Ever find soemthing thata character does and begun to copy it yourself just as a habit? I got a couple.

I find sometimes when i'm taking a walk I hold my hands behind my head like Naruto does when he's taking a leisurely taking a stroll. The only problem is after a while i begin to feel less like a guy taking a walk and more like someone being held at gunpoint. I guess it works better for Naruto than it does for me.

Another thing i sometimes do is when i'm at school i'll hold my bookbag over my shoulder like we see a lot of high school guys do in various animes.

I also do the bookbag thing plus stare at the window most of the time looking outside or at the sky. I don't know why I do it, theres never really anything outside to look at but I can't help but look at morning sky. It just so nice to look at sometimes same goes for sundown.

I found myself doing Sakura Kinomoto's "HOEEEEEE!!!" sometimes, fortunately so far, never when anyone else was around. I also love to repeat "Mi - Mi - Mikuru Beam!"

But the main one I adopted was saying "Anta Baka!?!?" to people who do stupid stuff at work. Its great cause none of them know I am asking them if they are stupid.

I don't copy any mannerisms. In fact, I'm so cool anime characters should copy me.

It's a very Japanese thing but I first saw Tenchi do this: When he was embarrased, he would put his hand on he back of his head. I find myself doing that sometimes. I remember seeing that mannerism in the MST3K version of Prince of Space. (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0053464/)
Does anyone know where this mannerism came from?

I have to admit to doing that myself. It was the first thing that I thought of when I saw this thread.
I have also said "chii?" when I did not understand something, or wanted to pretend that I did not understand it.
And more than once I have muttered "baka!" under my breath.

But I cannot think of any physical mannerisms or gestures that I have copied. Though there are times when I would produce a big, pulsing forehead vein if I could do it intentionally.

That? I did that way before I saw it in anime. I'd occasionally do it even way back in the late 80s in elementary school. Though starting with senior year of high school I started carrying messenger style bags. I'm nearly 23 and I still carry one around all the time. I look almost like Piro in Megatokyo in that regard, but I didn't know about Megatokyo when I started so I'm not copying that. /images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I don't know of any specific anime/character mannerisms I particularly do. I'd say my mannerisms are becoming more Japanese-ish, rather than inspired by anime, over the years and when I get to Japan I see this changing more rapidly. Small blond tomboy gothish American girl turning Japanese. Who would've thought? /images/graemlins/sdsmiley.gif

That's funny. I've gotten into the habit of calling our cat "Baka Neko". /images/graemlins/sdsmiley.gif.

Ha, I do the "hands behind the head" stuff too. Either for a "casual" pose, or the one for embarrassing/confusing situations.

One of my friends has been premanently chan-ed because he has the sort of nickname that lends itself to it, so I sing-song his name in an annoying way sometimes. /images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I too use Sakura's "Hoe." Though not the suprised version of it ("Hoooeeeeee!!!")

I tend to use the short question version of it-

"Hoe?"

or the slight disapointed version of it-

"Hoeeee...."

Too much CCS back in the day I tell ya. Too much CCS.

I use "Hoe!" in all its forms, as well as "Hanyaan."

Another phrase I've picked up is Doremi's signature quote, "I'm the unluckiest girl in the whole world!"

I've actually caught myself saying "Nya!" a couple of times along with it's variations.

When I'm sweeping (with a broom) I like to say "ka-leen, ka-leen" (presumably "clean") like Lelele does in Ganso Tensai Bakabon when he's sweeping, which is all of the time.

Edit - I apologise for talking about a show that most people on this forum has probably never heard of. /images/graemlins/sdsmiley.gif

I pretend to be Sakura. I like all of her manerism. However, I will say "hai, hai" just like Tomoyo. Now that I think about it, I say a few things like Kero /images/graemlins/shy10000.gif. I think I might have some issues.

Kero-chan CHECK!!! /images/graemlins/sdsmiley.gif

I don't think there are any mannerisms I copy on a regular basis, though I have been known to say "Naa!" or "Naa?" (like Misaki Suzuhara) to myself every once in a while when the situation calls for it...

