Rescued this one from fleaBay, surprisingly enough. That makes a grand total of two Nanami OVA cels there over the past two years I've been looking.

I'm surprised you can find anything on eBay - I pretty much gave up looking there a long time ago. Unfortunately it seems like half the cel listings are junk cels being resold from YJ auctions at twice their original price.

And because there needs to be more cels in this new thread, I scanned some! I'm only lazy some of the time, after all.

I'm not sure if it's just that nothing good is out there right now or if I'm just tired of emptying my wallet on a daily basis.

Maybe by tomorrow I will be sufficiently motivated to put up a few more scans at least. Just don't expect too much from the next set. There are a few "why's?" in the backlog. /images/graemlins/wink.gif

Ok, it's time for me to get some of these out of the way. I will preface this update, by calling it the "Unknown Update." I have to shake my head a bit at the fact that I don't know any of these characters. My first guess says that the is a first kiss type situation, but I'm probably way off base... I think it's the best of this bunch in any event.

Ifurita (http://falcon.rubberslug.com/gallery/inv_info.asp?ItemID=174658) - another overpriced Ifurita that I added to my collection. Is she really that much better than, say, Sylia? I guess I still don't fully understand the Japanese market.

I can't figure out the crazy prices either. Ifurita cels typically run 2-3x as much (or more) than any other character, yet she's in over half of the series so cels can't be that rare and I'm not sure she's so much prettier or iconic to merit such a massive markup. It's a mystery to me.

Its not that I misplaced it - it was in my stack of unscanned hankens, tho in the same bag with the one I just posted so it wasn't real obvious. The quest for boobies

The previous female rulers of her nation had always been well endowed in that area and she felt that she needed to live up to the expectations. So she began her search for a way to increase her size. In the nearby village lived a mystic goddess Belldandy (http://ai2.rubberslug.com/gallery/inv_info.asp?ItemID=176417)who praised Lafiel for pursuing her noble quest, but could not help her. The Goddess told her to seek out the Oracles that dwelled in the land far to the East. The land to the East was well inside of the enemy’s territory, and would be difficult to infiltrate. Determined to fulfill her quest, Lafiel (http://ai2.rubberslug.com/gallery/inv_info.asp?ItemID=176424) dressed as a commoner to blend in with the locals and she quickly pressed on through the enemy’s territory avoiding detection. After days of travel, she came to the temple of the Oracles Tiara and Lena (http://ai2.rubberslug.com/gallery/inv_info.asp?ItemID=176416) who had been given the powers of universal knowledge. “Seek out the planet of the large breasted women and you will find what you seek,” was all the Oracles would say.

Upon returning to her homeland, Lafiel thought about how she would travel to the planet of the large breasted women. The cost of hiring a ship and crew, and paying for expenses put her into a deep slump. A voice came echoing from above, "Lafiel I am your Father (http://ai2.rubberslug.com/gallery/inv_info.asp?ItemID=176553)and you are a princess with a fleet of spaceships, traveling to this planet of breasted women you desire to go travel too, is easy for you."
Upon hearing this voice, from the next room Duhiel (http://ai2.rubberslug.com/gallery/inv_info.asp?ItemID=176552) came running into the room. "Sister" can I go with you to the planet of the large breasted women. Please!"
"Sorry my brother, I can not take you to this planet as you are too young," and Lafiel left to make the preparations for her flight.
A few hours later Jinto (http://ai2.rubberslug.com/gallery/inv_info.asp?ItemID=176550) , Lafiel's "friend," shows up wanting to talk to Lafiel about her reasons for wanting to travel to this planet. Little is known about what happened afterwards, and few really care, but Jinto is never seen again.

Back in the previous thread, Natsume Maya mentioned that he saw an Eva cel of Misato (the naked version tempting Shinji in his dreams) go for almost JPY450000 at a Mandarake auction.

What I didn't realise until I checked just now (because I got the latest Mandarake email advertising the next Big Auction) is that finally, I saw a cel go for more than 1 million yen.

Of course, it's a Totoro cel, but I didn't think it'd be this one (http://ekizo.mandarake.co.jp/auc_e/itemInfo.do?itemId=03000979330100002) /images/graemlins/stunned0.gif

In fact, it went for closer to 2 million yen! A couple of people must have got all het up about this. I have been keeping my powder dry for when a cel comes up (as it must eventually) of the bus stop scene, but now I'm worried. Mandarake auction bidders get plenty het up and the cels generally sell for super inflated prices.
I generally don't participate in Mandarake BIG auctions unless I am willing to die in the ditch for the cel.

