View Full Version : Other anime or anime related sites you visit
Inspired by the thread in OT, I decided to make a thread here. While I know the thread in OT was only for other forums you hang out in, feel free to post any site that you regularly browse. Although I left out anime blogs, mainly due to the fact that often times they're linked to fansubs, and I'm not totally clear on the rules to linking to certain blogs. But even without those types of blogs, there are still plenty of fun sites I visit. Who knows, you might find a great new site you never knew about.
Moonphase (http://moonphase.cc/) - Moonphase is well, Moonphase. I check it every day, even though I can't read Japanese heh. It's usually very up to date with information, and has links to news on anime, games, figures, and a lot of other things. Although I do caution that some links can be NSFW. But even if you don't understand Japanese, a very good site to have bookmarked.
Mononari's Blog (http://www.mononari.com/tt/index.php) - It has always been a guilty pleasure browsing Mononari's blog. A majority of the posts are in Korean, but Mononari knows english, so you'll see some back and forth conversations. The blog is a great site to go to for images of new DVD's, figures, and just neat stuff in general. Like the last site, things might be NSFW.
Danny Choo's (http://www.dannychoo.com/index/eng/) - A great photo blog to visit. Danny is a great guy, and many of you might of saw him dawning the stormtrooper armor and strolling around Japan. You can find pictures and thoughts on models, figures, even reports from events. Some contents might not be SFW.
Those are the top three I usually browse.

ANN, 4ch, iich, danbooru (discovered it the day before the host screwed them over, and now they're closed to the public, argh -_-), Suki, animeNfo, and... well there are no artist sites I browse with any regularity, but I'll raid one here and then when linked to it. I'll also jump around to various official sites for shows in a new season, but again, it's not a recurring thing.
I don't really visit any anime blogs or other messageboards.

The only anime sites I visit and re-visit are review sites. Besides AoD I also visit:
AnimeAcademy (http://animeacademy.com) - I love their concise and straight to the point reviews. It also helps that more than one person reviews each anime.
Meta Anime Review Project (http://www.animecritic.com/_metareview/) - One of my favorite anime sites. It's the RottenTomatoes.com of anime.
AnimeNfo.com (http://animenfo.com/) - Same deal as AnimeAcademy, only with a bunch of fans. I usually take the comments with a grain of salt here, but it's nice to get a general consensus of an anime I'll be buying in the future.
AnimeJump.com (http://animejump.com/) - I usually browse for pictures or screen caps. /images/graemlins/tongue.gif
Animetric.com (http://animetric.com/) - Same deal. Maybe take a look at the star rating.
I also maintain my own anime review site, though I've only been at it for about a year: kenoki.com/anime (http://www.kenoki.com/anime)
Ah, forgot Anime Academy heh. I love AA, and I do check out their reviews to for certain shows.

Animenation, TRS (has interesting articles), ANN & Hitoshi Doi mainly.
Often browse online stores; CDJ, Animejungle, JSMall, Playasia, DVDTop1, Yesasia to see what new non-R1 licensed R2J & R3 series have been released.

Sometimes I'll visit official websites for series. As a way to see images or preview things. Heck I visit the Happy 7 (http://www.happy-7.jp/) site. Which I know will eventually stop updating like a lot of official sites, but they still have volumes 6 and 7 to mention in the updates. Yet they're still stuck on volume 5. Heck I had to rely on Amazon Japan (http://www.amazon.co.jp/) in order to see the volume 6 cover and probably the volume 7 cover soon.
I also visited the My HiME (http://www.sunrise-inc.co.jp/my-hime/) and My-Otome (http://www.my-zhime.net/) official sites back in the day and maybe I should check up on them again later when I'm not feeling lazy. Especially My-Otome since well there is still the OVAs.
Also of course I on occasion visit 2-Chan for episode images, AnimeNFO, and well various blogs on a off and on basis. Blogs can be good when you know a series will well let's just say never be translated. Yes I'm extremely bitter and err I'll leave it at that. I can't think of anything else off hand. Well err there is searching for sites in general, but that's a given.

Wait, what? Do you mean the specials/omake on the discs?

Don't tell me you forgot about the talk about there being an OVA for My-Otome during the time of the final episode(s) airing. Although it's not yet known what the OVA will be about or how long it will be. There was much speculation and hope in the past. Also if I meant specials/omake then I would have called them that, but still that would be another reason to check the site.

Only two with any regularity. One being my own, of course (Animania; see the sig /images/graemlins/sdsmiley.gif) and the other being KarmaBurn's (http://karmaburn.com/) blog. I sometimes hit the various Anime News Network's site if I want some info on a show or manga and can't find it here, but that's about it.

