Death Note and Ghost Hunt to be animated...

Hey folks, the new Animage is reporting TV series announcements for both "Death Note" and Fuyumi (12 Kingdoms) Ono's "Ghost Hunt". I know nothing of Ghost Hunt, but I love 12 Kingdoms to death, and am quite interested in this project.

Anyway, let the rejoicing, theorizing, hoping, complaining about the lack of more 12 Kingdoms, and whatever else commence. /images/graemlins/sdsmiley.gif

Yeah, I heard about "Death Note" being made into a TV show awhile back....but my love for it didn't form until I read the manga. /images/graemlins/catgirl0.gif

Can't wait to see it because I'm sure that it will be brought into Region 1, hopefully Geneon will pick it up as they have been picking up some Madhouse shows. I mean, I like its chances of it being here due its being animated by Madhouse and its safe to say that "Death Note" is popular here in anime fandom. /images/graemlins/happy.gif

Yeah, I cannot wait for the anime series to start. The manga quickly shot to my all time favourite behind One Piece after about 3 chapters.
I'm hoping for a 52 episode series or 39 at least. There's not that much manga to cover, but it would suck for certain parts to be rushed etc.

I have a feeling that they will keep things faithfully to the manga (I mean, what can they make up other than a different ending?). My guess is that it will be a 12 or 13 episode TV series (though wishing for it to be 14 episodes would be a miracle).

Surely they would need additional OVA's and/or movies...

I really have no idea how many chapters can fit into one episode when it comes to an anime adaption from a manga title....plus I'm sure that the animation studio has to put into alot of thought about the pacing.

Either way, I'm sure more episodes would be awesome for the fans of the manga, as long as they don't make drastic changes. /images/graemlins/happy.gif

Most shows average about four episodes a volume of manga, but considering how dialogue heavy Death Note is, it might be even more.

I wonder if Ghost Hunt is adaption the manga or the original, out of print novels?

And I wish the rest of the manga would hurry up and get released here in the States. I don't want to have to download the rest of the manga.

Considering how the AOD reviews have been trashing the manga each time they review it, I'd hope the novels were superior and that was what was getting the adaptation. Since I've not read either, I have no idea what to expect from the show, but as a big 12K fan I hope it'll be worthwhile.

Considering how the AOD reviews have been trashing the manga each time they review it, I'd hope the novels were superior and that was what was getting the adaptation. Since I've not read either, I have no idea what to expect from the show, but as a big 12K fan I hope it'll be worthwhile.

The AOD reviews of the manga are IMHO not fair. Personally I think it's a fantastic manga series. But I am basing my opinion on reading it in nihongo and it's possible that the English translated version isn't up to snuff.

It likely that the anime is based on the manga version as it's the latest version. Plus the manga seems to be quite popular with the Japanese fanbase.

I was only able to find and read the one two-part novel she did for Kodansha White Heart, the only part of the series to actually used the title Ghost Hunt.
The out of print portions of the series were for the Teens Heart label, and were very early works.
The Ghost Hunt novel was by far the weakest thing I've read by her, terrifying as it was, largely because the central POV character is dumb as a post and completely unlikeable. No idea if he's in the manga; I imagine not, since he wasn't part of the actual agency staff.

This is my first time discerning an anime from a manga I've already read plenty of, so it'll be interesting to see what they do with the material presented in the manga.

Why would they? The manga is finished. Hellsing was still ongoing when they made the anime, so they had no choice but to steer away.

Just to set the record straight, Moon Phase lists DeathNote starting on the 3rd of the 10 which is about 7-8 weeks away. I can't wait of this, though considering Death Note is dialogue heavy, I wouldn't be surprised if the show was around 75 episode long, like Monster. Now all we need now is a L or Kira name splashed on the shows homepage.

If I might be cynical, I don't think that's going to matter that much - Death Note is hardly all that action-packed, and so they'll probably get away without that much animation at all.

Looking forward to it, though.
