View Full Version : How many do you have and how do you organize?

I don't think we've done a total count poll in awhile, so how many volumes of manga do you own? How many series are represented?

And just to add an extra element, how do your organize it all? Do you put all your manga together or sort it into genres or by some other system?

For myself, I have 223 volumes which is comprised of about 42 series + one shots. I have mine broken into three groups: in progress stuff, completed series, and yaoi/shonen-ai, and alphabetized from there.

Well, my 'to sort' secion has over 300 volumes. And that's from about 4 months of buying. And with the number of one-shot yaoi manga that I have, I think it's safe to say I have over 300 series represented also.

Wow, the number shocked me when I added it all up. I have about 645 manga representing 118 series and one-shots. That doesn't include whatever my bro took (which I think is only GTO and Love Hina) and the stuff I'm getting rid of.

Domestic releases are on one bookshelf and imports are on the other. They're arranged by publisher, then magazine, then author, then chronologically by title.

I have well over 2500 volumes of manga, and I keep them organized by author's last name in kana alphabetical order, because otherwise I would never remember it.

177 volumes across 31 series. I don't have any order really other than the order they were bought in with all volumes in a certain series beside each other.

I've got about 300 books split up into 91 series, plus about 35-ish collections of one-shots. I have my books organized first by size, then by publisher, then alphabetically by the author's name.

Yea, I'm about the same. I try to keep things organized by series, but it gets hard sometimes, because there are just too many books.

A wee bit over 300 volumes - it was 314 at the last count, about a month ago, and I've bought stuff since then. I'm not sure how many different series there are there, but probably less than 50.

As for organisation, other than making sure the stuff I regularly want to check stuff in or reread is easily accessable I don't have to room to have the luxury to have any kind of organisation - I just stick stuff where there is room for it /images/graemlins/sweat200.gif

I haven't counted it in a while, but I'd estimate we have 750+ volumes total.

All the manga is in our library. This room contains 7 floor-ceiling bookcases and each shelf is absolutely packed with manga and various merchandise (gashapon toys mostly). A couple of shelves are reserved for art books, JP game guides and hentai porn (including doujin). We used to store our anime there as well (~500 DVDs) but it no longer fits and has been moved to another room.

I have tried to sort the manga roughly into genre (Shonen, Shoujo etc) but with so many books and diminishing shelf space things get mixed up easily. I'm pretty good at segregating dropped series and single volumes, which always end up on bottom shelves /images/graemlins/happy.gif

Edit: Out of interest I started counting our manga yesterday. And stopped at 1100. There were several shelves left. Yikes!

The short answer is too many, and however I can fit them places. /images/graemlins/sweat000.gif

I have nearly 800 volumes (796 or something) -- gah why did you make me count?! -- representing well over 100 series (but didn't count those exactly) and at one time not too long ago I had them generally organized alphabetically by title on separate bookshelves by their status as: finished, in progress, yaoi, Japanese, size (for the older big or special titles), and The Backlog (bum bum bumm). To be honest though, that organization system has largely become obsolete as I long ago ran out of room on the respective shelves and have re-arranged in attempt to make more room (ultimately futile). There are piles of manga everywhere around my house right now... I need some new bookcases (or a bigger place...).

Naturally I didn't count my doujin collection, artbooks or various manga magazines (they take up several more shelves), or the books I've read and got rid of to make more room. /images/graemlins/sweat000.gif

I have over 1600 manga that takes up one wall of my room and also my closet. I have well over 200 series that I am collecting. There is no sort of order to my madness. I move things around as I add more because the series keep getting larger and I have to move them around to accomodate for that.

696 accordimg to my lixterx list. Probabably around 50 series, but that's just a guess. Add about 150 Japanese volumes to that, as well.

I organize them aphabetically by series name. The stuff I've only read once I put in at a right angle to the others to allow me to find them quickly for their 2nd reading (usually within a month or two of getting them... sometimes much sooner for Yotsuba and High School Girls /images/graemlins/happy.gif /images/graemlins/happy.gif ).

I currently have 969 volumes of 114 manga series that I have read or will be reading sometime in the future. The top three publishers of manga I have are; TokyoPop at 362(288 read/74 unread), Viz at 269(206/63) and Dark Horse at 130(112/18) the balance of my books, 208(178/30) are made up of ADV, DrMaster,ComicsOne Toypress, Del Rey and others. I have them in bookcases with TokyoPop have a double wide three shelf high case and Viz having single wide, four shelf high case to themselves. The Other are in the same type of case Viz has. I keep all of the series togeather on a shelf, and have separated the Shonen Jump and Korean Manhwa on their own shelve with their publishers.
I would have had higher number if you have back in December 2005, as I purged most of the series I stopped collecting or had not read in years.

How many do I have? A lot. A lot = I'm too lazy to count at the moment, but it's definitely over 100. I organize it by title, for the most part, though really large volumes (the magazine sized Nausicaa release) are at the very end with my Shojo Beat and Clamp no Kiseki issues.

I'm not the biggest manga collector. I have about 50 GNs covering 10 series. It's very easy to keep my collection organized.

Edit: I have 53 GNs.

364 volumes of manga in English; 23 oneshots, 80 series, 7 volumes about to be sold. Arranged alphabetically by the author's last name.

194 volumes of manga in Japanese; 55 oneshots, 52 series. Not enough space to arrange properly; grouped by author, color, publisher, size, smut etc.

69 volumes of manga in Finnish; 1 oneshot, 8 different series. Arranged by size first, author second.