I visit ANN very frequently, but almost exclusively related to their Encyclopedia (either looking stuff up, contributing, or posting on the forums).
Most of the other anime sites I visit frequently aren't really general anime-related stuff and mainly have to do with dub voice work in particular, like CrystalAcids.com (http://www.crystalacids.com) and Dub Review (http://dubreview.com).
And I do visit the GameFAQs anime & manga boards quite frequently since that's where I started out, even though my actual posting there is somewhat sporadic. It seems there's so much stuff on the Other Titles board that as soon as you post something there it gets buried under crap like "so-and-so series episode XX is now out from so-and-so fansubbing group" topics in a matter of 30 minutes to a few hours.

I have absolutely no idea. Maybe the site says something, but I can't understand Japanese sadly.

I vist AnimeNation frequently. Actually, it's the only forum where I actively post. I visit this forum mainly for reading and not chatting.
I also go to animenewsnetwork for references and sometimes to browse their forum.

Toon Zone and T.H.E.M. Anime for reviews, ANN for show info, and Minitokyo for wallpapers. There are plenty of others, of course, but these are some that come to mind.

Just ANN and TRSI other than that none really except for maybe once in a great while.

AoD is the only anime site I visit daily.
I visit Danny Choo's blog like once or twice a month.
I used to visit Animetric, THEM, and others for reviews. Now that I Netflix a lot of things, I just don't read that many reviews anymore since I can just try it instead of needing to read reviewers that I generally agree with.
And I either check CrystalAcids or AnimeNewsNetwork to check cast lists.

I sometimes go to mikomi's anime reviews and animeNFO to get a good summary of what a new show is about.
I also check ANN's encyclopedia (don't care for their reviews) to find any staff info.
And of course I'll check out a blog every here and there to find a more detailed summary of a unlicensed anime. Can't think of a frequent one to go to.
As for the GAMEFAQS Anime and Manga other titles board, don't go there much due to all the stupid "vs." topics. /images/graemlins/tongue.gif

* Aestheticism (http://www.aestheticism.com/visitors/index.htm) , a classic site for everything shoujo-related, especially since the closure of Manga-bonbons. Matt Thorn's website (http://www.matt-thorn.com/), too.
* Pelleas (http://www.pelleas.net/aniTOP/) and Catsuka (http://www.catsuka.com/) for a more diverse and in-deep outlook on animation.
* Heisei Democracy as the closest imitation of Moonphase we would have in English.
Other includes Moonphase, Wakachan, ANN's encyclopedia and Anidb, French websites like DVDanime (http://www.dvdanime.net/index.php) or MANE (http://60gp.ovh.net/~manewsex/forum/), more 'niche' websites (gears online for FSS and mechas, Moonlit World for Type-moon topics, etc)...

ANN, AniDB, AnimeNFO for information on series. The Anime MetaReview (awesome site) for reviews.

In the past, I have visited, on a number of occasions, over 90 percent of the sites mentioned in the previous posts.
Currently, the site I visited the most often is 2ch, (http://www.2ch.net/) which includes the largest collection of message boards in the world. I Although it tends to have a lot of negative and bashing posts, I follow 2ch to, among other things, learn what Japanese fans think of anime, games, and and other topics.
Although I rarely post at Anime News Network, (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com) I check its news daily and contribute quite a bit to the database of its encyclopedia - I am closing in, if I have not already surpassed, 100 contributions. Virtually all my sources are official and over 95 percent of them are Japanese.
I check AnimeSuki regularly and have contributed there a wealth of information, etc., again mainly from Japanese sources.
I rarely post reviews at AnimeNfo, but I have contributed some info there.
I have posted a few times on Japanese sites, including one post last year which pointed out a now defunct blog at Rakuten, (http://www.rakuten.co.jp) including its URL, which for months had spread false rumors of a Gundam SEED DESTINY sequel called Gundam SEED ETERNITY. To my surprise, within a couple of hours or so after I had made the post, that particular blog ceased to exist at Rakuten....
EDIT: My post on the Rakuten blog was made last year.

Other review sites mostly. Animetric, Anime Jump! (and its hentai counterpart), Hentai Neko, ANN and the Crystal Acids English language database. Even if I've already seen the show, I like to be amused by how different some opinions are from mine, and I've learned to a number of review styles to gauge how much I'll like a similar program.

Along with this site, I'm a regular ANN user/browser/poster. I also browse at Anime Academy but don't post on their forum. For image galleries, I visit AnimeCubed, Anime Galleries dot Net, and Anime Project Alliance Gallery. TO look up conventions and obtain access toi their websites, I use Anime-Cons.com.
