Is it just me or did the show seem to short. I felt that too many characters were introduced and too much was going on. Nothing in Arima's past was solved, or his current feelings. Furthermore Tonami really didn't ever reconcile with Sakura.

Sadly, this is because the show never got a second season. The 26 episodes only cover the first 7-8 volumes of the manga, which I think is at least 22 volumes long in total.

A shame, as I really liked most of the series myself.

Maybe I will pick up some of the manga then.

It made sense that there was something missing. Felt the same way when I first thought that Revolutionary Girl Utena ended after episode 13 with the initial release from CPM. I started to really like the show, and thought that it would have been fun with episodes like 25, which focused on Yukino's little sister.

Oh yes, definately need to read the manga. The series barely scratches the surface. The only "warning" is that some people don't like that the manga explored the whole "dark" Arima side (formed by his past) and they didn't like the series actually doing side stories on some of the other characters, but since you want to know more about both, you should be good to go. :-)

Yet one of the many perils of doing a series that deals with a manga of that length (and that, I believe, wasn't done yet).

Furthermore, I think that Anno left in the middle, which surely didn't help things in terms of the production (this is most obvious in terms of the numerous recap episodes at a certain point in the series).

But yeah, the manga is great. I stopped a while back, but I may need to continue getting it again soon.

Definitely do so. If you liked the general "feel" of the anime and just thought it didn't go far enough, you will adore the manga, because the anime captured the atmosphere of the print version beautifully, but just didn't have enough time to really bring it all the way around to home plate.

It does a decent job of letting other characters have the spotlight too, so it's not all just Yukino and Arima!

I have to disagree with this. I turned to the manga after loving the anime, and found that the humor, humanity, and high energy of the show was lacking in its source material, leaving only a rather wispy romance in its place. It was pretty much exactly what I had been gratified to find the anime wasn't.

To each their own I suppose. When I read the manga volumes that covered what the show had, I felt like I was looking at a carbon copy, except it didn't make sound or move.

Sometimes the anime doesn't move much either. /images/graemlins/tongue.gif Beautiful music, though.
