Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha, project #3

From SpoilerHappy via Matthew's Anime Blog via Moetron, we have this post--here-- (http://forums.animeondvd.com/showthreaded.php?Cat=&Number=1396762&page=&view=&s b=5&o=&vc=1) about an upcoming Nanoha project. It looks like what it is will be revealed at the end of August. I'll probably die if it's just an OVA or something equally disappointing.

At any rate, this is the first official confirmation of an addition to the Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha franchise, so as Anri Misugi suggested (http://forums.animeondvd.com/showthreaded.php?Cat=&Number=1397175&page=&view=&s b=5&o=&vc=1), it probably deserves it's own thread. There won't be much of anything concrete to add until the details are announced, but if anyone wants to discuss, feel free.

If we get the third TV series we all want to see, I'm going to be rediculously happy. The news was even more amazing given the fact that I had JUST finished rewatching seasons 1 and 2 the day before (marathoned a season a night). Talk about timely.

Fate's is fine, in fact her's will automatically be 100% better with an adult body in it.

Nanoha's needs some work, maybe she can get Hayate to redesign it for her.

They are the same pictures that have been around since the end of last season. The nanoha one is the one featured in the preview article above, I'm guessing that we are getting a continuation of the now mature cast. Per Matthew in a comment in the Shoutbox on his blog (http://matthew.animeblogger.net/), Moonphase (http://d.hatena.ne.jp/moonphase/20060730#p1) says it's going to be an OVA focusing on Hayate, to be released this winter. (I don't read Japanese, so I can't verify that's exactly what the Moonphase link says, but I'm assuming Matthew knows what he's talking about.)

Sigh, I'm still hoping for a third season, but I'll take anything I can get....

Be it OVA or 3rd TV series, I think we'll all let out a collective squeal if they follow up on the images of <span style='color:#dddddd;background:#dddddd'> the girls grown up they depicted </span> at the end of the last season. I'm glad for any continuation regardless of what it is though really.

An Hayate focused OVA would get a bit a "meh" from me, Hayate wasn't really that interesting a character, especially since her only distinguishing charateristic got healed away at the end of A's.

Well being an OVA may be a bad thing or it may not be. The reason I say may is it really depends on the type of story they are trying to tell, how long each episode is and how many episodes they have. I do prefer TV series, but OVAs are not the end of the world.

Plus even if we are getting an OVA now, we may still get a third TV series later. Perhaps they're using the OVA to flesh out Hayate while keeping Nanoha the main focus for the TV series. Even if Nanoha in both seasons has boiled down to being a really violent therapist. /images/graemlins/sdsmiley.gif

That's a good point. We may get an OVA and a TV continuation for all we know. I think the main disappointment lies in the fact that since this particular project is an OVA it means the earliest we would probably see a new tv show would be this winter or next spring. It'd have to be in planning by now to make it in time for winter even and news would probably have leaked.

Besides there will be other shows for you to watch while you wait for more Nanoha TV. Actually, it would be nice to see what they do with the increased animation budget that will come with making an OVA. Maybe they will have more scenes like the one from the dining room table in the first season.

You mean one of the two or three scenes in the first episode that looked horribly awkward, as if the animators were crazy drunk? They twitched and moved all over in ways that looked like they were going for "fluid" but instead they ended up with "unholy abomination". And the way they overdid the details in the clothing and all totally backfired and had the opposite effect...

It was just so bad, and I was quite relieved to see the animation to go back to normal soon after. If it stayed like that I probably never would have lasted more than three episodes. I have to wonder who they dumped that part of the episode on, and why it looked so completely different from the rest.

The reason why I think those scenes failed was because they only did them half-heartedly. If they have the right budget, they would be able to smooth out the animation and get everything looking good.

Perhaps, but I just fundamentally disliked the style, I think. Extra lines of detail are great and all, but not inherently. It was too busy looking, and their inability to stop moving at any point also was problematic. I don't doubt that they could make some nicer animation with an OVA, but I thought the series looked rather good as it was.

My guess this season will contain a story that involves some mission Nanoha and Fate went on during <span style='color:#dddddd;background:#dddddd'>the time jump </span> and it turns out whatever they thought they took care of came back. Hey, this is just a fan's guess.

