I'm always amazed at how formal these announcments are. Everyone wears suits, and they treat it like they're presenting a award. I can picture some writer or director showing up in flip flops, unshaven, and in a t-shirt to one of these things heh, kind of like "The Dude" in the Big Lebowski heh.

That is all I could discern from my limited Japanese and Babel Fish. For only an extra 2,940 yen for a figurine it seems quite reasonable. Can't see them adding anything else without making it more expensive.

This combined with the Outlaw Star remaster, First Gundam and the Votoms re-release in singles is making for a wallet-draining, good year.

There's nothing on the CD Japan page to indicate that this item is limited in any way; ditto for Amazon Jp's listing. So, I would be fairly confident of being able to order this from either retailer towards the end of the year. Only problem with waiting is that Amazon Jp is offering it at a 25% discount right now (26775 yen or about $250) rather than the full list of 35700 yen ($340 or so), but that likely won't be the case after its release next month. On the other hand, if you wait, it might show up at a discounted price during one of CD Japan's occasional clearance sales; maybe ...

This show looks very interesting. Does anyone think there is any chance of this being released in R1 or is it overwhelmingly likely that this will be the only way to watch it? I haven't bought R2's yet, but this set might start me down the road. Thanks.

Release Date: 2007/01/26 | Catalog Number: BCBA-2786
Price: 15,540 Yen (incl. tax)
Not much info on the content of this release rather than it's limited and will come with a bonus Disc attached.
Moreover I assume the Top wo Nerae! 2 Gekijouban DVD release that Discstation lists as well for the same release date though lower price appears to be the regular edition:

Release Date: 2007/01/26 | BCBA-2788
Price: 6,300 Yen (incl. tax)
• Additional DiscStation also lists the release details for the first DVD of the Madhouse TV anime adaption of DEATH NOTE. While I wasn't that tempted to go for the series at first, seeing that VAP will handle the DVD release (and loving them ever since their splendid job they've done on MONSTER) I *am* tempted now:

10-19-06 (4:19AM EDT)---- New To Heart 2 OVA Series Announced
Following the Fall, 2005 broadcast of a TV animation, AquaPlus has announced a new To Heart 2 OVA series. Three volumes will comprise the release set for distribution this winter. Confirmed staff include charachter designer Yanagisawa Masahide (Rurouni Kenshin OVA, Bottle Fairy), Katsura Kenichirou (Imortal Grand Prix) and Kato Yasuhisa (Azumanga Daioh). Content is uncertain at this time but if the the videogame series by Leaf (which recently got an "X-Rated Version") is anything to go by, the medium of Original Video Animation could allow for decidedly greater artistic freedoms. On the game side Leaf is currently preparing the tentatively titled "ToHeart2 Anaza-Deizu". To Heart originally debuted as a hentai visual novel love adventure for PC in 1997.

As stated in another thread from a while back, they haven't specifically said Shin Ai Yue Ni is the last ST Musical. It IS however, the last with the Hanagumi (Sakura, Kohran, Iris, Sumire (who came back in the last show but not as a major player), Kanna, Reni, Orihime, Kaede and Ohgami).
That being said however, I haven't seen anything indicating whether or not there will be another Hoshigumi performance. We know the Paris group is pretty much finished with live shows after they canceled the X-Mas in Paris show.
And yes, you are correct that this is the one from August.

• While no details on the content as of yet, DiscStation has the first details for the DVD release of BLACK LAGOON ~ The Second Barrage up:
BLACK LAGOON ~ The Second Barrage Vol. 001 First Press Limited Edition
Catalog Number: GNBA-7370 | Release Date: 2007/01/31
Price: 5,775 Yen (incl. tax) | 46 min.
Regular Edition has the Catalog Number GNBA-7370 and priced 5,775 Yen (incl. tax) as well.
*Most likely* the limited edition will come with a Rei Hiroe illustrated box for Season 2 (just like the ltd. edition Vol. 1 of the first season).
Now I just *hope* that Geneon puts a bit more love in the DVD release of The Second Barrage than they are currently doing for season 1 (and...no, the same old Geneon TV spots put on every disc is *not* what I consider a DVD extra -.-)
• Also from DiscStation, the first release details of the 3rd DVD for the HELLSING OVA:
HELLSING Vol. 3 First Press Limited Edition
Catalog Number: GNBA-1143 | Release Date: 2007/02/09
Price: 7,875 Yen (incl. tax) | ca. 35 min. running time scheduled
No word on the content of the ltd. edition as far as I've seen that. The regular edition has the catalog number GNBA-1153 and is priced 5,985 Yen (incl. tax).

