This is another messed up match, lol. Both Jinnai and Hisoka are worthy contenders for the psycho position yet they have to face off each other in the first round.
Then we have Kenshin vs Maze where both characters do not even belong in this category imo, yet one of them will get to advance, lol.
Still in the end, I don't think either Kenshin/Maze will triumph, and I think it will be a landslide in subequent rounds.

You haven't seen El Hazard! /images/graemlins/stunned0.gif El Hazard has been out in R1 for several years now (since 1999-2000 on DVD, 1996 on VHS). Several El Hazard cameos have even appeared in the Tenchi series, most notably Fujisawa-sensei from El Hazard in the Tenchi in Tokyo series.

NOOOO Hisoka and Hiruma one is losing!!!
I wasn't sure how to vote the last one, so I abstained.
This time my pick for the other person actually works out cuz it's a person that I would have picked.
However, Dio is pwning Muraki's ass. /images/graemlins/depresse.gif No one likes psycho doctors

I haven't seen Tenchi either /images/graemlins/tongue.gif, and I don't really plan too. I was told it was a harem anime, and that doesn't interest me. I don't know much about El Hazard though, maybe I'll look into it.

Let you in on a little secret. I didn't even keep track of players when matching them up. I made the player tabs while you all were drafting with the pic, players, show, and team. Once all them had been assigned I simpled used all the team names I had made for figuring out draft order to make up the matches in the brackets. So I would pick Ladykillers vs Gay Lords and then went to pull their players tabs to put in the bracket. So I didn't even know players until the match was already set. Wasn't going to remember all 48 players my mind is too basic for that. /images/graemlins/sdsmiley.gif /images/graemlins/sdsmiley.gif /images/graemlins/sdsmiley.gif

If that will be the result, I'll be disappointed. This isn't a popularity contest, that is what the anime draft is for.
For the Boys of Summer Tourney draft, it caters to a specific type and is suppose to give some recognition for niche characters who wouldn't be chosen otherwise if it was only based on popularity.
Don't get me wrong, I love Kenshin and RK is still my favorite series surpassing all, but imo he does not fit in this category/poll.

I wouldn't worry too much about that yet. Right now Kenshin got a favoriable draw. With all due respects to Maze he about as Psycho as /images/graemlins/catgirl0.gif /images/graemlins/catgirl0.gif /images/graemlins/catgirl0.gifSamurai X/images/graemlins/catgirl0.gif /images/graemlins/catgirl0.gif /images/graemlins/catgirl0.gif himself. In the past votes have gone the way of the archetypes like in the Diva Open where Miss Sakkai was booted early.
If the current pattern holds true then Kenshin will be facing Dilandau of a relatively popular show Escaflowne. Of course if Himura gets in it will be a real test of if the voters will go by type.

In making my choice for the Psycho pool it came down to either Maze (Male-type) or Strike Man (You're Under Arrest! ). I felt that Maze would be better known than Strike Man & would have a better chance but I had no way of knowing that he'd be matched up against Kenshin (Who really isn't psycho at all IMO). It looks like Kenshin will take this matchup but I don't see him making it to the finals either.

