So in short they've become magical girls. Well I'll have to wait and see. I'm still kind of cautious about it. Heh I wonder which villains will be used. Maybe they'll make new ones.

While I've watched the original and enjoyed it, I'm not really a fan of it. So I'm taking this series for what it is - a cute magical girl show. /images/graemlins/sdsmiley.gif Those clips look great, and I'm looking forward to this.
Out of curiosity, what's the licensing status on it? I'm certain a R1, uncut/unedited, Japanese language version on dvd is never going to happen, but I assume Cartoon Network has plans for it.

Cartoon Network is a co-producer, aren't they? Didn't they help this go forward precisely to market off of the "anime" lure? How can you be certain they will not release a bilingual unedited version here? If they wanted to release an English only version cut and edited to conform to their American audience's taste, what would that make their release of the original Powerpuff Girls?
(Diverting off of this point, while mesmerized I'm somewhat lukewarm about those transformation scenes. A bit much for my tastes.)

To be honest, Cartoonetwork US has yet to acknowledge this project, and only acknowledgement is of Toei, Aniplex/Sony, and of course, TV Tokyo. (Obviously, sense it's aired, but CN has yet to even comment about this project for some odd reason. What's stranger is their name is listed in "Producer" but not in the end shot, oddly enough...)

Maybe they will make shorter versions for future episodes? Heck on a side note in some series you only see the transformation scene for certain characters once. Heck in those series it's often treated as a special event rather than a normal occurence.

Maybe "certain" wasn't the best word for me to use. But this just doesn't seem like it has much chance of an unedited release if CN is behind it in R1. But I suppose that really depends on who winds up distributing it, if they release it at all, and how persuasive they are that the Japanese language is a necessary element.

I'm not sure what you're asking there. But I will say that there's something of a double standard in editing for American produced shows vs imports. The imports seem to be scrutinized more, and thus wind up with things removed that are otherwise included in shows produced in America.
Regardless, though, I'm really liking what little I've seen so far. This should be fun.

One thing that can be said. While some things change others remain the same. The transformation scenes are a bit weak. Hopefully they'll include certain traits. Such as Bubbles speaking Squirrel for example. Over all I'm going to consider checking out a bit more, but I remain cautious.

They took some artisitic liberties.
The PPG's are basically Magical girls now: Prof. Utonium's Son, Ken was messing with Chemical X and accidently transforms 3 random girls into the Powerpuff girls. And think the accident tranforms some of the villains as well.

Buttercup's transformation is my favorite, although at first I thought they were playing a Daft Punk song for her background music. /images/graemlins/sweat200.gif
For anyone who saw the entire episode, did Mojo Jojo make any speeches before attacking the girls? His voice sounds too high to me, but I do have to wonder whether or not he still says anything in overly drawn-out sentences and repeated phrases.
That being said, the show looks interesting.

It looks as if the retro 50's style and sensibility that made the Powerpuff Girls so much fun was stripped out to make this into a magical girl show. Am I the only one who remembers the episode where Buttercup does the Sailor Moon transformation? It's as if the parody is turning in on itself.
This is a curiosity only.

Meh; too much moving for the sake of moving for my tastes. All the different cuts started screwing with my eyes as well....
But then, I've always liked the elegance of the transform scenes in Sailor Moon compared to some of the others I've seen.
Bubbles's voice is deeper pitched than I thought it'd be. o.o
I have no real opinion of this so far; didn't care for the original.

Having seen the first episode, I've got to say that PPGZ is a lot of fun. The series is complete fluff, and knows it. We get more than a little fourth-wall breakage, along with plenty of gags. I smiled the entire time. /images/graemlins/catgirl0.gif

You know the truth is even if this goes downhill or in the case of some here decides to dig under the soil, I may still watch it just for the train wreck factor. Plus curiousity as to how each villain will be changed.

IT really hurt watching this show! It is not all the things they changed, but just the show in general. /images/graemlins/stunned0.gif /images/graemlins/stunned0.gif
I hope it is just because it is the first episode, but they need to toned down on the transformation dancing. I will watch a few more episodes too see if it improves.

Compared to the American Powerpuff, the first episode of Powerpuff Girls Z is disappointing.
The animation quality surprising uses a lot of cost measures.
The frenzy action that is found in the American version is absent in the Japanese one with uninspired, clumsy fighting scenes. What happened to all the action that was seen in the Powerpuff Girls Z promo last year?
Even the Powerpuff Girls Z transformation scenes are less than epic.

The villains all look VERY VERY crappy.
Except for Seduca and the Rowdy Ruff Boys.

They made HIM some sort of clown thing...
Seduca looks fine, but since the quality is bad, I couldn't make out if she had green eyes or freckles. LIKE SHE SHOULD HAVE.

I think that's Big Billy. Either that, or a new character, since it DOES look like some sort of zombie creation thing that is probably Mojo's un-needed henchman.
There's another shot that has Fuzzy in it, and he doesn't look too great either.

Not to say the series is flawless, but it does improve a bit with the second and third episode. Now I know it's a bit early and there are a total of 52 episodes to work with. However I wish they'd give Mojo a bit of a rest. He's already been the "villain" for the first three episodes and now he'll be the villain for the fourth.
Focus on someone else for a change. Yeah sure we get to see Princes Morebucks or whatever she's called in this version during episode 3. However at most we're just having her established as well a member of the class. Her role as a villain hasn't been shown off yet.

Which may also end up being true in this version as well. In point of fact there are a few things one should take note of.
1. Just because Buttercup has fangirls does not mean she likes girls. She has fangirls because she's good at sports. How others feel about her has nothing to do with how she feels about them.
2. They have not indicated one way or the other how Buttercup feels about guys vs girls as of the first three episodes. In fact it may be a bit too early to worry about that aspect since it's only the first three episodes that have aired.
3. Gang Green Gang have yet to appear during the actual series. Thus we have no idea how Buttercup will react to them in this series or heck even how they will be yet.

I agree that the first episode is TERRIBLE, but for some odd reason I decided to check out episodes 2 and 3, and IMHO, it is night and day in the entertainment department.
The show is kinda funny.
Especially Buttercup's allergy to skirts and her "I can't believe I'm surrounded by these two air heads" mentality (which I agree with her).
That and I seem to be oddly mesmerized by Bubbles's transformation (which hasn't happened since my Sailor Moon watching days).
The best part is showing clips of this to my co-workers (especially Bubbles's transformation).
Their faces have this, "I feel so dirty..." kinda look.

Actually there was some decent Buttercup/Bubble subtext in episode 3, although obviously more from Bubbles' pov then Buttercup's. I won't claim its canon or anything, but it was there. Photographic evidence:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v214/j-syxx/vlcsnap-147120.jpg
And actually I didn't even say anything about her liking girls, just that the uber-tomboy thing was cute and she apparently had fangirls. Her flipping out over wearing a dress was pretty humorous. And Bubbles at least has been proven to be one of her fangirls. lol
And even if PPG and PPGZ's continuities had anything to do with eachtother (which they don't) why is her liking whats his name from the Gang Green Gang defnitive evidence she couldn't like girls? You must not get out much if you think everyone is definitiely straight or gay. This goes much more so for anime.

This show is pretty decent so far, but I haven't watched an episode of the US version in over three years in order to make some comparisons. The transformation sequences really are a bit too long though, but still cool nonetheless IMO.

I could be wrong, but CN barely shows the original series if at all anyway. Making it for most to keep up with the episodes. Plus there is the matter of them all being repeats now. Although I'm sure I've missed a few episode.