Speaking of the OVA, I honestly do not think the Hayate OVA should take place in the err future. That should be reserved for a season 3 instead. Rather the Hayate OVA should take place in the present. Why? So this way they can focus on the <span style='color:#dddddd;background:#dddddd'>activation of Reinforce II as well as Hayate truly coming to terms with her situation as it is now.</span>

Okay so much for that idea, but then again it's not like an event being covered by drama CDs prevents an anime version. Or wait maybe it does for all I know. As for Vita, well any Hayate focus will probably include some focus on Vita and crew anyway. Just how much I'm not sure yet.

Though I'm not privy to the details, there's a pattern of shows that end up widescreen and which don't. I think it has to do with what network it airs on. For example, whether it was carried by satellite or not. Some of these broadcasters have probably switched over to HD somewhat and some haven't and if they're involved with the production of a series they'll no doubt have a preference depending upon which aspect they're still using.

I can't help but notice that lots of the low budget fanservice shows always seem to get the 16:9 treatment while higher budget shows that would seem more suited to widescreen end up 4:3 a lot still. Kyoto Animation being the most obvious exception of course.

I don't think anyone knows. I theorized that "A's" was a pun in English, and should be read as "Ace," to suggest Nanoha had mastered her magical girl skills. Of course, then she got the crap beat out of her in the first episode.

Of course, in games "S" is the rank that's higher than "A," so maybe that's what they're going for....

Worst case scenario it's a short OVA that isn't about Hayate at all and simply tries to introduce a new story. I say worst case delicately though since anything Nanoha related is great regardless. I fear the show's somewhat limited appeal is going to make chances of an R1 license slim though.

In other words the OVA turns out to be an over blown "ad" for the 3rd season. Still hopefully that won't be the case. Still come to think of it. Besides an OVA based on Hayate, I'd like to see one based on Yuuno (spelling). Since if I remember right, he was the previous owner of Raging Heart. So he must have made some use of it. Or maybe not and all he did was carry it around saying "Is that girl pretty enough? What about that one? Why do I have to carry around a lesbian device?" Naaaaaaaaah.

In terms of the Sonic and Mario thing. They both probably suffer from it. It's just that Mario came to mind more easily for me. As for the Fate thing. Well there is nothing saying a Fate OVA has to be a prequel to the first season. Same could be said for any OVA focused on a specific character. Of course I'm sure if the Hayate OVA is actually made it will at least take place before season 3.

How do these remix collection work? Is it just with different music or do they hire the singers back to perform those songs again? Sorry if my question sounds dumb, I never bought a remix album before.

For this particular remix album, they changed the style of the music and had the seiyuu re-sang them.

Given the pattern set by the first two seasons, I would not be surprised. Of course the question is what angle are they going to give her? So she won't just be a rehash of Fate or Hayate. Either way Hayate must now realize just like Fate, she'll soon be an apprentice to the ultra violent therapist Nanoha. What?

The Nanoha merchandises are Comiket limited, so no, you won't be able to buy them outside of Comiket, save for going through unofficial means such as online auctions. To those unfamiliar to the culture this might seem strange, but if you know how Comiket works and how easily otakus are drawn in by "limited editions" and "limited releases", then it's not weird at all. /images/graemlins/happy.gif

Booth space at Comiket is a premium, most booths are only of about 3x5 square metres in space, and when you consider that Comiket now attracts upwards of a few hundred-thousand attendees, even if only 10% of the people want your merchandise, that's still a lot of demand to satisfy. Just imagine trying to stock a few thousand pieces of t-shirts in such a small space and you'll quickly realise why they don't (can't) have that much stock, not to mention things such as huge pillows (even though they're air-compressed to save space). /images/graemlins/wink.gif In the case of Nanoha, the demand just greatly exceeds what they are able to supply (note that this also happened at Comiket 69, where they sold out most of the goods and the lines for the goods was 3 hours long!).

Ah, but Hayate already has her own harem. Of course then again she's going to need to increase the size of her harem. No way a two-bit punk like Wataru is going to hava harem larger than Hayate.
