View Full Version : Best chase scene?

07-08-2006, 06:32 PM
What is your favorite chase scene? I have three.

1) The paper plane scene from Read or Die the oVA. This one was both fun and creative. There was not a hint of stale filler:) The 70 year old joke, Jack Benny, still worked and was fun to watch.

2) The opening to Your Under Arrest the TV series is great as well. Seeing a chase between a minibike and a civic, or close to, was fun. I think that using a chase scene to introduce people as a plot devise is the way to go:)

3) Another one for me was in Gunsmith Cats. The ending between Rally and her partner had me both wondering and on my seat when I first saw it.

The only one that sticks out in my mind is the one in Lupin the Third: Castle of Cogliostro with the car that defies gravity.

I think my favorite is from the second episode of Cowboy Bebop when everyone is trying to nab Ein.

The "Leave it to Kero" mini-movie is pretty much one big, hilarious chase scene.

THRUST VECTORING OWNZ THE SKY! TURN ON A DIME, MACROSS ZERO STYLE!!! Macross Zero vol-5. Turbo-boosted AND a Cobra Maneuver.

Macross Plus chase-scenes (vf-11b vs rogue-zentraedi, yf-21 vs yf-19) were also pretty damn sweet.

Oh, do you mean terrestrial chase only? Then...

Harima high-speed chasing Tenma high-speed chasing Karasuma, all of them on bikes in School Rumble Season-1. /images/graemlins/sdsmiley.gif

Kentaro Oe against the bike-babe in Golden Boy. Classic! /images/graemlins/tongue.gif

FMP Fumoffu, episode 2-2. The whole episode is one big chase to rush home during the lunch break to retrieve some homework left there, but then things pick up even more when it turns into a You're Under Arrest parody, complete with maniacal cops driving down the steps after Sousuke & Kaname.

One that stands out in my mind is the chase scene near the end of "Cowboy Bebop: Knockin' on Heaven's Door". Great music, exciting, and the Swordfish II is as awesome as ever.

Yeh, I'll agree with my buddy treatment on this one. Macross Plus's chase scenes are my all time favorite chase scenes. It was one of the first I saw as a anime fan, and one that I can rewatch anytime. Although treatment still owes me 11 lunches /images/graemlins/sdsmiley.gif.

As for a runner up, I really liked the recent chase scene from Black Lagoon. Everyones favorite killer maid of doom Roberta going after the Black Lagoon gang.

Honorable mention goes to

Roujin Z pretty much the whole second half where the entire police force chasing the senior's automated nurse bed. Man that was a classic.

The chase scene near the beginning of Lupin III: Castle of Cagliostro is the one that immediately springs to mind for me, too. But there are some other good ones:

Riding Bean - Bean chasing the bad guys with the cops on his tail
Giant Robo - Last episode, where Daisaku's trying to make it to Robo with all the BF agents trying to stop him
Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children - Seem to recall this having a pretty impressive motorcycle chase scene
Mindgame - The heroes being chased by the yakuza

Ranma 1/2 Movie 1: Big Trouble in Nekonron, China

Within the first 15 minutes of the movie you get a chase scene involving the ENTIRE cast of Ranma 1/2.

I know it's cliche to use this movie probably, but I'm going to have to go with the opening chase scene from Akira, where Kaneda's gang is chasing after the Clowns in downtown Neo-Tokyo. Still amazingly good animation. ^_^

I'm also a fan of the scene in Ghost in the Shell's where the Major, Batou and Togusa chase after the Dump Truck. Good times. ^^

Detective Conan Movie 4: Captured in Her Eyes, the chase scene at the end where Conan is helping Ran to escape from the murderer who wants her dead was also pretty cool to me IMO. :-P But I'm biased 'cause I love ze Conan. ^^

On that note I'm also going to throw in just about any chase scene with Conan/Shinichi chasing after the Kaitou Kid, esp. Movies 3 and 8, and the Conan vs. Kid vs. Yaiba OVA special has some absolutely priceless chases for fans of Gosho Aoyama's work! XD

And though some people might not classify it as typical "anime" because it's all CG, I gotta give some serious props to Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children's motorcycle chase scene where Cloud is chasing after Kadaj, followed closly behind by Loz and Yazoo. Great stuff. ^^

The chase scene from Dominion Tank Police with its unique anti-vehicle mines gave me a smirk and is quite memorable:)

The chase scene most memorable to me is the one at the beginning of the Galaxy Express 999 movie, as Tetsuro tries to elude the police after stealing the train pass.

I always enjoyed how director Rintaro presented that sequence. /images/graemlins/cool.gif

And the best part is, almost everyone in that chase scene is there just for the hell of it. Only like, two characters in it have an actual reason for running.

One of my favourities is Milia's Queadluun-Rau chase scene where she chases after Max at episode 18 of Macross. I'm surprised that it hasn't been mentioned before, but another favourite of mine is the chase scene from Millenium Actress which is just heartbreaking IMO.

Yeah, that was a good one. My favorite chase scene was from an episode of City Hunter (a show with plenty of them) that had a lady in a red Nissan Skyline who was a professional getaway driver. She got a crooked politician angry at her, who, with his thugs, went after her in a half-dozen huge Lincoln coupes (each of a different color). Ryo Saeba then shows up in a car just like hers to help her. High-speed pandemonium then ensued. The scene had great music as I recall, too. Awesome!

I agree - it's easily the best chase scene I've witnessed in quite a while. There's very little wrong with all the gravity defying 'martial arts' in the tunnel.

Fucking sweet!

My all time favorite is from Golden Boy episode 5. I mean it was like a third of the episode practically. And it was a bicycle chasing a motorcycle! How badass is that!

What about the Utena movie? Pink cars and naked girls in a chase scene is rather, ah, unusual.

Almost every race in Initial D? But if I had to choose, it'd be in the movie when the Takumi is drifting in the snow.

For some reason, the episode of Cowboy Bebop where Jet is chasing his ex-girlfriend's boyfriend also sticks out. The sequence really imprinted on me.

This may come off as strange, and they're not quite chase scenes, but I always enjoy the scenes in the second Pokemon movie where the three Titans are pursuing Ash / his Pokemon / Team Rocket to and from Ice Island, assisted by Lugia...I think it's Team Rocket's attempted sacrifice that punctuates the scene for me. Also, in Sherlock Hound episode 10, we see Watson & Mrs. Hudson in a car chasing Holmes and Moriarty's planes cross-country. The defining moment in that chase would be Mrs. Hudson shooting the rope connecting the planes in order to save the day.

Ghost in the Shell 2nd Gig: MAJOR SPOILERS

The final showdown in Dejima had one of the greatest chase scenes in my opinion. The Major and Batou were heading into the refugee city by helicopter when all of sudden, the unmaned black helicopters from eps 4 return to shoot them down. Batou drives the helicopter away from them but the Major falls out and holds onto a piece of long wire trying to stay aboard. She hits alot of glass windows and the helicopter makes alot of turns to throw the black helicopters off. This scene ends when the Major decides to ditch the ride, jumps off, jump from building to building trying to make a safe landing and finally move on foot. This scene also played the "Cyberbird" song once again which made this one of the most thrilling scenes in 2nd Gig.

I thought the small scene near the end of eposide 21 of GIST:SAC between the major being chased by the Drug and Narcotic Suppression Squad mecha, while trying to rescue the person how has the vaccine recipient ledger was good also.
