I've had horrible experiences with them, but that fact above may be interesting for some people. All of Samurai Champloo is available for example, and I'm sure some people will be happy to know CH now carries Geneon...

Thanks for the info, I've also found Hellsing and Appleseed but apart from that I couldn't find any other titles, maybe they'll add more a little later on.

Oh shit, I may have to rejoin CH now. Anyone know if they have a currently running deal that's as good as their previous one? What was it, 6 for $0.49 each, one for $9.95 and and then only two more to finish the deal, which actually netted me 4 for the price of 2 since it was a b1g1f deal /images/graemlins/sweat000.gif

I don't know if I could find enough discs, but Champloo *is* 7 by itself so...

Hopefully they'll add some more titles... can't even find six I want...

They seem to also carry at least some FUNimation and CPM titles. Note that the box set of Samurai Champloo (http://www.rightstuf.com/aod/pd12781) is due out on 4 July.

Edit: I also can not find any Geneon titles, other than Hellsing, Appleseed (regular edition only), and Samurai Champloo.

Well they do have Galaxy Railways v1-5, FMA v1-8, Burst Angel v1-6, Gunslinger Girl v1-3, Steamboy, GXP: Police Diaries v1-4 (the double disk ones), Spiral v1-6, Kiddy Grade v1-8, Blue Gender v1-8, Fruits Basket v1-4, and FF Advent Childern which I would use in completing my contact.

Of the other anime they have, the only ones I'm interested in and donthave are FMA and YYH. I've seen Fruits Basket and own GSG, Spiral and KG. YYH is getting some really cheap sets starting this summer apparently, and FMA is too long so I'm going to wait for boxsets. Buying myself FruBa is a potential sale, but again, seen it all already (and before anyone starts, it was on R1 DVD). If there is a promo like before, with 6+1 and then 2 to finish, 6 champloo + 1 champloo + 2 fruba + 2 more fruba (if a b1g1f deal again) might work, but again, I dunno if I feel the need to actually buy Fruits Basket... would I rewatch it? Dunno.

This is the basic introductory promo they always run, as far as I can tell. It comes to something like $8.84 a disc before shipping and handling. However, when Columbia House got some Funi in awhile ago and a bunch of us took advantage, there was a significantly better deal running that gave 6 @ $0.49 each + 1 @ $9.95 with a finishing requirement of only 2 thereafter. Again going by $19.95 a disc for the fulfillment discs, it came to roughly $5.87 a disc, before shipping and handling.

Additionally, they ran a buy one get one free deal that included free shipping soon after we all joined, so many of us finished out with 11 discs for the price of 9, and knocked the per disc cost down to $4.80 before the then significantly reduced shipping and handling fee.

So, I'm certainly willing to wait a bit to get closer to the latter price than the former, especially since it's not like I've seen Champloo already anyways, so no rush. I believe someone before had a thread on another forum somewhere that had all the latest codes explained and listed. DVDTalk, I guess.

The old deal is still there, but you have to put in a code to get to it. The forums at DVDTalk have the codes and details.

As far as some of the titles listed above, some of those can't be used for the initial 6. Otherwise, I would have enough to get started.

Just sign up and you have 2yrs to wait for them to offer free shipping on box sets (which they do quite often). I figure I'm going to buy stuff they carry anyways, so I might as well...

I jumped on Champloo quick. They tend to go OOS of popular titles relatively quickly. The Champloo box is irrelevant to me because it retails for $149. OUCH.

I've considered it, but I know that if I don't order within the first month or two I'm almost certain to forget about it and get stuck with one of their stupid Director's Choice discs. That and I'll get tired of scanning their anime inventory all the time for changes. Ah I dunno, we'll see.

Ah I didn't think C7L would still be active. Well, I went ahead and did it /images/graemlins/sweat000.gif All of Champloo for $12.49 or something =P Well, really about $40 when all is said and done. I can only assume they'll accept my application, seeing as how they've sent me at least half a dozen "we want you back!" emails and letters since last time. Of course those weren't for a coupon this good but... =P

I know you can just go online and easily turn each one down, but I mean I'd forget to do so eventually. Or is there a way to get them to stop evn asking you? I figure they wouldn't give that option since it's likely a major source of income for them.

Ack, you should have used the C7L code (which I used)! It comes out to like 40% or more less per disc than the one you initially posted. I got all of Champloo for $12.49 or so, and then I just need two more at $19.95+ to fulfill.

Thanks! I've got Champloo 2-7 in my cart, but I'm left debating over my 7th title at $9.99. I'd get Galaxy Railways vol. 5, but it's not available until I'm a member.

Any suggestions? It doesn't have to be anime. My DVDAficionado page is linked in my profile if anyone is really bored! I've been meaning to pick up Motorcycle Diaries... not sure, though.

edit: I let my fiance pick out a workout DVD, so that problem is solved.

Oh, well. I'll just cancel once the package arrives, and reapply after I receive my refund—I have plenty of time to play this game. ^_^ Which brings to mind the question—what in this case is the best way to cancel? Return the package unopenned and call customer service, or open the package and read the directions?