Spirit Of The Stage
06-17-2006, 05:46 AM
Katsuhiko Jinnai, El Hazard*******
-----VS-----
*******Hisoka, Hunter X Hunter
Hisoka is a great pick, and against the majority of the psycho ones he would have been my choice. However...he's against Jinnai. I LOVE JINNAI - he is the best (and worst) thing in El Hazard, his warp viewing, his manicial laugh - sorry, my vote went for Jinnai...
Millions Knives, Trigun*******
-----VS-----
*******Makoto Shishio, Rurouni Kenshin TV
Despite these being two of the most popular series around, I know very little about them. However, from spoilers and friends, I went with Knives.
Dio Eraclea, Last Exile*******
-----VS-----
*******Muraki Kazutaka, Descendants of Darkness
I think Dio is going to win this, but I went with Muraki, after an unfortunate viewing at a drunken yaoi night (don't ask, I was dragged into it) made me shudder at this guy...*still remembers and shudders*
Alucard, Hellsing*******
-----VS-----
*******Kurudo 'Dr Jackal' Akabane, Getbackers
Chimp, damn you for this bracket!!! /images/graemlins/happy.gif Jackal is my pick but against the ever popular Alucard (and definitely should be here as well) - damn it's tough. However, if I wasn't in the tournament, I'd still go for Jackal, mainly as Alucard has a purpose for his work - so does Jackal, but his work in transporting coincides with his hobby...murder. That's right - Jackal's hobby is murder. If you're not deranged with that logic, I don't know what else I can say...^_^
Dilandau Albatou, Vision of Escaflowne*******
-----VS-----
*******Yoichi Himura, Eyeshield 21
YA-HA!!!! Himura on account of him being awesome and being a psychotic quarterback of a show which a European like me should have no interest in, and yet made it totally awesome.
Maze, Maze Megaburst Space*******
-----VS-----
*******Kenshin Himura, Rurouni Kenshin TV
Abstained, partially because I know zilch, and partly because if what everyone is saying, these two shouldn't be in this round anyway...

She is a cutie, I wouldn't mind following Hisoka's footsteps. There is just something captivating about Hisoka that draws me in and I get excited watching him whenever he appears. While he is a psycho freak, I feel that the crew is safer with his company, lol. Go Hisoka, you are within striking distance!
To be honest, I didn't think Hisoka (a series that has not been licenesed yet) would put up a tight match with the infamous Jinnai from El Hazard, a series that is highly praised here and have been released in R1 for so long.

Might have been great but he would have been a speciality pick and thus very risky.
You see when this game started out there were six possible archetypes Bishōnen, Psycho, Ecchi, Cool, Rascal, and Youthful, but only four of them were going to be used.
Now to make matters even more difficult each team was only being allow to draft five characters. You see two of the archetypes were going to be dropped. So each coach need to weight the risk of drafting a speciality character verse a more well rounded character. Some teams did take the gamble.
Of course some have mentioned Hamdo as well as other character they felt would have done great. As they say hindsight is 20/20. I mean they also didn't pick Mr. Me-Mania from Perfect Blue which I feel might have done well in the Psycho pool as well.

Damnit, none of my characters have secured a victory and 2 of 4 are on just barely holding up, this tourney might be short for me, haeheaheahea
I've been in the last 3 anime drafts and none of them gave me this kind of excitement. There's so many factors to take into account and the most challenging one is not knowing who your opponent is. Even if you picked the best candidate, it can still bomb due to Chimp's evil choices, 4 of 6 categories!
It would definitely spice things up if some of these ideas were incorporated into the anime draft, but that draft is so BIG that it just might not be feasible at all.

That's okay as this is really the first time out for the BOS and its really different from the other poll games we have here.
The Anime Draft is a popularity contest where 20 or so forum members draft 10 players in ten rounds. Then each round has all 20 characters for each round compete in a poll. The players with the most points for all the rounds is consider the winner.
The Moe Invitational and Diva Open were new this year as well and both took nominations for characters that best reperesent each archetype. Then they were put into a NCAA tourney brackets and had single elimination polls to determine a winner. With light variations in the mechanics for each game.
The Anime March Madness assignes an anime show for each school in the NCAA tourney. Then Plaid Wolf does a great job of matching the results of the actual tourney to the anime shows our tourney.
Then over in the English Track forum they have two English Dub drafts where they draft dub VAs then each team has to assign them to a character of the featured show.
So far those are the games we play for now. But I think the BOS is one of the most complicated as it involves a lot of tactics and thought. At least I hope so. /images/graemlins/sweat000.gif /images/graemlins/sweat000.gif /images/graemlins/sweat000.gif