Released on DVD in February next year, the Madhouse / Masayuki Kojima anime adaption of Kaiji Kawaguchi's great Seinen manga Taiyou no Mokushiroku - A Spirit of the Sun ^_^ Release details according to DiscStation:
Taiyou no Mokushiroku Zenpen - Kaikyou
Catalog Number: TBD-3033 | Release Date: 2007/02/09
Price: 7,140 Yen (incl. tax) | 77 min.
- Firstpress comes with a Kaiji Kawaguchi illustrated Box to house both Volumes
- Comes with storyboard booklet
Taiyou no Mokushiroku Kouhen - Kokkyou
Catalog Number: TBD-3034 | Release Date: 2007/02/09
Price: 7,140 Yen (incl. tax) | 77 min.
Comes with:
- Animation setting materials
- Liner Notes
So...this anime adaption turned out to be a 2 episode special thing only? I wonder how much of the manga they could manage to adapt (cram) into this...but with Kojima working on it it's a must buy for me anyways (now please Madhouse give Kojima the chance to do a full length 20th Century Boys TV anime adaption at last ^_~)

11-10-06 (3:51AM EDT)---- Ayu Mayu Theater OVA Release
Ayu Mayu Gekijou (Ayu Mayu Theater), seen as 30-second shorts shown following the credits of several episodes of Kimi Ga Nozomu Eien TV series and the Akane Maniax OVA, is getting it's own entirely new and dedicated OVA in Japan. Character designs are expected to remain in the same style of the shorts. February 23, 2007 is the release date, retail is 6,090 Yen. The official website is www.ayumayu.net. (http://www.ayumayu.net.) The segments as they've played out so far show the characters AyuAyu and MayuMayu portrayed in chibi form in a comical situation totally irrelevant to the main story of the given headliner animation episode.

It is the same price as the Tenshi no tamago DVD that was released in 2001 and went out of print. Perhaps this is a reissue.
What was the live-action movie about? I know only of the American one from the '80s that used Tenshi no tamago footage.

Just an update on the Tenshi no Tamago confusion. I saw an ad in Animage that indicated the anime is indeed being rereleased. Sorry to have muddied the waters for nothing.

Got the DVD yesterday. 3 episodes plus the st:pinky-ish figure. Only on-DVD special I noticed was a commentary of the 1st episode by Sayuri and Riku's seiyuus plus the director.
The included DVD booklet was kind of cool though, as the back side is like a full mini-poster of Sayuri.
Not too bad for the price, I guess. Also it seems the first 5 vols will of the LE will include st:pinky-ish figures.
If I remember correctly:
Vol 2: Tsukasa
Vol 3: Mina
Vol 4: Hiromi
Vol 5: Yuko (HomeEc teacher)

Yeah, actually, all 9 will have them. In order: Sayuri, Mina, Tsukasa, Hiromi (volleyball team captain), Yuuko (home ec. teacher), the store girl (who has no name), Ayame (Sayuri's best friend), Haruka (homeroom teacher), and Koayu (swim team captain). I'm looking forward to getting the first volume next week. :)

Interesting that it's Bandai releasing it, since it was Geneon that had acquired, remastered, and re-released the TV series.
Before I decide to spring for this, I'd be interested to know (as I'm sure others do) if the remastering of the movies was done a bit more competently than that of the TV series.

I actually thought they used HD masters for the previous releases. They're practically perfect progressive encodes with all the detail you'd think would be there, including film grain (!). It's possible that this is just the same discs, but with a re-release to cash in on the HD remaster craze.

Aliasing from the HD master being deinterlaced/bobbed. Way to waste a remaster.

It's a Gotoh fest, essentially copying from my blog (http://anime.thenexxus.org/blog/archives/2007/05/kiddy_grade_ign_2.html):
The first of the the Kiddy Grade movies is due out on the 27th July 2007 for 6,300 Yen, 4,725 Yen with the 25% Amazon preorder discount. Not listed on CDJapan yet or Yesasia yet (Yesasia still don't even have the KG2 PV unless its listed under some obscure mistranslation again*). This time around we get an audio commentary (Yay! Better feature Aya!). The credits mention asread who, since they didn't work on the original, must have had some involvement in the new director's cut stuff. No cover artwork available yet. Also, according to CDJapan is is in widescreen, unlike the original series.

The first Gigantic Formula DVD is out on the same day for 6,090 Yen (4,568 with discount). This one is also on CDJapan. If I read the details correcly first press bonuses include a box (holding four DVDs) with artwork by Megumi Kadonosono, character card(s) designed by the same, a mecha design card and a sound drama CD. Cover artwork is by Keiji Gotoh. Also in widescreen but only two episodes, and both sites list is as Dolby stereo rather than LPCM.

Natsu e no Tobira (The Door Into Summer) is a shota movie about a 19th century, 14-year old French boy getting seduced by an older women, and all of his friends reactions to it.
Sigh...I fear it speaks ill of this hobby that I don't even for a second suspect that you're joking... Well, at least I didn't pick it up expecting a clever time travel story...
It does surprise me that they used that title; that Heinlein novel is well-known in Japan, and the Japanese and English titles both match.

