OK, I was reading the T.H.E.M. Anime review for this OAV, and they unofficially rated it NC-17 for sex: http://themanime.org/viewreview.php?id=269. They also called it "softcore porn". Uh... what? There's nothing remotely adult about the OAV. We see, at most, five seconds of Kei and Mizuho having sex for the first time, but it's VERY nonexplicit and we don't see any breasts or genitalia.
Any idea why they would rate it that? Usually they're spot on with the general rating they assign to something (based on content), but this seems way off.

well i dont know about nc-17...
but they did go to a love hotel and kei was tied up by his mother in law and on the bed...
there is more flesh than the tv series, but i wouldnt call it nc-17, at worst mpaa rating would be a R. nc-17 is just shy of x-rated stuff adult hentai porn.
They're seriously exaggerating. The innuendo is fun and mostly innnocent and the whole episode is pretty lighthearted. It's just a fun side episode to have fun with the characters. There's nothing inappropriate in the episode for anybody over the age of 12 IMO.

BTW: I can't remember which episode, but it's one of the early ones when kei was helping kazami move boxes into her place. A box tipped over and it's was 'mosaiced' out. Was there suppose to be something naughty in that box?
Thanks

[/ QUOTE ] US/MPAA ratings when it comes to sex have never made sense to me anyway /images/graemlins/wink.gif.
As a point of order though, it isn't the first time. It's heaveily implied that it's back in ep 7 or 8, when Mizuho invites Kei to share the same futon for the first time, and failing that, the OVA ep itself says so, both from the mother/daughter chat between Mizuho and her mother, and the spy sat memory chips sub plot.

The "mosaic" was in the original broadcast of the show too, that wasn't something that was just done for our sensitive eyes. The gag was that it was left up to your imagination what was in the box- sex toys, lingerie, Hello Kitty personal massager, whatever... /images/graemlins/sdsmiley.gif

[/ QUOTE ] Diff'rent strokes, I guess. Personally, after I've watched an anime and then read their reviews about it, I've agreed with them the majority of the time. There were only a few instances where I felt they were way off base or didn't give something a fair chance.
I'd say it probably had more to do with the 2 supporting characters (forget their names at the moment) who wind up in the hotel while the class is on the trip. Nothing explicit but the implication is obvious and both are technically under aged characters. Some people really freak at the idea of teenagers and sex as if it would never occur to a 17 year old unless they saw it on TV first. /images/graemlins/stunned0.gif

Maybe this is just me, but why would you read a review about a series after you've watched it? You've got your own opinion at that point and I can't see the usefulness of validating it with someone else's "professional" review. Heck, I don't find reviews useful even as a preview tool anymore.

[/ QUOTE ] It's not so much a matter of insinuating that my opinions are inferior to "professional" reviewers and that they need to be validated by reading them, but that I'm interested to see if we're on the same wavelength. It's no different than asking friends if they liked a certain movie. It's not that you're going to flat out change your opinion if they hated it and you liked it, but that you want to know their viewpoint and maybe even debate with them if the opinions clash.

Then it's definitely me because I never liked discussing movies with friends either. /images/graemlins/sdsmiley.gif
