sakura Wars TV, I believe Episode 11 also dealt with a typhoon. Episode 12 was shook up by an earthquake as well.

Doomed Megalopolis and episode 2 of Urotsukidoji both touched upon the Great Kanto Earthquake of 1923 (although they both had different causes for it that weren't natural).

Now and Then, Here and There.
DragonBall Z/GT - Can we even consider it at that?

World of Narue has a Tsunami in it. As does Kurogane Communications.
R.O.D. TV has an earthquake that sinks Hong Kong.
Orphen has an exploding volcano in it. As does Kino's Journey.
Arguable, the Blue in Blue Gender are a natural disaster.
Stellvia is all about dealing with the effects and after effects of a nearby supernova.
Hand Maid May has a typhoon in it.
Arguably Taeko from Ai Yori Aoshi is a natural disaster.
Thats about all I remember off hand besides those already listed. I'm sure there are more though. Most disasters in anime are man made though in one way or another. I suppose even R.O.D.'s earthquake could be considered man made really.

I thought Kino's Journey had something it was in the last episode but I don't remember the cause. May have been a volcano? *Not much of a spoiler just being safe* Hopefully someone else will know what it is because I haven't watched it in ages.
