View Full Version : What's Yasuomi UMETSU doing these days?

Has he been doing much these days, other than make-work such as the ending titles for Girls-High, etc.? The web site for Kiss And Cry hasn't been updated in four years so I guess we can assume that project is dead... Any other news? I'm missing Umetsu's unique and somewhat offbeat vision these days...

I don't know, but I'm pretty sure (or rather, optimistic) he's still working on Kiss and Cry. I'd love to see more Umetsu, but I'm also hesitant considering what he did to Mezzo *shivers*

If I can find it, I'll post a synopsis of an article I read in Newtype USA.

Do you mean the gratuitous underage sex in the OVA, or the predominance of really sappy and not-thought-through plot devices in the TV series?

I really think that Umetsu is at his best when choreographing oddball fight scenes, such as the bowling alley fight in Mezzo-Forte or the toilet stall battle in Kite. There, he is without peer. As for such matters as story and plot, he really needs is a good writer.

Put simply, Mezzo TV sucked. I loved the OVA, but the TV was a bit outlandish.

Was he involved in the Megazone 23 TV seires they were supposedly doing... or was that someone else?

Hmm, that would certainly be interesting if he were, but I haven't heard anything out of that in a long time which makes me wonder if it's still being done. It would be nice to see what Megazone was originally intended on being.