Volumes of manga, total: 627
Series represented, total: 140 /images/graemlins/sweat000.gif (though this isn't accurate, I made the count by language and have some series in two or three languages)

Not included: anthologies, artbooks, doujinshi, magazines, manhwa, manhua, related novels, etc. etc.

At last count just over 1500 manga in 300-350 series. In German, French, English and Japanese. I try to roughly group them by language, but after that I just put each series together and shuffle them around to fit the shelves every other month to fit in the new ones. The japanese ones are in boxes, as they're least often needed (they are more of an assortment of oddities than a collection). A list is linked in the sig.

100-300 books with 50-100 series represented, although that might be erring on the conservative side, I didn't actually count. As for organization, it's just by series title, with really strangely sized manga (DMP, hardcover Shirahime-Syo, the few Japanese books I have) on the last shelf.
(look, I have even have a picture - http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v18/wakuchan/pictures/40106_books3.jpg (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v18/wakuchan/pictures/40106_books3.jpg)))

As of today I have 348 volumes which is comprised of 48 series. Shelf space is really tight right now so I just stack books wherever they fit. Since the majority of them come from Viz, I like to categorize them by their labels (Action, Shojo, Shonen Jump, Shojo Beat, Editor's Choice) to get a more appealing look.

I have around 300 and am collecting around 30 series. They're organized alphabetically on my cheap Target 5-shelf bookcases, with 2 added extra shelves, making them perfect for manga.

Now, if I added in my japanese manga (another 300 or so stored in boxes/drawers) or doujinshi (1000+ stored in boxes) it'd be a different story. However, I went English language only for this poll.

Last count over 1700. I keep the newer unfinished series on bookshelves, all the older/finished series I have boxed up in my closet. When I move I hope to keep everything out in the open in a library type room.

I have over 100 volumes of regular edition manga books, and somewhere around 200-300 of the monthly 35-40 page versions (I bought these before I wised up, too late IMO, so much wasted money).

I keep my regular editions packed away in shallow Rubber Maid containers.

I'm primarily an anime person (326 discs) so I only have 46 volumes of manga at present. Soon as there's a TRSI Viz manga sale, I'll be adding 10 or so. I'd have more if a number of the series I'm following or want to follow weren't coming out so slow/didn't get cancelled. Oh well.

11 series are represented, including one book each for Chrono Crusade, Beck and Ghost in the Shell.

They're just arranged alphabetically since I have so few.

Almost forgot their not organized at all the ones I just got are sealed in a box sitting in my room. A few others are still unopened sitting out here on a shelf and than theres 3 on top of some DVDs in a video case where I have some dvds and a few others in various artboxes with empty spaces.

I have about 96 manga, which does include my imports. Not a whole lot compared to some. They are placed (mixed together) in alphabetical order. Right now they only need one or two shelves on a shelving unit.

I have 200+ volumes, I haven't taken an inventory in awhile. I'm probably close to 230-240 by now. I have them double-stacked on two bookcases, grouped by series with ongoing purchases in the front for easy access. Old stuff (Mixxzine Sailormoons), the few titles I bought that I don't like, and doubles of stuff I bought in both japanese and english I have tossed in a box somewhere under the eaves with other packed up books.

I'm a bit concerned as even with the newer bookshelf I'm soon going to be out of room... again.

I more of an anime dvd fan than manga, but I do have more than I thought. 55 GN spread over 6 series. I end up collecting long series it seems. Right now there grouped by series in a old bookcase.

I've probably got a bit over 100 volumes. They're organised so that series are kept together and, where possible, different series by the same author are together too. Beyond that there's no particular organisation. I did at one point vaguely attempt to keep titles from the same imprint together (all the Ribon ones, all the Hana to Yume, etc) because that looks nicer, but I'm not really bothering with that now.

I arrange them by height and then by series.

I have 210 volumes over 63 series. I don't really have a lot of shelf space so I keep a lot of it in draws in no order at all. I keep series I'm working on in alphabetical order by title on a shelf and I have a special draw for odd shaped ones and series I only have one volume of.

I have over 1200 manga spread between two bookcases and seven plastic boxes. I've given up trying to categorise them (other than that the more mature titles tend to wind up in the boxes and the mainstream, family-friendly titles on the shelves). It doesn't matter, though, since I know exactly where everything is.

I have 182 manga. I organize them by title, and since I'm limited to two selves on the wall, complete series, or series with more than 10 volumes, are in plastic boxes under my bed.

I probably have around 150 volumes and around 20 to 25 series represented. I sell off series that I won't ever get around to reading again, so the collection never gets that big. I have them arranged by publisher, then by series (neither in alphabetical order), with my Japanese manga (shoujo-ai, assorted Yoshizumi Wataru works) at one end.

Anything on my bookshelf is already read; stuff I need to read is kept on my nightstand next to my bed (where I do the majority of my reading).

Last I counted I had about 120 gns, mostly finished series, so maybe about 20-30 different series. Basically they are all on a few shelves clumped together in series, maybe some shojo and shonen together. ^_^ Oh, 120~ not counting some volumes that I gave away...then there are some I'm getting rid of so it'll be closer to 110.

My collection is nearing 590, and I organize them on 3 shelves and 2 cointainers

One DVD shelf and two bookshelves hold all the manga I would read, a large plastic container holds series that I stopped collecting or stopped reading and the smaller one holds my import manga.

When it comes to percentages, my collection is 10% import releases and 90% domestic releases.

Edit: I don't include my massive anthology collection that consists of Ribon, Nakayoshi, and Shonen Jump. Plus Artbooks and Doujinshi also are not in my main number.
