Sometimes thing go wrong for anime characters, when they aren't meant to. Either personally, generally due to errors or circumstances beyond their control. Tragic, comic & unexpected.

What are the best "owned"/pear-shaped/gone tits-up moments in anime?

Please say characters, show & circumstances. Any caps are cool.

It would help if you gave an example first.

Pear-shape? gone-tits-up? What?

So you mean "Natsuki Crisis" moments?

I understand what the phrases mean, but I am not quite sure I know exactly what you're getting at.

Do you mean an event where the character was expecting one thing, but things turned out very differently?
Perhaps like Tsubasa in H&amp;HC(KareKano), where she <span style='color:#dddddd;background:#dddddd'> rips apart and tosses Miyazawa's picture into the trash incinerator</span> and instead of simply annoying Yukino <span style='color:#dddddd;background:#dddddd'>she unleashes a demon from Hell </span>?
Or, in Azumanga Daioh, when Tomo is chasing Yomi around the lunchroom, and thinks she has her cornered, but <span style='color:#dddddd;background:#dddddd'>then actually hits Yukari walking in through the door and Yukari then proceeds to whack the living daylights out of her </span>

Do you mean things like those?

I'm not sure what you are getting at about "tits up" but if you want to share some screenshots of some tits going up, you are most welcome to do so. /images/graemlins/sdsmiley.gif /images/graemlins/shy00000.gif

I got one that is actually TWO, TWO, TWO PWNZOR MOMENTS IN ONE: End of Evangelion: <span style='color:#dddddd;background:#dddddd'>Asuka ripping the Eva series apart before her power runs out, then them returning the favor </span>.

One of my very favorite moments of the entire anime, and probably part of the reason why I HAD to find the manga version. I was sort of hooked on the story from the beginning, but this was just completely awesome. And the effect that the sequence had on the other girls, and ultimately Maho... Could Yukino be any more scary?!?

How about in Hyper Police where Natsuki catches a big bounty, only to find out <span style='color:#dddddd;background:#dddddd'>that the company has went bankrupt, and the creditors are taking everything, even the groceries that she had bought earlier.</span>

Been thinking of Hirotaka Suzuoki today since he passed away, and I was reminded of how bad Saitou owned <span style='color:#dddddd;background:#dddddd'>Sanosuke</span> the first time he showed up out of nowhere in disguise in Ruroni Kenshin. Served up a can of whoop-ass, he did.

A situation goes awry, out of control, or turns bad unexpectedly.

Tragic example is Akane's battle in My-Hime, <span style='color:#dddddd;background:#dddddd'>where her "child" mecha is destroyed &amp; her boyfriend then de-materialises, though she won her battle.</span>

Mod Edit: The series name should be outside of the spoiler tags

Surely there's a time in Slayers when someone "discovers" rather abruptly that Lina Inverse is capable of casting Dragon Slaves... &lt;EG&gt; (It's been a while since I've seen the series, so I can't name a particular incident.)

Fixed it for you - I was expecting a Ranma 1/2 pratfall /images/graemlins/depresse.gif.

I know I've seen a lot worth mentioning, but when you NEED to remember it... /images/graemlins/anger100.gif

Still, that mention of Kenshin reminds me of all the filler episodes, when cheesy bad guy #1 always goes,"Look at this skinny little wimp! Let's Get'm!" ....then ends up with his head stuck through the ceiling(e.g.). I loved those scenes! /images/graemlins/cry00000.gif

Ah, I remember one. When the Cold Blooded Killer in Noir <span style='color:#dddddd;background:#dddddd'>sells out her employers, then Chloe comes along and bursts her bubble.</span> /images/graemlins/catgirl0.gif

Not quite as fun, in Lost Universe when Millie <span style='color:#dddddd;background:#dddddd'> gets dumped from the crew by Kain to "protect her", and she goes back to her old apartment, now completely empty. Penniless, no job, debts up the wazoo, and your friends just dumped you. </span> Rock bottom!

Actually, that was pretty awful... /images/graemlins/cry00000.gif

One of the greatest scenes ever! Elevated Kenshin from meh to masterpiece in my mind... /images/graemlins/sdsmiley.gif

There's a scene near the end of Berserk, when Guts and crew are <span style='color:#dddddd;background:#dddddd'>entering the dungeon to rescue (what's left of) Griffith, when the "dungeon master" guy locks Guts &amp; Co. in a cell. He then proceeds to taunt them, saying something to the effect of "blah blah blah...this door is 8" thick and made of solid oak, you'll never be able to break through it, you'll rot in the cell, blah blah blah". </span>

Yeah, <span style='color:#dddddd;background:#dddddd'>he doesn't even get to finish his sentence before Guts busts through the door with his sword, impales the guy, and sends him falling down a huge stairwell pit. </span> PWNED, anyone?

Perhaps we have different classifications of 'owned', but I've got two:

You got Tolled (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v412/mamartin/1094499832959.jpg) (Gundam SEED)
Alex Rowned!!!!1 (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v412/mamartin/lastexileowned.jpg) (Last Exile)

No, no, no! The sweetest-titted/best-owned Berserk scene is where Guts, <span style='color:#dddddd;background:#dddddd'>with no available sword options, grabs Griffiths sword with his teeth, blood all spurting out of his mouth, and says somthing to the effect of "You talk too much, use your mouth for something better"</span>--I'm still waiting for that one to be topped. /images/graemlins/catgirl0.gif /images/graemlins/cool.gif

My favorite Slayers moment has always been at the start of the first movie <span style='color:#dddddd;background:#dddddd'>a group of bandits decide to attack Lina. She completely ignores them and draws a circle and walks away as she says Fireball.</span> It is a typical Lina moment but it's my favorite because the first movie was my first exposure to Slayers and Lina.

That reminds me of almost every time Inuyasha gets in Kagome's face, and she just says "sit". Talk about being totally and completely owned...

My favorites are always when you put a little girl up against the BIG bad guy, only to find out that the "little girl" has some aweful power. Thoughts of Miyu, who almost always dispatches her opponents without effort. But, you should never underestimate vampire girls. NEVER!