Back when GTO was coming out, both the anime and manga, I had this really bad habit of making stupid faces when things went wrong- just like Onizuka. Thankfully that has stopped.

The only other mannerism I have is the "come here" wave. My best description of it is that is the one that's the exact opposite of the typical "shoo"ing away motion.

I do the pull the eyelid stick out the tounge thing at people. I found myself bowing when appologizing. I've occasianally done the hand clap after a wish/prayer. I have put the hand behind the neck when clowning around, walked with both hands on my head (a la Sailor Jupiter), and held my umbrellas on my shoulders like I was holding a sword. Honestly, I am sure that I have picked up more weird quirks than that.

The funniest thing I have picked up from somewhere is making a dog-like noise in question form. The best example of the sound I can think of right now is Jonathan the seal making a question noise. I've done it before I saw Jonathan do it. However, my 40 year old sister started picking up the trait. Then one day she saw me watching Kaleido Star and heard Jonathan. Now we both do it constantly. It's got so bad that she has her current date making that same noise.

At least it's not just me. /images/graemlins/stunned0.gif

I tend to do the 'one hand behind the head when embarassed' gesture quite a bit. I've also just picked up general Japanese gestures (whether from anime or from 5 years of Japanese class, I don't know /images/graemlins/sweat200.gif). My instinct now is to bow to people when I meet them and whenever someone calls me, I catch myself answering "hai!" /images/graemlins/sweat200.gif

I'd prefer most anime fans to not copy mannerisms seen in anime. Unless they're parodying or doing it as a joke amongst friends.

I often chuckle nervously with a hand behind my head. And when I'm depressed, I'll walk slowly, with my hands in my pockets, looking at the ground.

Not sure if this counts, but girls seem to have the oddest fixation on me... Of course, all I can do is act like a fool.

Alright, I'll admit it: I walk slowly with my briefcase held in both hands in front of my thighs. It prevents my school skirt from flying up in the breeze--though, when I had my beard, people stared anyway...

I remember a couple more. When my glasses go down meet face I tend to push them back up on the nose piece within one finger. And when I’m bored or waiting for something while sitting at a table sometimes I’ll put my hands together put my elbows on the table and put my face against my hands all mysterious and menacing. Yup I’m becoming Gendo Ikari

Ah, yes, I do the Gendo look sometimes, but it doesn't work quite as well with me, as I don't wear glasses.

I actually had outlook play "Anta Baka" on incoming email, but I found it was a distraction for the co-workers, so stopped.

Mostly I find myself making gestures that people don't understand, like the "never mind" and "shoo" gestures. I also sometimes do the "hi" and "sorry" gestures. I'm constantly fighting the urge to answer co-workers in Japanese, either with a "Nani?" when they want something, or a "hai hai" when I just want the task they just assigned to me to go away.

Of source, I'm also pretty good at coming up with obscure references to different anime that the straights at the office don't understand, but my fellow otaku sometimes get.

I'm particularly fond of my snipe about how "they do that in alchemy training" when a co-worker was saying that he thought it would make "Survivor" more interesting if they dropped the contestants off on an island with an insane maniac for a month... I actually kudos for that one.

Those, and or course fighting over the legendary cutlet sandwich from the bread vendor at lunch time...

I find myself saying "oro?" from time to time.

I also point to my nose instead of my chest when I'm pointing my myself in a manner that suggests "Me?"

I hate that I picked this up, but I usually, when holding my purse (or whenever), hold it with my hand and arm facing up and my hand in a fist, which is a very feminine gesture I've seen in anime.

I have also from time to time been tempted to bow or smile with my eyes shut. I've even pointed at my nose/forehead instead of at my chest (you know, that "Who, me?" silent question), which I'm told is a Japanese thing.

This isn't really from an anime, but after knowing Monica for years I picked her disposition for saying "Yay!" when stuff happens.
