Just enjoyed rewatching Gunslinger Girl recently. If you were one of the agency's members and had to pair up to work with one of the Gunslinger Girls, which one would it be and why?

Triela Always seemed like the sharpest of the bunch to me. Sure they're all powerfull, but she seems the most *adjusted*, if you want to call it that. /images/graemlins/sdsmiley.gif

Triela.

Absolutely no contest.

Not sure who I'd vote for yet... I'm currently rewatching this series right now, actually.

I hope I'm not the only one who finds this show incredibly challenging and downright sad at times.

Right now I'm leaning towards Rico because she deserves so much better than to be treated as a machine, but I may vote Angelica too... I've actually forgotten most of her story except for at the end of the series. Angelica's story is so incredibly sad, but I feel bad for the whole bunch. This series did an amazing job of making you feel honest sympathy for all five girls.

I think it's safe to say I'd be taking Giuse's approach whoever I finally vote for!

Agreed. The other characters were good and Angelica would be a nice second place, but Triela wins it completely. She's the closest to "normal" of the girls.

Henrietta. P90s rule.

Another vote for Triela. She's smart, mature, calm, cool, and collected. Definately not the one you have to worry about failing on you at a critical moment.

I vote Henrietta. I'd see her as a little sister in the same way Jose did in the show.

I went with Rico seeing how she is the really the only one to see her sitution as a blessing instead of curse. That means as a fratello there is a chance that I won't be pulled down by the darkness of their ultimate fate. I'm not cold-hearted like Jean so this would be a worry to me.

Claes would be a close second place as she seems very smart and calm.

Triela is most likely too smart for me and I would end up viewed poorly by her.

Henreitte and Angelica both would most likely push me to suicide in the end.

But your missing one girl Elsa, I would say she would be a close third or even second pick. As I really blame her handler for her demise. Then again she was very unstable and might still lost it in the end.

Henrietta is my favorite of the girls, but for pairing purposes, I'd have to go with Triela, I think. As others have said, she seems the most capable and reliable, as well as the most independent. I'd rather have a partner than a pawn.

It's sad but it's sort of uplifting at the same time, to me anyway.

In response to the question, I do love Henrietta but I would choose Triela. Less maintenance I think.

I've always found this quote from ANN's Shelf Life reviewer to be particularly apt: "No matter how sinister they try to make things, no matter how much bloodshed they infuse into it, Gunslinger Girls [sic] can never be anything but beautiful." (Source (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/columns/ShelfLife.php?id=97).) In particular, the rooftop scene at the end of the second episode is one of the more beautiful moments I've encountered in anime.

Triela easily. Not only is she the best fighter of the girls, but she's also the most 'human' if you will. She's energetic, yet can be stern, a mother hen to all of the other girls, has a good sense of humour, can think for herself and has a cheesy (and sometimes sneaky) grin - I love that scene where she picks up Henrietta whilst the girls are singing German in the last episode .

I neglected to mention that aspect of the show, which I think the OP expresses perfectly, along with the couldn't-be-more-appropriate theme song by The Delgados... It's very sad, but there is that glimmer of hope, shown by Henrietta's tears of joy and then reaching for the sky at the end of the OP.

If this thread's still active by the time I finish the series again (which should be about a week from now) I'll have my final vote in. I'm still thinking Rico or Angelica.

Angelica... I love underdogs, especially ones as adorable as her ^^

Claes. Can't ignore a meganekko. Triela would be a close second, though.

Without a doubt, Rico.

I must add that I finished my fourth viewing of this series just tonight, prompted by this thread. Gunslinger Girl is the most beautiful anime series I've ever seen. While I do wish there were more I think the timing and stories were very well done. I can't think of a more fitting ending they could have possibly done, either. Simply beautiful. If you're on the fence with this series than you must seek it out. It's simply wonderful.

Yeah another Rico fan. Of all the girls being turned into a killer was actually an improvement in her life. And best of all she reconizes this so called blessing. Now if only she had a better "Fratello", only her bright dispostion is keeping Rico from following the same path as Elsa.

Definitely agree. Triela's the most mature and sophisticated among the girls, and I view her as the "leader" of the bunch. Plus she's a sharp dresser. /images/graemlins/sdsmiley.gif

I especially like Triela because she fully realizes what sort of situation she and the other girls are in, yet she doesn't let herself be dragged down by anything. Not a crybaby, but no obnoxiously plucky either.

And the way she's played, in the dub, by Caitlin Glass...wow. So warm and gentle.

Seeing that in poll form, it's brutal to just choose ONE . Triela is my favorite character by just a smidge, a SMIDGE! ...But I would pair with Rico. That Fratello she has now is a complete jerk, he'll ruin her or end up Elsa de Sica'd for sure. She's also the most like a little kid to me, and I would enjoy that about her.

Agree. Triela, she seems like the only one that is still 'human'. All the others are missing something.

That was the whole point of the show. The struggle of the human existence. To define themselves again after their conditioning and tampering. If all you saw were unemotional slates I feel bad for you. /images/graemlins/happy.gif

I definitely saw that in the show, which is what makes me feel so bad for all the girls. In my mind there's a parallel series where they are saved but don't have to be doing the work of the Social Welfare Agency, and can be normal girls with a better life.

I just rewatched the Prince of Pasta episode where Angelica is formally introduced, and it just makes you see how hard she is trying, despite the relative helplessness of her situation.

Hence my difficulty in deciding whether to vote for Rico or Angelica in this poll. /images/graemlins/sweat000.gif I am looking at it from an emotional level rather than an operational one.
