While sparse details are available, following up Friday's film series news, it's just been revealed that Tsugumi Ooba and Takeshi Obata's Death Note manga will be adapted to animation by Nippon Television Network in Japan. A video game is due there this winter and a tribute album will be released in June. No official timetable exists for the anime roll-out although a Fall 2006 (we're hearing October) release is likely.

I knew it was going to come out eventually but I didn't expect it so soon. This is so awesome! /images/graemlins/catgirl0.gif

I'm getting "This page cannot be found." Is it just me, or is ANS actually down? /images/graemlins/sad.gif

Is there really enough manga out to make a decent anime out of this? I have my doubts.
Bleach and Naruto are unwatchable at the moment, and they're gonna burn even faster through source material with Death Note. Hopefully, they're planning on a short series.

Well, the Death Note manga is officially over as of chapter 108, so it's not like they're going to add filler or anything.

It's enough for some episodes. There won't be enough material for something of DBZ length, but this will at least give enough material for 26 episodes. If this series is executed and eventually becomes licensed, Death Note may become the shounen anime series I ever buy.

Considering the manga will be ending in the next couple of months, IIRC, I don't think they'll have an issue with the anime catching up to it.

Ah cool, I didn't know that. I've only been keeping up with the Viz release. In that case, guess there's not much to worry about.

Would 26 episodes be enough though? I think (and I'd personally much prefer) 52 episodes would be needed. The manga isn't that long, but there are quite a few characters to introduce and so on.

Oh graet, another 500+ episode anime to bring out for an unfinished manga. I love Death Note and all, but WE DON'T NEED MORE SHONEN JUMP ANIMES!! One Piece and Naruto are enough.

Yeah but what's the likelihood of that happening? One Piece and Naruto enough? You can NEVER have enough SJ anime! /images/graemlins/catgirl0.gif

Except for the fact the Death Note manga will be ending very soon and I doubt they'll try to stretch it over that many episodes. I mean they didn't make the Black Cat series nearly that long. /images/graemlins/relief1.gif

Death Note still isn't something that can be dragged as much as action titles. It's full of dialogue but no action, so if they drag that, it becomes too boring.

Is it just me or I had the image of the voice of the "you silly rabbit..." Ahem...
Yeah, they could stretch, chop any way they wanted. I'm still pissed about you know what. Although I'm going go for the 52 idea because they will milk it for all its worth. I mean come on, a live movie, two of them, a game, a tribute alblum, tons of merchandise.... /images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I did not see that until I already posted. It ending is great news!! It means it won't drag on forever. Is this the shortest SJ series ever? Anyway, what manga volume will this be in? Nine?

Most people seem to agree that there will be 12 volumes in total. Volume 12 might have to be a little on the thick side, though.
I gave up on Death Note after reading one page in volume 10. If I had known it would end so soon I might have given it a second chance. Maybe I will, now. The story was pure genious up to a certain point, after which it lost steam bit by bit until I realized I didn't really care about the characters any more. Reading it in Japanese was a pain as well. I might wait for the english tankobon instead. /images/graemlins/stunned0.gif
I hope for a really good voice actor for Light, Luke and L. Their interaction is vital to the story since its so dialogue driven. I wonder if they will make use of Light's inner dialogue.
