Just ordered the R3 box set 1 of School Rumble.
http://global.yesasia.com/en/prdTransfer.aspx/pid-1004116207/
May not be lovely R2J for the purists, but it has a Japanese audio track alongside the Korean one, and at that price it's a bit of a bargin IMO.

Does anyone know if the R2J singles (there is no R2J box set, afaik) have anything significant that this box set does not?

Made the mistake with R1 Azumanga Diaoh of buying the box set, then realising the singles had significant extras (liner notes, pins, booklet etc) and ended up buying the series again. Don't want to make the same mistake!

Hmm.. just the FP items, from what I could tell. For $80 USD, I'd jump on the gun for this one, especially since it comes with a space-saving tin case. But I'm happy with my R2s. /images/graemlins/happy.gif

Well, $80 USD for the first boxset and then $105 for the second one which is still a preorder.

Still, not bad for only $185 (which is about a normal price for a 7-8 disc compared in R1 release).

Cool /images/graemlins/happy.gif While I am the type to care about FP stuff, I'm a little too late for those anyway.
Even the two box sets combined work out a bit of a bargin, imo.

Thanks for the help!

Very tempting. Depends if a R1 license is announced - and by who, as to whether I go R3 for SR.

As a rider, is the R2J OVA disc worth getting?

I have never bought an R3 release before - will this have Korean text over the credits etc? That would be off-putting enoough to make me cancel tbh, as I prefer buying Japanese release purely because most American licencees (ADV etc) like to plaster English text over the credits etc.

Hmm. Seems I can find english subs for School Rumble. I'd love to know more about the overall quality of the R3 set and if there are any other stores than Yes Asia that carry the set(s).

My experience is that they leave the Kanji alone for the op/ed sequences.

Depends on where you look (and if you get lucky). I haven't looked for them since I got mine, but I was able to get all 9 season 1 FP's in really good condition for about $250 on Yahoo Auctions Japan last month.

Glad to hear it. Might look into R3 releases more in the future then, as there seems to be more R3 box sets than R2J ones.

Might have to check that out. That said, I really must remind myself that it was the bargin price that made me buy the box set in the first place. Suppose we all get carried away with this kind of stuff.

Only if you're a Yakumo or SR-fan... which most of us here, I presume. /images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I'm not sure witch ones are FP item but R2 comes with sturdy chip board slip case, couple of folded posters(which is pretty much useless imo, I'd rather have booklet or insert than a nicely folded poster orz) and couple of postcards for each volume.

I don't think R2 has any significant extras over R3 (unless you're diehard post card collector...) I’d say R3 is pretty good alternative to R2. You won't see any overlaid text or etc on R3, they usually leave everything as it is.

here's a link to pictures see for yourself.

Darn those R2J's are pretty damn spiffy after all. Probably pick them up after all in the future. Real soft touch for LE gear anyway.

Cheers for the pics, they help hugely! /images/graemlins/happy.gif

The R3s have English subtitles!? What is the translation accuracy & written English like?

No, the R3s do not have English subs /images/graemlins/wink.gif I did not in any way try to say that they do, I just said that I can find them in certain places and apply them (like I did with Bleach on R2) to the R3 release.

R2s are usually a bit too pricey, but the price on the R3 release seems nice and if a possible R1 release is far off I'd be willing to bother with authoring them subs onto the episodes.

Damn and blast the lack of subtitles, but I don't mind waiting for someone to licence it - the manga has been licenced of course so that's a good sign, not not always a guaranteed sign that it will be licenced.

And just after watching the raw of Season 2: ep 3 - SR goes Battle Royale style...cue a fanfic burning in my head...

I bought the set earlier in the year, and overall I'm quite satisfied with it. First off, the packing is a bit on the cheap side: the DVDs come in an art box, not a tin. Second, the cases themselves are just mini digipaks w/ the R2 cover art on them (think the R2 release, but w/ paper cases instead of plastic ones).

Anyway, I found the video quality to be good, though I think it was on average only in the 5-6Mbps range. As for the audio, it comes w/ both the original JPN track as well as a Korean dub (cool!). The video is left untouched, as all the signs and what not are soft-subbed in Korean (which can be disabled from the menu). Also, I *think* the audio on the JPN track was PCM; not sure about the Korean one. Finally, the box contains the first 12 episodes (first 4 volumes of the R2 release), and also includes the seiyuu interviews for their respective volumes.

Edit: Already have the second box set pre-ordered. /images/graemlins/catgirl0.gif

Thanks for the first hand feedback hub, cleared my mind /images/graemlins/happy.gif
I wouldn't mind if it was licenced tomorrow (in fact, please do!), as this seems top be a pretty spiffy set judging from the pics posted earlier. I don't mind buying the series again anyway.

Hopefully my final question, do you know if the 'School Rumble Forever' Music Video that featured on one of the R2J single DVD's (not sure which) is featured on any of these, or should I expect it in box set 2 (if at all)?

I don't recall seeing any music video's in the first box set, but then again I was really only looking for the seiyuu interviews. Still, I can check again later tonight and let you know. Oh, and I just received my shipping confirmation for the second box set! /images/graemlins/sdsmiley.gif