Given that I'm committed to five discs for my first account ( :-P~~~ I forgot to cancel before swapping the discs into nice new M-Lock cases), I am willing to wait quite a while for that. The second account, however, only has a commitment of one disc, so I will be cycling that one ASAP. I've got nearly fifty discs to buy, and my list is incomplete. ^_^ Which reminds me—I need to check DVD Talk's list of foreign films to find out what CH has.

No, they don't send notice if you're not accepted.

scribbles
05-12-2006, 04:49 AM
You won't get an email telling you that your enrollment order was rejected, but they usually send you a notice via snail mail informing you that you've been rejected. That notice tends to come a few weeks after you've applied and been rejected.

However, if your enrollment order is accepted, you will get an email within a week welcoming you to the club. If you haven't gotten an email from them in two weeks, then your enrollment was most likely rejected.

Applying online for the DVD club is usually a crapshoot. Applications seem to get rejected fairly regularly. I don't think anyone is quite sure why this happens. The success rate when enrolling via the phone seems to be a lot higher.

That's why I'm contacting them before signing up again. I emailed them last night, and received the standard form response saying they'll get back to me in a day or two.

Finally heard back from Columbia House. Apparently they lost my order information, surprise surprise. I'm wondering if I should try again...

I finally heard back as well, and part of the response said this:

Apparently my 2nd application wasn't accepted either. First time for everything.

My second application attempt was approved earlier in the week, but when I look at my order information, Champloo vols. 2-7 aren't listed yet, just my $9.99 DVD (some random workout DVD my fiance picked out). I'm wondering if they're backordered...

Gah, apparently Columbia House had one of their B1G1F deals last week, and I completely missed it. I could have just ordered FruBa 1-4 and finished out my committment, getting two of them free =(

Did anyone else take advantage of this (if so, you should have posted, damnit =P)? I mean, damnit, I go a few days without looking at my email for once, and I miss out on this >_> Blah, I had just checked the day before this came to my inbox.

I seem to get an email for a BOGO offer every other week now. And you can always check out DVD Talk's DVD Club forum for the latest codes. But CH doesn't seem to ever have free shipping with the BOGO offers, and their shipping can get expensive, so I've been waiting to fulfill my current account.

They had free shipping with a b1g1f last time I had a membership. I don't know if that's common or not, but I thougth it was.

Last time I fulfilled an account (uh, March?) shipping was free. But recently that hasn't been a part of their offers, and they also got rid of preferred shipping ($0.99 per DVD and $15 maximum) on fulfilled accounts. I'm spoiled by places that offer free (or super cheap) shipping so I find it really hard to pay for it now.

See DVD Talk's Better code thread (http://forum.dvdtalk.com/showthread.php?t=355622)—there's a B1G1F code on the last page, though since I do not currently have an account (I closed my first two, and am waiting for my applications to be accepted—though I hope not, since I made a couple of mistakes in my selections, and want to take advance of the code) I can't check its validity. Note that the six digit codes are more or less sequentional, so if 807748 does not work, try 807749, 807750, 807751, 807753, et cetera.

See also DVD Talk's DVD Bargains (http://forum.dvdtalk.com/forumdisplay.php?f=13) forum for more information.

Hmm I tried all the way from 748 to 801 and had no luck. Guess it's dead?

Nice, thanks. A shame it only counts the first order as being for commitment thuogh. I guess there's no point in getting all 4 then... I'll just get one at normal price and one free. Maybe I can place a second order doing the same thing... the normal+free+50%+50% way ends up being 4 discs for the price of 2 like a normal b1g1/b2g2/etc-f, but instead of being done I'd still have a disc to order. If I can reuse it though... we'll see, I might be done now. Granted, paying that shipping charge twice hurts a lot ($8 or something? Gah!) but in the end I'm still getting all of Champloo and FruBa for damn cheap.

Edit: Ouch, I underestimated shipping and forgot about tax. Getting two discs of FruBa (with one being free) costs $28.55. If I do that again for discs 3-4, it's another $28.55. Adding in the intro offer it comes to $6.36 a disc for 11 discs, all told. Granted, still amazing, but about $2 a disc more than last time. If it's going to keep going up like this, this will probably be the last time I go through the CH hassle, even though the prices are great. After all, all the purchases I've made at CH have been "extra", shows I didn't necessarily plan to get otherwise (except Spiral), so even at a fantastic price it's still unplanned expenditure.

Anyways, thanks for the code, I'll just get over the shipping and all and remind myself that it's $6.36 a disc and that I'm making out really well. I could try and wait for a better code but I assume there won't be one.

i could not find them for the longest time, they were not listed under anime.

this sounds funny but do an actor search and use the word animated .

Umm—why not a title search? That worked fine for me just now (http://dvd-movies.columbiahouse.com/qj4/searchResultsPage.do;jsessionid=beiZNCoS5lxb;jsess ionid=beiZNCoS5lxb?searchType=VIDEO_TITLE&sortType =RELEASE_DATE&searchTerms=Champloo&searchsubmit.x= 0&searchsubmit.y=0) (and in the past).
