Hi guys,

Thanks to Rightstuf's BROCCOLI sale I was wondering if I should get this DVD set or should I wait for the "remaster" set that Synch-Point boasted that they were going to put out.

The reason i am asking is because I'm skeptical that Synch-Point will make good on their promise in releasing the remastered set due to Synch-Point being, well Synch-Point (if you follow the company like some people did, you understand).

Please help, thanks!

I just emailed Broccoli and I got this response:

Hi Chiyosuke,

FLCL Ultimate Edition is currently being worked on by our production staff.

No indication on when to expect it though...

Thanks Chiyosuke though for your effort on finding out... too bad it still doesn't help my decision.

I watched the 3 individual disks very recently and I remember the video being very good and I have no complaints about them. As far as I can tell I really don't see a reason for the remaster with this series.

If you want to watch the show sometime soon, I wouldn't wait for Synch-Point. The video is fine in the current release, so unless you're obsessive about getting the remaster, the FLCL dvds out right now are perfectly fine. The packaging is awesome too (pretty much the R2 images on reversable covers) and the box is one of my favorite boxes to date (if you can get your hands on one), so I don't think you have to worry much about the new version coming in a prettier package.

I fired off another e-mail, so hopefully I can get a response by tommorow regarding some finishing/release timeframe.

Didnt the Australian R4 release also had a box? Is that one still available?

I'm not sure about the R4 release, but the R1 box is still available via AnimeGamers USA. Just a heads up since I'm not sure what region you're in. /images/graemlins/happy.gif

I too hear the video is not all that better. The only thing to debate is the audio. The audio's pretty strong as is the dub, so if they're offering to provide any sort of 5.1 track, there's certainly incentive.

Release dates with Synch point are a total crapshoot though. So if you're actually planning on watching it several times, instead of perhaps being someone who saw it on TV and was satisfied and just knows he or she wants to own it at some point in time so they have it for viewing in the future, I'd go for it now.

Yes, it had a box. I have only seen it once but it was beautiful. It has a metallic background with, I think, a similar set of character images to what appear on the R1 box. I kick myself routinely for not buying it -- though I did eventually get the R1. Definitely buy this set in a box, and get hold of the DVD booklets as well -- which were never reprinted, though for a while you could get the contents as a PDF from SP.

I have the R4 box and I must say I'm not too impressed. It's nice, but I think the R1 box is a lot nicer, from what I've seen. They still have the complete R4 set in stock here (http://www.axelmusic.com/productDetails/9322225034297).
