View Full Version : Les Misérables... the anime?
While browsing another forum, I came across this (http://img76.imageshack.us/img76/9311/1153834608cosettenf2hy3.jpg) . Apparently it's going to be 52 episodes long. I tried to maybe find a link or two, but I can find no other information on the project besides the said post.
Nippon Animation(Fantastic Children, Hunter x Hunter) are at the helm for this series. I've always heard of the original work, but have never actually read it heh.

Interesting. Depending on the art style I might be interested in picking it up. Gankutsuou, despite taking obvious liberties with the adaptation, was an extremely pleasant surprise for me.
Wow, I would have never thought of this novel to become an anime series. I do love the musical though so I'll give it a try when it starts airing.

Interesting... Maybe the doujin fighter (http://armjoe.hp.infoseek.co.jp/ArmJoe.htm) based on the franchise will also see renewed interest...

This is interesting. I'll definitely keep an eye out. I've never read the original novel, but I gather is one of the best classic literatures.

I'm another who has heard of the awesomeness of Le Mis but has never seen/read it yet. Count me in as interested.
Admittedly, my first thoughts on reading the thread topic was "Will it be a musical too?" Most likely not.

Hmm, interesting. I'd heard a few years back that there was a Chinese animated adaptation in prodction, but I didn't hear anything about it afterwards, so...*shrugs*

Finally, it looks like when people think about both Les Miserables and anime, the first thing that comes to mind won't be this. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eN9HCg9uBTU) /images/graemlins/sdsmiley.gif

I doubt there's going to be a musical version of this anime, but it would be interesting to see.
Either way, this sounds interesting indeed.

Count me as excited. I've always wanted to see a longer treatment of the story than you get with a movie... Wonderful news.

Why isn't Takashi Nakamura doing this show?
Stupid man. Do some more work!
I am slightly disturbed by the mutant baby Cosette with the giant broom, though. Javert and Valjean look okay, I guess.
It would be hilarious if it was the musical (the show feels long enough anyway!). I'd kill for Maaya Sakamoto to do Eponine, though...

Hmmm...Cosette's kinda weird looking, but the idea's definitely one I've knocked around for a few years, so I'll be interested to see how they approach the thing. With 52 episodes, they could certainly do a lot. It'd be great if they could keep Hugo's social ideals, outrage, and dreams as a part of the story, though I won't hold my breath. It'd also be nice if Valjean was actually presented as he is in the book, to help clear away the rather twisted version from that most recent movie adaptation (with, who...Liam Neeson?) Of course, I've read the book more times than I care to count, so I might be a little more critical of the result than I should be /images/graemlins/sweat000.gif

Been done already according to Anime Encyclopaedia. Old though.

Hmm. With something like Les, I wouldn't be surprised if it had been done. It looks interesting, and if it's going to be 52 episodes, it'll probably be epic heh. With the way Gankutsuou turned out, I have high hopes for Les.

Says it was a 1979 movie. 75 minutes. Had English, French versions.
Love that AMV. Best Macross dub...
