As its happening where I live, & is a favourite time of year for the Japanese, what scenes can you remember around blossoming cherry trees?

There quite a bit in X TV as a result of the presence of the Sakuruzakamori. Blossoming trees also were featured in Rahxephon to symbolize the different colors of blood between the human and Mu.

In the His and her Circumstances episode where Arima takes a nap and is late for class. There are a few more in the anime, all very well done.
Sakura Wars, at Ueno Park instantly comes to mind. I wonder why though...
Sure wish I could go to a hanami party, but there aren't many cherry trees around here (mostly apples). As great as they are, they're a bitch to clean up.

Cardcaptor Sakura has tons of scenes involving Cherry Blossom. She is the main character, after all. /images/graemlins/sdsmiley.gif
Though in all seriousness, I do recall several scenes that have cherry blossom trees in the setting.
Clamp is freaking obsessed with Cherry Blossoms. /images/graemlins/sdsmiley.gif
Along with the swirling sakura from the opening of Sakura Wars, the recently aired Jigoku Shoujo has a lot of sakura in the later episodes featuring Enma Ai's past.

The first episode of Boys Be... where Kyoichi and Chiharu talk under a cherry blossom tree under the moonlight, the petals turn sorta blue.
In Maria-sama ga Miteru (2nd season) where Noriko sees Shimako standing under the cherry blossom tree.

There are, in my mind, two major scenes in the If I See You in My Dreams OVA that just totally make the story seem a tiny bit more lavish, and a lot more sweet, as the two leads stand under the falling blossoms, the wind whipping through Nagisa's hair.

My very favorite of them happens in the first or second episode, as Sakura skates backwards on the sidewalk, admiring a row of trees on either side of her.

Isn't there a scene late in Azumangah Daioh in which the teachers are invited to a cherry blossom viewing, and the event causes Nyamo to reflect on her future?

Ai Yori Aoshi is one series that will not let an episode go by without a cherry blossom.

There's also a key scene in the Tokyo Babylon OVA where Sakura is featured. I remember it has such an impact when I watched it on vcr, despite the fact that the picture was quite blurry... I would love to see a remake of TB rather than Tsubasa and Holic. /images/graemlins/noseblef.gif

That was the first scene that came to mind for me too /images/graemlins/catgirl0.gif. I think Cardcaptor Sakura as a whole has the best scenes involving cherry blossoms. Every time cherry blossoms are mentioned this is the series that always comes to mind first.

Actually, an interesting thing about that thing in Rah was that:
<span style='color:#dddddd;background:#dddddd'> I think that when Itsuki was commenting on Kunugi and implied him having a body with blue blood being burried under his "blue" cherry tree, I think he was talking about the fact that Kunugi had like... something in his past that he buried that had something to do with people of blue blood... you know, that thing
... well, or something like that... I mean, he didn't really have a blue tree, right?
I dunno </span>
Anyway, CCS for t3h win, I was really impressed at how well animated some of the cherry blossom sequences in the show were... they all looked individually animated I might add *probably not entirely, but you get the idea*
also, Tokyo Babylon anime FTW too (it has to be directed by Kawajiri and production on CLAMP anime needs to go back to Madhouse)

The last episode of Tenchi Universe has my favourite cherry blossom scene; especially with the music playing in the background.

Not specific scenes as such, but any of the cherry blossom scenes in D.C. ~Da Capo~ and D.C.S.S are wonderful.

Now wait a minute I can sort of forgive the first part of this Da Capo idea, but the second part is completely unforgivable. She may not be my favorite, but I'm still slightly fond of her. Although the one to really feel sorry for is Kotori. <span style='color:#dddddd;background:#dddddd'>Wow it took them only moments to throw her out of the lead spot in season 2.</span>

Heh /images/graemlins/sweat000.gif, well Cardcaptor Sakura is my very first subbed anime series on dvd so I find that specific scene as well as the rest of the first episode to be particularly memorable. I thought the music and the visuals of that scene just went together beautifully. It was a very pleasant and heart-warming moment /images/graemlins/catgirl0.gif.

Ooooh. nice catch. I really need to find the 5th disc of Rah so i can rewatch it at some point. Just got all three Japanese TV soundtracks off the AnimeGamers sale. $10 CDs ftw.
On subject, there's at least one cherry blossom viewing party in Honey & Clover. (Two IIRC, but I'm not sure.)
Yeah... pretty poetic... but to be honest, that's the thing that pissed me off about Izubuchi's direction in the end... it comes off as kinda overly snobby and rubs me the wrong way >_>
(this coming from someone who loved Oshii's INNOCENCE)
But arguably, yeah, there were a TON of moments like that in the series... don't even get me started on the constant theme of red and blue (which I might not even remember anymore... it's been a while)

Didn't Utena, both TV and the movie have several scenes with this? Oh wait, they didn't include trees though, so they might not count?
Urusei Yatsura has a few episodes with scenes of these, though I'll be damned if I can name the exact ones for you. /images/graemlins/sdsmiley.gif

All rose petals, I believe. I especially love that one scene in the movie, where Utena and Anthy have their first conversation, and a strong breeze just happens to whip by, making their hair flutter all prettily.

Here's another one - a conversation between Yuri and Kumi in the first episode of Alien 9, with the former reaching out to the latter for help, for the very first time. Kumi's answer rocks. /images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I love those scenes! Most memorable ones for me would be the Kare Kano ones, and, although not really cherry blossoms, but still the same type of scene, the Hades Chapter scenes. http://fuunoroad.free.fr/Hades_Hen4.html Look at the screens! But DON'T read the text below the,, as it'll be full of spoilers.

I was thinking of those scenes as well, they are truly some of the most emotionally charged ones in Saint Seiya! <span style='color:#dddddd;background:#dddddd'>Right next to Mime's, Camus's and Shura's death in the old series.</span>

There are countless cherry blossom scenes in anime (and other forms of Japanese entertainment).
Some memorable cherry blossom scenes, as mentioned before, appear in Honey & Clover (2005).
A recent example is the Binbou Shimai Monogatari Drama CD (2006), (http://forums.animesuki.com/showpost.php?p=513839&postcount=256) based on the shounen/seinen manga by Kazuto Izumi. It has been officially announced that Binbou Shimai Monogatari will be animated for television.

Yes, exactly right - Itsuki was induling in metaphorical subterfuge to hint to Ayato that Kunnugi's motives might not be as straightforward as it appears. In particular <span style='color:#dddddd;background:#dddddd'>Kunnugi has two excellent reasons for hating the Mu. The first being the death of his daughter at his hand , something they precipitated with their uncommunicative and uannounced city appearances over Sendai. And secondly the betrayal of Kuki giving the order in the first place only to turn out to have been a collaborator with the Mu and leaving Kunnugi to take the rap for that attack.</span>
Kunnugi has excellent reasons for absolutely detesting the Mu. Which is what Itsuki is hinting at.

Watching UY volume 28, episode 109. It has magical cherry trees shedding blossoms & Lum goes on a journey across parallel realities, with interesting variations on UY characters & the Earth.
