This is Mamoru Hosoda's latest movie, based on a rather well-known SF story by Yasutaka Tsutsui (published back in the 1970s, I think). I read the original story recently, and it looks like this movie is going to be a sequel of sorts to it (the teenaged heroine from the book is apparently a 30-something supporting character in the new movie).

Yasutaka Tsutsui also wrote the novel "Paprika", which is being adapted into anime by Satoshi Kon.

Oooo, I remember looking at a poster for this during the Tokyo Anime Fair(posted a picture of it) and was wondering about it. With this and Hoshizora Kiseki, I'm going to be happy this fall heh.

I have never understood why Japanese previews are so bad.

I seem to remember reading somewhere that apparently Japanese audiences are supposed to care more about the dialogue and character interaction so that's what gets edited in.

But that still doesn't excuse the fact that most Japanese trailers spend more time telling you who the production staff are than actually showing you interesting scenes from the film...

But they don't show dialogue and character. They show melodrama and cliche, and then throw a bad pop song over it...no matter what the movie.
Shinobi, for example, which is two minutes of love story and 90 minutes of action, contained the entire love story in the previews with a horrible Ayumi Hamasaki song over it and almost made me skip it. Only undying love for Nakama Yukie got me to the theater.

I'll agree with that. There are a lot of trailers where it'll pan over stills of a background while telling you about the staff or people/companies involved. There are good trailers(I like the Ghibli ones), but most I watch to get the general feel or style of a show before I watch it.
