I'm new so I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask but I was wondering where can I buy the R3 DVD of Pretear?

It's unlikely that you'll be able to find it at this point. It isn't een lited as one of Odex's titles anymore, and is liekly out of print. Hell it's hard enough getting one's hands on the *recent* Odex titles. Unless you specifically need the R3 for something, waiting for a sale and picking up the thinpak set ADV released is going to be much easier (and about as expensive if not cheaper).

Thanks. I mainly wanted it because I didn't like how ADV did the dub and some of the translation. Plus I wanted to compare them both sets for a project that I'm working on.

The Odex release has no dub, so there's nothing to compare it to (they've only recently started doing dub work, for instance on the Dan Doh! and Fantastic Children releases for Bandai).

The translation is in Singaporean English, so characters apparently say things like "Yap!" occasionally.

I don't recall noticing that. However, the subtitles do have other minor problems. Here's the bit about subtitles from my review of the Odex set in the fansite I made years back:

The subtitles are generally good, but there are occasional spelling mistakes. There are also points where the translator appears to be confused about who's speaking and gets pronouns wrong ('it' or 'she' when it should be 'he'). Finally, at some moments when two people speak in quick succession, their utterances are included in the same subtitle, which makes it a little bit confusing.

These minor irritations won't stop you from understanding what's going on, even where they occur, but they may be disconcerting.

I haven't updated it since the ADV release, which I obviously haven't seen. When the Odex release was available and cheaper, it may have been a good buy, and it does still have the advantage of original Japanese-language video including OP/ED etc. It's not particularly bad or anything. But now that ADV's release is discounted, I suspect that's the better buy.

By the way, I'm assuming that Odex only does dubs when contracted by Bandai? The dubs are probably done by the normal US studios? Or is that a misunderstanding on my part...

Boys Be... was more famous for "yap!" than any other Odex releases.