I've seen Natsu e no Tobira on laserdisc and it's actually quite good. It falls a little short of the classic status but it's a decent shoujo story full of romance, angst and tradgey. The animation and character designs are very attractive at least.
While the main character is young, everything is done in a really decent manner (as is most stuff from the 80's). Overall It's an intelligent and poetic story. It's one of the few anime i've seen where characters interchange from speaking Japanese to French every now and again.
You can buy all 3 titles seperatly if your only interested in 1.
If you want an exceptional sci fi story with adult characters then i highly recommend Andromeda Stories (http://www.amazon.co.jp/%E3%82%A2%E3%83%B3%E3%83%89%E3%83%AD%E3%83%A1%E3%8 3%80%E3%83%BB%E3%82%B9%E3%83%88%E3%83%BC%E3%83%AA% E3%83%BC%E3%82%BA-%E5%85%89%E7%80%AC%E9%BE%8D/dp/B000MX7UTO). The old VHS release of this used to be very rare and go for around $200 when i last checked. I'm glad it's being rescued from obscurity since not many tv specials are.
Towards the Terra is easily the weakest of the three. While it has an interesting setting, it really drags and loses its sense of direction half way into the story.

What I mean is that Bandai Entertainment's not going to license and rerelease Esca on regular DVD because not enough sales in America are there. Are Americans going to shell out $100~200 for remastered Esca when they've been able to buy it for $40 for years? Heck, while Esca will probably get a Japanese Blu-Ray release eventually there may not be enough interest to do one in the states.

Whoa, they're finally releasing the Gundam movies with the original mono audio. Good thing I never got around to re-authoring the old releases with the LD audio, as it's quite a bitch to synch up and would mostly have been a waste of time.
Finally having the original SD Gundam on DVD will be nice as well. Gundam parodying Wacky Races FTW!
edit: Although I'm pleased at the Gundam movie re-release news, doing another DVD set of theatrical releases but not putting them on Blu-Ray is not a good sign of Bandai Visual's support for HD releases. I suppose they'd want to see how well their upcoming summer releases do before committing to more BDs, but this is starting to get rather frustrating.

Hmm... I don't see anything on the Watch Impress article or on the Bandai listing for the box set that corroborates that report. It's part of Mark IV, right? Mark IV and all the other ones are listed, and there's nothing in the fine print that says something has been removed...
Oh, I see what the problem might be. Gunota was linking to the rental version, and Bandai often removes things from the rental versions to make them less attractive so people will actually buy the DVD. Usually it's just extras that get removed, though, but they have removed stuff like OVAs and such from Dancouga, Final Plus from SEED Destiny, and the Astray shorts. We'll see, though.
But I'll certainly be pissed if it's not on there. Damn armchair lawyers, parody works like this are protected.

Highly unlikely considering when they were remastered for the original DVD release. The original release, though, when compared to the remastered box set really hasn't aged well at all.
Here's an example of the same frame between the TV and movie version:
Movie (http://img73.imageshack.us/img73/1322/moviezg4.jpg)

For real? Wow, I guess I was right all these years for being suspicious of that "the audio was too damaged to use" claim. I could never imagine that the movies could have been kept in any worse shape than the TV series whose audio is just fine (for it's age). It really makes Tomino look like a jackass for making that statement years ago.
Plus Buster, or someone who knows japanese, can you confirm that this product listing says it has English subtitles?

That's excellent ! no excuse for the Gundam fans not to buy it now :> i don't remember the original version of the movies but i think that only the audio (redubbed with the original seiyuu) and some of the effects is what differs from the ones made in 1999...right ?

Redubbed, newer and crappier sound effects and the score was redone with music being replaced or outright removed in comparison to the original mix. One of the most noticeable examples with regards to the replaced/removed music is in the end battle in the 3rd movie between Amuro and Char.
ObiKenobi
08-03-2007, 08:06 AM
And just to add, at least in my opinion, the new redubbing is also inferior to the original dubbing. I hadn't really noticed the differences until I was informed of them by Thanatos quite a while back about them(having not actually watched the movies for years before buying the DVD versions), but after watching the VHS version again about 8 months ago a lot of the audio differences were striking.
Like Buster, I was going to actually track down the Laserdiscs to author the DVDs with the Laserdisc audio but this saves me the trouble. Not to mention the improved video we will get from the new HD master.

Nice. I'll hold off on placing my orders for another month though. I'm sure there will be enough LE's to go around. :)

The official Kara no Kyoukai site posted a very small pic (http://www.karanokyoukai.com/news/img/080313.jpg) of the RE cover art for the first DVD.

Huh. This thread doesn't seem to get much use. Still, I didn't really feel the need to start a new one just for a single news item, sooo...
My Otome 0 ~S.ifr~ volume 2 coming on July 25 (http://www.my-zhime.net/sifr/index.html)! Huzzah! About damn time! Though really, a five-month wait isn't that bad, all things considered. I'm just impatient. With that said, I hope volume 3 is a little faster.
The CD Japan listing (http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/detailview.html?KEY=BCBA-3227) is the only one up so far.
