I just finished this show. When I first started watching this show, it seemed to me like two different shows. On one hand we had some military and political maneuvering going on. On the other hand, we had some ecchi and lots of yuri situations. The yuri harem featured BTW has to be the biggest one ever - one that even My:Hime's Shizuru would be envious about.

Half-way though, it made a sudden change. While I'm not too fond of the Zipang/Silent Service elements, I liked it when they focused on the love triangle. I was kind of disappointed that the yuri elements got shafted to the background though. /images/graemlins/depresse.gif It had to be one of the most unpredictable love triangles ever because honestly, I had no idea which girl he would pick in the end. And luckily, the male lead showed how decisive he was with his feelings.

I'm however disappointed at some things. The problem now is the 6 month time lapse. We, the audience are asked to imagine and assume what exactly happened. Looking at the way Nanaha kept refering to Hyosuke as her brother and the non-romantic way which she woke him up, I'm guessing that the relationship didn't work because she didn't want her romantic feelings to interfere with her responsibilities as a captain. It would have been better had they shown this. It would also have been good if we were shown that Tsubasa was aware of this and we were shown Tsubasa telling Hyosuke that knowing this, she has decided not to give up and continue pursuing him. Had they shown these scenes, this could have been one of my favorite anime for the year. Because frankly without showing anything, it seemed like a cheap way to reset the relationships to zero and start all over again.
Also I don't quite understand the villains. The two lesbo sisters just suddenly disappeared from the story and just suddenly reappeared in the last episode. Also the main villain has to be one of the most androgynous characters ever - half the time I wasn't even sure of the villain's gender.I'm still not too clear on the villains' motives though. Also, what's up with the girl from the ED animation every episode? What's her role?

Anyhow doesn't anyone else think that Nanaha Misaki has to be one of the hottest female characters ever? /images/graemlins/sdsmiley.gif BTW, does the DVD version have extra animation scenes added? It's kind of hard to see through the steam. Screenshots would be appreciated. /images/graemlins/shy00000.gif

Anyone else seen this? Thoughts especially on the love triangle would be appreciated.

I don't know where you got the relationship at the end of the show didn't work. Nanaha became honest with her feelings for Hyosuke. That is what was causing all her problems, not accepting them because she wanted to keep him as her brother. That is why the ship got wasted after the incident in the island happened, this is where she asked him what she was to him, she was jealous. Once she accepted her feelings and once Hyosuke confessed to her, she was able to concentrate in her work. Neither her not Hyosuke gave up for their feelings. Maybe you think the relationship didn't work because hoysuke left, but this was because he had to go back to the company, he came back to continue where they left. He had left and came back a second time at the end of the last episode.

I am pretty sure that was her old self, I am pretty sure they end together somehow. The fact she woke him up that way can tell you about their relationship. It has been a while since a watched the show and I don't have it available anymore. I was hoping that they ended together, so when the show ended I was satisfied. They are just taking their time because she wants to concentrate in her career first, but she didn't reject him when he confessed to her. Like you said he was gone for 6 month to the main company, so they had to start slowly. That is why he turned Tsubasa down and why Tsubasa gave up when she saw them together. The end lets a lot to interpretation, because we never see them kiss besides the accident, but she was jealous of him and she won't let him share a room with anyone besides her. Doesn't matter how overprotective of a sister if she really want to let him go she could let him have his old room or let him share a room with other of the girls.:)

I don't think Tsubasa gave up completely. You can see from the last episode where initially they wanted her to go to parties to meet other guys but once Hyousuke reentered the picture, she had her heart still fixated on him.

Ok man I got some good news for you, they removed the steam in the DVd scenes. Also you were wrong about any reset in the relationships. I finally rewatched this and you misunderstood something at the end of the episode. Those scenes that they show at the end are all in the past. When I answered this thread It had been a long time since I had watched the series and I didn't watch the closing ending for the last episode. So when they show Hyousuke being awaken by Nanaha it is in the past not after the end of episode 13. You will noticed that they show only things from the past. So yes Nanaha called him his little brother when her best friend asked her what was him to her, but she didn't lied to her, because effectively he is her little brother and she didn't use TADA in front ototou like she did the first time, she didn't tell her he is also the man she loves. If you check at the end of episode 13, Nanaha's friend told her that she had changed, that she have been Sad. She doesn't deny it and she admits she is sad because hyousuke is gone. When hyousuke returns she changed her mood to being happy, and she even giggles when she answers her friend question. Her friend comments how very complicated, by the fact she didn't tell her the whole truth. The fact that Hyousuke declined Tsubasa is proof that Nanaha returned Hyousuke feelings after he confessed to her. Nanaha and hyousuke end romantically involved. When Tsubasa returns from her 3 month training, and her crewmates welcome her back, they begin to talk about getting her a new love. the reason Hyousuke is gone is because he was called back to do research and even though Nanaha is sad she understand. So no, they don't end as brother and sister, even though Nanaha is still trying to hide it from everyone.

He couldn't stay too long away from her either as he requested to stop his research to return to the ship. The fact that Nanaha calls hyousuke by his first name in front of her friend tells you that she has loosened up. The fact that Tsubasa and hyousuke didn't kiss when he was falling is symbolic that there is nothing between them. I love the Scene when nanaha and Hyousuke first met, how she told him that from now on when he say I am back, she will tell him Wellcome back. Blushing little Hyousuke was cute, no wonder she fell for him.

It had been a long time since I watched this show for the first time, I had to watched the last 3 episodes raw and My Japanese was not very good back then. I watched the DVD version of the show with scripts and it gives you a very good understanding for the plot.

Edit:
If you get a chance, watch the preview at the end of episode 12. Hyousuke has a little monologue about how even after all the time and travels his feelings have not changed.

That reminds me. I need to rewatch this as I was still puzzled by the ending. Anyhow, while all the tactical battles bored me, the relationships were some of the best parts of the show. That and the blatant girl-girl subtext scenes. /images/graemlins/shy00000.gif

So with the steam removed, do we see any detailed nudity? /images/graemlins/shy00000.gif Screenshots would be deeply appreciated.

Yeah, I watched this mostly for the relationships. Like I said when I watched the last 3 episodes it was a long time ago, they were raw, and my Japanese comprehension was not that good. I also didn't watched episode 13 ending because I thought it was the same as the other 12 episodes. this time I watched to the end so I noticed what you mentioned about the waking up scene. I also didn't pay much attention to the battles. I was mistaken, there is some fog on Tsubasa when she is in the shower. /images/graemlins/sad.gif I wish I still had the TV version to compare but it seems like they removed the fog from the other girls but not tsubasa.

Anyway, Nanaha finally got what she wanted, and was able to move on with her feelings. It would have been so easy if damn Hyousuke had told her he loved her in episode 9, he ended doing it in episode 11 anyway. The way I see it, neither one wanted to say it first, but Hyousuke was forced to say it in episode 11. When you rewatch this, check the comment from Tanya (finally learned her name) about Nanaha being very complicated in episode 13. Nanaha short of confessed to her that she liked Hyousuke in episode 9. I also didn't know that Tanya actually knew that they are not real siblings, so Tanya know the deal, but she is not telling the crew.
