2006 Anime Diva Open: Final Regional Quarterfinals!

Monkey Biz is proud to present the second day of the 2006 Anime Diva Open: Road To Tokyo.

In this thread the tourney moves to the four regional cities of Yokohama, Osaka, Fukuoka, and Sapporo. It’s the sweet sixteen and the true battles about to take place. With all the girls surviving tough battles to make it to the regional contest lets get this party started!

Note the 2006 Anime Diva Open is looking to crown the anime lady most epitomizes the essence of a diva. Whether it’s the classic idea of supreme female entertainer, strong independent willed woman or even an outlandish bold person.

The only characters that I know of are Faye Valentine (Cowboy Bebop), Ayeka Masaki Jurai (Tenchi Muyo!) and Sir Integra Wingates Hellsing (Hellsing). Faye does seem to be somewhat of diva in my book, but since I don't like her and her opponent appears to be strong diva material as well, I'll just abstain. I'm familiar with Ayeka whom I do like quite a bit, so she gets my vote over her opponent whom I don't know. Integra does not appear to have any diva-like qualities in the anime and overall, not much of a personality either, so I'll vote for her opponent whom I'm actually only slightly familiar with through a couple of trailers that I've seen.

So my two votes go to Ayeka Masaki Jurai (Tenchi Muyo!) and Lina Inverse (Slayers). All others I've abstained from as usual.

Agreed. I can understand possibly why Minako won, but it's not because she is probably seen as a diva - as whilst she has characteristics, she's simply from a more popular show and more people would recognise her...forgive me if I'm wrong but Sailor Moon vs. Princess Nine? As much as I hate to say it more people will have known about SM than P9, despite Izumi being a lot closer to the epitomy of a diva.

It does suck though because Minako is my least favourite of the scouts against my fave character from one of my favourite shows (and one of my favourite characters of all time) in Miss Himuro. She is a true icy diva.

My only hopes now are Mami-rin and Layla for a real diva to win this. Go Mami-rin, go Golden Pheonix

Not sure you can really blame this on a popular vote. The Diva Open is only getting lukewarm response with and avg of 24-30 votes. If the only the most popular characters were winning then Mint wouldn't have lost to Yuri or Miss Sakaki lose in the first round. I mean if it was really a popularity contest then I just don't think Layla would have made it out of the first round.

They could be but I'm going to finish out the Diva Open with as much fanfare as possible. I'm now working on semifinals and it will be up soon.

Also I looking at how I will be doing a boys contest. I'm debating if its going to be a tourney or draft like game. Either way I'm looking at making it a little different then past tournies and drafts.

Personally, I think "diva" is a tad more difficult to pin down than moe and that is part of the reason why I'm not voting in this tournament as much as the last one. And you really can't say for sure if the majority of the voters put much thought into their votes at all, or if they're voting seriously. I'm guilty of voting for characters that I like or am familiar with on occasion myself, but I'm not going to be totally ridiculous like some of the voters for the moe tournament. I won't ever forget the fact that Sugar almost lost to Motoko in that one /images/graemlins/depresse.gif.

Anyway, a "badass" tournament sounds pretty cool. I don't know too many of those kinds of characters, but I'm pretty sure most people won't have trouble defining that term.
