I once had a huge collection of animted gifs from Azumanga Daioh for use with MSN Messenger, but it seems I've lost them and cannot find them again. Anyone know of any good place to find these things, because my searches don't come up with any good results.

No idea if they have the ones you need, but Danbooru (http://danbooru.donmai.us/post/list/tags/gif+azumanga_daioh/1) is always a good place to go for that kind of thing. There are some .gifs at the link there (azumanga_daiog + gif)

Intrersting. THIS (http://danbooru.donmai.us/post/view/7737) page has what looks like an alternate version of the opening where the characters bounce up and down. But they are wearing old fashioned uniforms (or middle school uniforms?).

Do anyone know where this came from?

I think it's a parody of another show. Maria sama ga Miteru maybe.... if my memory is working correctly?

That and it's tagged as such /images/graemlins/sweat000.gif Or was it not tagged when people asked? Either way, there is one for Rozen Maiden [see here] (http://danbooru.donmai.us/post/view/28492) and some other things as well. I know I've seen a Yotsubato! version, but Danbooru doesnt seem to have it. Oddly enough, neither do I... damnit.

If it was tagged when I looked I didn't see it. Which doesn't rule out anything considering how famous my observational skills are. /images/graemlins/happy.gif
