After watching the first volume of Kamichu, and reading the manga (which is actually subtitled Kami-sama de Chugakusei-lit: Junior Highschool Girl Goddess) i was wondering if anyone knows where it is set, from the manga and the scene in episode 1 (where Yurie tries to summon the wind) it looks like its set in Shikoku somewhere in the northwest corner, maybe in the vicinity of Matsuyama?

I don't have it in front of me, but the insert mentions the name of the town. In the scene when she first says "Kamichu", you can see the camera pull away from the town on the coast of Honshu, right across the water from Shikoku.

The towns name is Onomichi. Located between Osaka and Hiroshima. There was a map somewhere online which showed locations of places in the anime. There is also a video online which shows scenes from the anime followed by live shots of Onomichi. Pretty cool.

Spent part of a day in Onomichi in late March, lots of temples, lots of walking through back alleys to get to temples, and lots of hills. Also walked though covered shopping arcade. And visited the set of the Yamato movie. Neat place.

I was temporarily adopted by a 79 year old man, (I'm 43), he escorted me to about half the temples and walked me into the ground. Genki desu. Cool guy, even though he new English, we (attempted on my part) to talk in Japanese.
