What channel or channels are anime going to be on direct tv? I am not sure of the service so I and some people I know would like to find out.

I'm not sure which particular shows you are looking for, but Encore Action and WAM seem to run a lot of anime. EACT (532) had Technolyze from 9-10pm PDT and EWAM (533) had Gokusen and Samurai Deeper Kyo from 10-11pm PDT tonight. You can check the current program schedule here (http://www.directv.com/DTVAPP/epg/theGuide.jsp?tz=p&l=&dma=&z=&c=&ct=&sml=1&sp=n&sd= a&d=230&h=22).

Aside from what has been shown on Encore Action or WAM, there is nothing really outside of Cartoon Network, when it comes to anime on DirecTV. I know ADV has tried for quite a while to get the Anime Network on DirecTV and after a long time, their efforts resulted in just a trial run in the Pay Per View channels months ago. I am very skeptical DirecTV will really bring on the Anime Network or Funimation's channel, since ADV tried so long and only resulted in just a trial run.

So, if you are looking for On-Demand anime channels, the Anime Network, or Funimation's Channel, DirecTV is not the place to look. I pray DirecTV will give ADV or Funi a channel on the line up, but at this point I am not giving up my hopes. However, I can say I have been 100% satisfied with their service, their prices are very reasonable, and it would take a lot for me to switch over to cable or Dish at this point.

I've often wondered what was up with that (lack of TAN on DTV). I am sure it involves money, but who is offering too little or who is asking too much, I have no idea.

I will second the recommendation for the DirecTV service, however. Had it for 10 years and there would have to be some pretty extreme circumstances for me to even consider going to cable.

I forget the name of the channel -- Colors, perhaps? -- but I was watching a subtitled Jackie Chan movie which was followed by some Funimation stuff.

TechTV used to play anime a lot, no idea if they still do though or if that channel is even still called TechTV.

TechTV's anime programming was called Anime Unleashed. TechTV was bought out by G4, a cable company (Comcast?) owned network devoted to video games. They continued AU for a while, but cancelled it a while ago. Anyone know any recent information?

I don't know what channels they carry, but Anime on TV (http://www.animeontv.com/index.php) is your best resource.

As for getting DirecTV to carry The Anime Channel, the Anime News Service has a recent news item which is tangentally germaine:

"8-18-06 (9:15PM EDT)---- Internet Video Distributor Issues FCC Complaint (http://www.animenewsservice.com/)"

The direct link (http://www.digitalproducer.com/articles/viewarticle.jsp?id=58419) to the quoted article.

Looking through the Anime on TV listings, I didn't notice any show that hasn't been broadcast on one of the DirecTV channels - TOON, EACT, EWAM, TCM, IFC - though maybe over a longer period of time. Perhaps they share the same programming resource?

I'm sorry, but I don't understand what you are trying to say. ^_^; Would you please be so kind as to rephrase your statement?

The original poster wanted to know about anime on DirecTV. You indicated Anime on TV was his best resource. However, the times and channel names listed there don't correspond to DTV's program schedule. I was saying the shows may come from the same distributors, but didn't see how Anime on TV was a better resource. Sorry for the confusion. /images/graemlins/shy00000.gif

Well, the Direct tv that's running in Puerto Rico(Direct TV Latin America (http://www.directvla.com/)) does have the Latin American version of Animax (http://www.animax-la.com/animax/index.html).

Here's the current schedule (http://www.animax-la.com/animax/schedule.html)(of course that the shows will be broadcasted in spanish or with spanish subtitles)

Colours TV channel 9396 or 9407 on Dish Network has the Funimation block of shows on it.
