Interesting. Great to see Nanoha on the top ten list! I'm a little surprised that Pretty Cure is so high (but it is current I guess) and a little disappointed not to see Full Moon.

And that many people many people remember Magical Witch Sally (original from the late '60's and remake around 1990)?

I guess most people don't think of Full Moon as a magical girl anime in quite the same way as Nanoha or Sailor Moon or CCS. Personally, I see it as an idol anime first, a romance second, and then a magical girl show, I guess. It has the magical transformations and such, but it's somewhat different from the general concept of "magical girl show". That's probably enough to keep it off most lists, even if it has magical girl elements.

Nanoha is fanboy flavour of the month, and PreCure is one of the highest rating anime shows on the air. Next time one of these surveys comes round I'll be surprised if Nanoha appears.

Full Moon, on the other hand, would have barely registered a blip on the Japanese market; weekend mornings are not prime otaku watching time (Eureka 7 says hello) and it's hardly a well known property; a relatively low budget TV Tokyo shoujo anime based on a short manga by a middle-name mangaka with a band no-one's heard of before or since?

It's a classic, hence why otaku remember it. It's probably been repeated at some point, too.

And what month would that be? December 2005? Because that's when the *second* season ended, let alone the first. I can see it being temporarily boosted by being a recent show, but it's not like it just concluded last Tuesday.

CCS in 8th place, with a fairly similar ranking for Sakura-chan in other categories?? Nooooooooo!

Do not take the idiom literally. What BluWacky is saying is that Nanoha is currently the interest among otaku, it has nothing to do with a certain month.

Obviously. But it's not a very good idiom to use for a series that began almost two years ago and ended more than half a year ago.

I see a big difference between a show like that being ranked high, and a show that just ended being ranked high.

Wai, Doremi! /images/graemlins/catgirl0.gif It even beat CCS (which I'm surprised to see ranked so low.)

Happy to see Cardcaptor Sakura on list, and good that Sailor Moon is still popular (now if only Toei would allow its relicense). Them being there would be a longshot, but Magical Project S and Princess Tutu need more appreciation, too. /images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Agreed and so do Fancy Lala and Utena (if it can be classified as that...)

Have to pop in with this - from moetron:

New Nanoha Project in the Works (http://www.moetron.com/2006/07/28/new-nanoha-project-in-the-works/)

(learned of this via Matthew's Anime Blog (http://matthew.animeblogger.net/) )

Bad news is that what exactly the new project is won't be revealed 'til the end of August. Still, maybe there's hope for a third season!

I hope it's a tv series and it takes place in the future if people know what I mean. Because while loli-goodness is nice, it's time for teenage goodness. Then maybe adult goodness and nah I'm not going that far. Still in any case maybe the news of this new Nanoha project should be split from this thread and made into its own topic. That way it will be more noticeable.