These two are interesting because the first one doesn't actually "exist" in the show as seen in the cel. They're part of the same sequence where she's gliding into frame from the viewer's right, but the big cameraman in the foreground completely obscures her in that particular onscreen frame.

These two also mark the first sequence where Nanami's face appears onscreen - ever. It's also one of the few instances where she's wearing the Shinonome high school uniform in the OVA series. Almost all other instances of it are from the Wanderers.

Oh, and they also had some fierce trapped moisture. Oddly, though, the first one had lots of moisture trapped outside of the painted areas. That was one of the easiest ones to fix I've had. Too bad the second four layer monster wasn't so easy...

I spent about half an hour carefully wedging a strip of paper between all four layers to clean it out and make it presentable. It's the sort of thing that makes me appreciate a good single layer cel.

I must be developing a reputation. Some anonymous fellow found my Rubberslug gallery and asked me to make an offer on a Nanami Alternative World ED cel out of the blue. Has this sort of thing happened to anyone else?

It's a nice cel and I'm in a bit of a lull so it seemed like a good opportunity, at least at first. Alternative World cels have generally fallen on the cheap side; Animaxis still has a pile of them in the 2-5k range and YHJ has them even cheaper. Even AW OP cels are only about 3k right now. But I wanted the cel and felt like putting OVA-caliber resources at it, so I offered double that.

I might've offended him.

I got an email to the effect of "no thanks" and another that he'd paid over 3× that much for it originally. I don't have the heart to tell him there's no way he'll get that much for it now, so I haven't emailed back. (Hopefully he doesn't read AoD) :sd:

I had someone (on RS) ask me if I was interested in some Nadesico cels he had up for sale. I decided to ask what his expectations were before making any offers. I'm glad I did. Otherwise, my offers would have certainly offended him. Once I found out his original purchase price, it was thanks but no thanks. It's hard to believe that he paid that much, but then I've bought some in that range and am already wondering why in some cases.

Maybe some tend to use Cons to gauge prices. I bought all of 2 cels at the last AX, but then I was laughing at most of the prices.

I think that collectors basically have to be realistic - we buy the cels not because they are a store of value.... But, cuz we wants pretty pix... :D

it always annoys me when ppl put something up for offer and fully expect to get what they paid even if they paid when the market for that cel/show was high *and* they overpaid at the time. and then when you offer in the current market price (or with a premium) they get annoyed that it's 'low'.

I'm all about the pretty pix. :D I have no delusions about how much my painted acetate collection is really worth should I actually try and sell it, so I just assumed some random internet guy who wanted an offer was the same way. But if I ever come across another, I'm definitely going to inquire about a ballpark figure first to avoid any mishaps.

Umi - MKR (http://falcon.rubberslug.com/gallery/inv_info.asp?ItemID=192164) - this is a fan-art cel, my apologies to Gabriel, but I just love how the hair looks.

Misato - NGE (http://falcon.rubberslug.com/gallery/inv_info.asp?ItemID=192165) - this is a repro cel that someone also advised against me getting, but here it is. It's nice to have a cel of Misato, even if it is a repro.

These are my only two fan-art/repro cels, so don't worry about seeing too many more.


Clotho - Five Star Stories (http://falcon.rubberslug.com/gallery/inv_info.asp?ItemID=192161) - This one is definitely not a repro or a fan-art cel... just ask my wallet. I wanted at least 1 cel from FSS. So few are available since only 1 short movie was made. It is mostly a manga series, but I very much like the character designs, even though the story is completely befuddling. I did make another gradient, but it is an alternate picture.

As for the Misato cel, I was advised to wait for a real one. However, I don't think I have looked at any Eva cels since I got this one. As such, it doesn't seem to be a priority for me to up the ante on Eva cels for a real one. It seems I am avoiding Sailor Moon cels in a similar manner, among other series.

Right now I just don't have the enthusiasm to continue to update my site. Much like I have always told other people concerned about how no one is visiting their cels or visiting the "wrong" ones...one should, first and foremost, post cels to your gallery to make yourself happy, and not worry what anyone else thinks. Well, due to various reasons my gallery has not brought me any joy as of late, so I have simply stopped updating. Not that I am not buying new cels - tho not at the same rate as before. I am just not feeling the need to post them online. Later this may change. Or it may not.

I seem to update my cel gallery about once a year. Then again, I don't buy many...

Most of the cuts have Japanese comments in pencil on them, with Korean translation in pen nearby. So I assume the genga were drawn in Japan and then sent to Korea for the douga to be produced.
