Otakon 2006 Gathering -Thursday Aug3rd, 9pm

Hey all, Since Otakon is coming up, I wanted to just get an early headcount and days and time for another installment of Otakon Gathering? Last year we had it at the captial city Brewery and it was good and fun so I'm planning on doing it again there! If anyone has problems I'll do the arrangments again this year. Just an early heads up thats all.

edit: tradtionally we had it on thursday night when many of us are geting our pre-reg badges and then another like sat night or so or sat afternoon for lunch. Just letting everyone know.

As of right now I got Thursday night after pre-reg.. I'll say around 9pm ish. I'll make all the calls and stuff. I'll cut this list off around tues of next week so I can call them in advance and let them know MAJOR ANIME FANS ARE COMING TO WRECK HAVOC in their place /images/graemlins/devil.gif

Well, I can definitely make the Thursday one, so count me in for that. Saturday, though, I wouldn't count on, since I'm typically in the con-run mode: running back and forth to so many things that you'll never drag me out.

IMO, I don't think any planning for a gathering on any con-day can take place until the official programming schedule is released.

As far as Thursday is concerned, it would seem fine by me just as long as any gathering takes place in the evening since badge pick-up is always a wild-card.....as I doubt I will be "in-line" until at least 5:30-6:00PM.

I'm kinda surprised that they haven't posted a dealer and industry room list yet. I know that the schedule usually isn't posted until the week before the con, but I thought that they usually had a dealers room list posted way before now.

Day before the con start is usually the best so I'm up for it on Thursday.

Hopefully registration will be as efficient as it was last year so ppl can count on not being in line for more then an hour once it starts moving. In which case I think I'll forego the Baltimore sunbathing this year & get in line a half hour after the doors open.

As much as I would like to know now I wouldn't count on any schedules or lists till within a week of the con. If you still have your pocket guide from last year I would say that %80 of those dealers listed will be back. Looking forward to the two bookstores(artbooks & magazines), Anime Palace(figures & posters), Hen da ne(hentai /images/graemlins/catgirl0.gif) & hopefully Hobbylink(more figures!). I wonder if if ADV & Bandai will have a presence this year in the industry hall.

I didn't think I would be going to Otakon, since I have my licensure exam coming up, but it's on Aug. 4. I decided now that I'm driving up to Baltimore for Otakon the day after my test, even if just one day, since I didn't book a hotel room. I may actually be able to make this gathering since I will be taking the day off before I take my big exam on Friday morning. Those who either want to meet up a bit early and/or don't know exactly where the restaurant is located, can meet at the steps to the left of the main entrance of the BCC....... and then around 9:10PM, walk over together to Capital Cities and meet up with anyone who decided to head directly to the restaurant.

Not really. No news (they said they'd be announcing the Hellsing Ultimate release date at the screening afterwards, but that was a lie), and the giveaways were based on the usual obscure trivia you'll won't get it if you haven't watched their newest shows fansubbed.

Oh, and the gathering was a lot of fun. Apparently one of my friends got inaugurated into the AOD Drinking Club afterwards, too. Kickass.

Thursday night was apparently only a warm-up. /images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Friday night was baseball, drinking and 8-ball.

Saturday night made Friday seem tame by comparison.......if only because we got to the VA uncut panel too late to get in.....as as such, went across from the CC to a bar to wait for Geneon After Dark to start.

While the panel ended around 2:30am.......the "after panel" chats didn't end until 4am or so. /images/graemlins/wink.gif

FWIW, despite drinking "a bit" on Saturday night (2 beers + 1 Irish coffee at dinner followed very closely by 1 beer mixed w/something that Shale's friend picked out, 2 straight shots of Jack and 3 shots that Guyver chose....IIRC, the last one being Cpt Morgan), I was awake around 8:30am (before either of my two roommates /images/graemlins/sdsmiley.gif ).....and with no "ill effects" whatsoever. /images/graemlins/catgirl0.gif /images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I had a blast at the gathering. We had alot of people at this year's gathering. I wonder what the Anime Expo or Comic Con Gatherings are like. I may be making that west coast trip next year to either one of those.

I had fun time at the gathering, it was nice to put faces to names. I didn't get the chance to talk to everyone, but who I did talk to were cool people. And it looks like I missed some fun times afterwards by going back to the hotel early to watch the US-Puerto Rico game. I look forward to seeing you guys again next year.
