So I've finally finished watching Gantz, I'm working on Serial Experiment Lain, and Full Metal Panic as well. I really enjoyed the twisted story behind Gantz that kept me interested from beginning to end. Lain is kinda confusing right now. I'm currently on Vol.3 I think the first episode on that disc and yeah I'm a lil lost. Full Metal Panic is just classical anime, action, comedy, puns just enjoyable to watch. So if anyone else can make any more recommendations that'd be great, thanks.

well, first, this should be in the Recommendations section

my recommendation since you seem to like some of the darker, more action-oriented animes, go with either Last Exile or Infinite Ryvius

Yes I totally second the recommendation of Last Exile (http://www.animeondvd.com/reviews2/disc_reviews/2464.php)! They do a great job of "World Building".

You might also wanna try Gilgamesh (http://www.animeondvd.com/reviews2/disc_reviews/4065.php), Texhnolyze (http://www.animeondvd.com/reviews2/disc_reviews/2742.php), and Paranoia Agent (http://www.animeondvd.com/reviews2/disc_reviews/3239.php).

Well, put it this way: I like all three shows you mention in your initial post. Assuming that means our tastes aren't too dissimilar, you might look into the shows listed in my sig as well.

Someone above also mentioned Gilgamesh, and I'll second that recommendation too. Best show in current release, IMO.

I can't speak to Gantz, but in terms of a show like Full Metal Panic! that combines action and comedy, I guess I would recommend Gatekeepers, Saber Marionette J or possibly even Patlabor TV.

If you like twisted storylines I'd go with Elfen Lied.

As for something like FMP, have you gotten Fumoffu too? If not, you gotta get the follow up series.

Excellent, you Anime people are definitely helpful. I would research my own Animes out, but I hardly ever have any time for myself between work, going to the gym and working on my show car to really do any research. So I want thank each one of you for your recommendations. I still have to watch Fist of the North Star series, Desert Punk, and Gilgamesh which I own just haven't gotten around to watching them. Oh and I still need to watch Ghost in the Shell, GITS SAC 2nd gig, Ninja Scroll own all those too lol. Anyways thanks everybody, and I'll get the posting right one of these days /images/graemlins/happy.gif

I'd like to throw in Gankutsuou as one of the best new series currently being released.

Can't believe no one's mentioned Boogiepop Phantom yet. If you are looking for dark and twisted, BP's the way to go. Especially if you are enjoying Lain at all.

I totally agree, man!

Some smart guy who knows what's going on should have a website.

Lol if you just search the internet you'll probably find one. I found one, but it never seemed to have any concrete explanations for anything. Lain was supposed to be 26 episodes but they decided to end it at episode 13 for some reason. That's probably part of the reason for all of the confusion.

thought experiments lain (http://www.cjas.org/~leng/lain.htm) -- probably the Internet's premier Lain site.

And here (http://denbeste.nu/Chizumatic/tmw/SerialExperimentsLain.shtml)'s a standalone essay on the show I found particularly insightful -- mainly because much of the guy's interpretation matched my own. /images/graemlins/catgirl0.gif

Though it must be said you shouldn't take anybody else's reading of the series as definitive. As Yoshitoshi ABe observed in an online chat about the show:

[ QUOTE ]
ABe-SAN: Mr. Konaka wanted it a mystery b/c he believed giving the answer was not the purpose
ABe-SAN: so there can be different answers or analysis
ABe-SAN: this is writtened in a manner where there is not meant to be A answer
