I can't believe it took me watching this series two and a half times before I noticed that Ryo is a southpaw!
(this useless trivia bit brought to you by the letter O and H and a very inattentive anime viewer)

Yay for leftys! /images/graemlins/sdsmiley.gif
Come to think of it, I don't remember how or when I first noticed that, though it was during my first viewing of Princess Nine... either I was being particularly observant, or it was mentioned early on.
This is yet another show that I'm waiting for to come around in my viewing rotation again.

assuming she uses the same hand to write with, her pitching wouldn't be the only thing I'd be mesmerized with.

*blinks*
I'm almost positive that this is mentioned in the series at least once.

Yeah, it's oviously all over the place. It just never seemed to register in my consious mind that she was left handed.

I understand that Boy Ranma and Girl Ranma are actually the same person!
Actually, that happens to me a lot, too. In the sixth volume of Princess Tutu, I only just noticed that in the opening animation, the faces in the paintings in the backgroud are moving as Tutu dances.

I first noticed that Ryo was a lefty when I watched the ADV trailers, years before I watched the TV series. My brother is left-handed, so I tend to pay a bit more attention to who is and who isn't.
I'm trying to remember if anyone else was a lefty.... I know that Yuki was listed as being a lefty somewhere, but she threw and batted right handed. Hikaru was the switch hitter, right? Where is that list now that I need it?

Everybody else throws and bats right handed, except Ryo.

I'm a huge baseball fan and was a switch hitter (for little league/softball), so I also am sensitive to the handness of a particular player (throwing and batting)...I noticed that Ryo is a southpaw off the bat (as well as Hikaru the switch hitter).

Just to broaden this thread a bit, who are some of the other left-handed characters in anime?

Well, there's a whole lot of lefties in manga...
Flipped manga, that is. /images/graemlins/happy.gif /images/graemlins/happy.gif

I both hoped and dreaded that Mitsuru Adachi's Touch manga would get licensed back in the '90s so we could see all those left-handed batters running to third.

This question has come up at rec.arts.anime.misc from time to time (I just unearthed the thread that started on 29 Dec. 2000 -- even longer ago than I thought! There's been at least one other since...) They came up with a fairly long list of characters, actually, but two things are clear:
There are very few lead characters who are left-handed; and
the proportion of leftie characters in manga and anime is much smaller than in the real human population ("officially" given as around 10%, but many people have suggested that the percentage of people born left-handed may be at least 30%, with most of them "trained" out of this "behavior"...).
