This was posted over at the Anime News Network forum:

If anyone tried to access Ohayocon's website at www.ohayocon.com (http://www.ohayocon.com), you might have noticed that it has been temporarily shut down. According to Anime News Service, the official website of the anime convetion by the same name has been taken down, what remains in it's place is a notice of violation of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, mentioning content currently residing within it's domain infringes on the copyrights and intellectual property of multiple individuals and corporations. However, I went to Anime-Cons.com and was able to access Ohayocon's website, which now has the domain of www.ohayocon.org (http://www.ohayocon.org)

The organizers of Ohayocon confirmed that the site was not hacked, but cannot express any more details at this time. If you have any questions regarding Ohayocon, please e-mail the contact displayed on the webpage.

I know a little of the story, but a gmail account on a "legal" notice and no name? /images/graemlins/icon_rolleyes.gif

Hmmm...I'm wondering if this will have any effect on them actually running Ohayocon next year. I plan to make the trip to Columbus for next year's con, but only for Saturday (weather permitting, of course).

No. The notice was (obviously) fake and their site is online here:

Quoting a reliable souce this whole spat occured as part of a department head who lead their web team being relieved of their duties as staff. Apparently a couple other staffers have been asked to leave as well but I am unsure of their former positions within the con.

Personally, I am very saddened to see this happen as I loved OhayoCon as it was my first convention I attended as a member of a press outlet and as the con was very enjoyable. (and it had a GREAT location!) I do hope that what I was told was not true as I would love to see the convention succeed - but even if it was true, OhayoCon can easily pick up the mess and try to run with whatever momentium they can get before January and still be a fun con and be successful.

Well, yeah...but I didn't mention that since they hadn't posted that in public. /images/graemlins/anger200.gif

For those of you planning on attending Ohayocon this weekend in Columbus, they just posted the schedule on their website, which you can access at the top of the thread. Monica Rial's roast is scheduled for Friday at 6:00 PM at the main area of the Hyatt Regency.

Hope to see most of you there! :D

I think now that Ohayocon is over, it's best to just lock this discussion of their web woes.
