I recently bought the Samurai X Director's Cut thin-pak containing Trust & Betrayal and Reflection. I had heard Trust & Betrayal was one of the best anime ever made, and I have to agree, having watched it. However, I've also heard Rurouni Kenshin is also one of the best of all time.
Having watched both Director's Cut movies, I've decided that I want to also own the Rurouni Kenshin series.
People who have seen other posts by me probably know that I'm a box art whore. I love having cool boxes containing wonderful series on my shelf, but I also do not necessarily have all the money in the world for this stuff.
So, my question is, would it be good for a person like me to get the cheaper Economy boxes if I can get all three for 150 at Deepdiscountdvd.com, or should I gradually save up to get each of the premium boxes? The premium boxes look attractive, however the Economy boxes, though a load cheaper (pretty much half price /images/graemlins/stunned0.gif ) look like they're bricks from the description I read on an Amazon user review.
What's my best bet?

Well, since the Economy sets are bricks, the Premium boxes look better, but the disks on them are contained on paper sleeves, which increases the chance of them getting scratched. If you don't mind that and you are willing to pay the extra money you can get the Premium boxes. I think that you won't be missing very much by getting the Economy Sets though.

Thanks for the reply, I think I'll go for the bricks this time. That helped a lot.

I like having boxes as well. I got the 3 premium boxsets and they are rather a disapointment. I like the idea of the bento design, but when you open them and realize the disks are being held by cheap paper cases, you feel cheated in the quality department. I strongly second the economy boxes and remember, the third box is a season that is all filler material. You can stop after the first two and immeaditely watch Reflections, since it leads into the true third arc that was never animated in any other manner.

I wouldn't even call them cheap paper sleeves. But rather cheap cardboard sleeves. And boy, do they ever scratch up your discs.
Nor is there anything you can do about it, since they're scratched right at the factory when being slipped into their sleeves!
It looks pretty, but what a dumb idea it really was. Wish I had waited a year and got the bricks instead! Plus it would have saved me a heck of a lot of money.

yeah, the sleeves are pretty bad, though it's not like the discs are as badly scratched compared to the ones in broken amaray cases. Luckily, at the time I purchased the premium sets, there was a nice sale at DDD. I can't remember the exact prices, though I know I got each box for about the same, probably less than what the new bricks cost.

Bricks it is, then. Mainly the problem with me is that when I geta new collection of DVD's, I get upset when I know I could have gotten a nicer set. According to you guys, the premium set aren't all that nice, so I'll be opting for the bricks this time around.

It's not like you couldn't put them in 2 disks thinpacks and put those in the Bento box /images/graemlins/happy.gif (That's what I did with mine /images/graemlins/wink.gif )

Even if you're a box whore, you really ought to get the econo sets. The bento boxes look nice, but they cost a lot more and as others have said, there were a number of isses with the paper sleeves scratching discs. And the econo sets save so much room.
