I'm about a dozen episodes into this show, and I just wanted know: are all the male characters supposed to be/turn out gay? /images/graemlins/stunned1.gif

By the way, is this supposed to be a yaoi show? I mean no offense to anyone, but so far this show's been really confusing.

The short answers are: no and no. Slightly longer answer: it's (mostly) a comedy and part of the humor comes from cross-cultural misunderstandings.

Really? Could've fooled me. I've been listening to the show in English, though, so I'm guessing the innuendo may be stronger there.

The male character is not gay, but because of the cultural differences in sexuality and some strange customes he ends "engaged" to a guy.

That and I think Wolfram is just too proud to decline any sort of offer. /images/graemlins/happy.gif

It's one of those series where they play with the male - male thing for fun, but not much actually happens, and where you can ignore it mostly (like, say Get Backers). Personally, I wouldn't mind Yuri a bit more amorous about his fiance, but hey, I happen to like yaoi /images/graemlins/happy.gif

The series develops some very nice and especially from episode 27 onwards some serious plotlines, so if you can live with the slightly yaoi oriented humor of the first episodes, you know what it's like in that regard, and it doesn't become more yaoi than that later on.

yeah they're all gay. Ok, I'm lying. I wish they're all gay. But you know don't you see the love Wolfram has for Yuuri and there's this thing between Gwendal and Gunter? KKM is light and there's a lack of flow. I watch it for the bishies. /images/graemlins/sdsmiley.gif

I don't think he really cared about the engagement thing at first--he seemed to think the "offer" itself was an insult (and thus he made the duel challenge). If the duel had ended without Yuri using magic, I think the subject would have been dropped. But once he saw how powerful Yuri is, he got more interested.

Regardless of Yuri's sexuality/feelings, I think it's pretty obvious that Wolfram really is in love (in his own selfish, crabby way). But it's totally played as a joke, so the yaoi-phobes don't need to worry about any kissy scenes or anything. /images/graemlins/wink.gif ("Wait. Is this a kissing book?")
