View Full Version : Anime spinoff series you'd like to see featuring the antagonist as the main character

I've been reading Peach Girl: Sae's Story . I think it's a fairly neat idea to do a spinoff series featuring the main villain of the 1st series as the main character in the spinoff. What anime series would you like to have a similar spinoff?

Just a note though: I'm NOT talking about alternate universes, I'm talking about sequels (prequels or stories set in the middle of the original series is also okay).

Hmm this is harder than I thought... Most villains are either too shallow to stand on their own, or just not interesting, or are best left in the role of antagonist. Many villains are interesting as individuals to hate, not so much individuals to focus on for a whole series.

The best choices would be "villains" that aren't quite so black and white to begin with, such as Miyu and Alyssa from My~HiME. Ditto for the Laughing Man from GitS:SAC. More of Tsubasa from Kannazuki would be interesting, but not for a whole series... more like an ep or two of extended flashback, if that.

I could go for a bit more of Saitou from Kenshin, although he did get a lot of screentime already in the second arc (haven't seen Meiji).

I wanted to work Nanoha into this somehow, but I think we've already seen a heck of a lot of development/backstory/etc for the "villains" already, and we of course have StrikerS to look forward to...

Although Burst Angel had a sloppy plot, I was very intrigued by the whole Maria/Joe confrontations. Maria was my favorite character (other then Joe of course) since she was more slick, badass and also crazy. /images/graemlins/tongue.gif I really enjoyed the final battle with her and Joe. Maria and Joe beated the hell out of each other and finally gave fighting. Then Maria helped Joe and Meg escape the area before getting gunned down by her subordinates. I think she deserves more recognition then what she got, kinda makes me mad that the infamous Meg would be more likely to get a spinoff series.

I know some people find him annoying, but I think I could watch an anime starring Jinnai from El-Hazard, he just cracks me up, especially in the English dub... /images/graemlins/happy.gif

I would love to see an Evangelion spin-off who's story takes place from the perspective of Gendo Ikari (yes, I consider him to be the "antagonist" of Evangelion. Bite me. XD)

I would like one with Juri, or Ruka. /images/graemlins/tongue.gif Even though really, I guess they are kind of one trick pony characters.... /images/graemlins/relief1.gif And not really too clear on the whole anatagonist thing...

Or Relena Peacecraft from Gundam Wing, or any of the other girl characters. I know people find her annoying, but I like her. Although she's not a true villian..... Her brother and Noin in their academy days might be interesting.. or Lady Une and Treize...

I'd honestly like to see one of Baki the Grappler focusing around Yujiro Hanma.

I used to feel this way about Ashram from Record of Lodoss War; apparently others felt the same, as Legend of Crystania dealt with what happened to him (and his descendants) after being beat by Parn in the TV series .

Another idea I'd like to see is a series that focuses on Vicious from Cowboy Bebop. Or at least a series that fleshes out what happened during his earlier years with Spike and Julia. Could make for an interesting spin-off. Maybe run that series alongside another Bebop spin-off I'd like to see: Cowgirl Ed, featuring a 21-year old Edward as the hero. C'mon, you know you want to see that!

I'd love to see a spinoff series with Urumi Kanzaki from GTO. She is a awsome character, and at the end of the GTO manga, I could see a sequel with her as the main character.

Yeah, I'd sign up to buy that! Especially if they retain Kotono Mitsuishi at the seiyuu again. But, realistically, I don't think there is any chance that her future does not involve Onizuka. Either that, or prison after stalking him.

Anyway, as for an antagonist... How about Valgaav, from Slayers Try? It could chronicle his hatching from the egg Filia's keeping, his childhood, and journey for redemption, perhaps getting involved in part of a bigger plot ala Slayers. Give him a cute, hyper female traveling companion as a foil! /images/graemlins/catgirl0.gif

I've gotta say, I love me some good bad guy

Vicious --Cowboy Bebop. Chronicling his early days in the syndicate with Spike. Perhaps a Berserk-like scenario as you see Vicious dark side grow. Or, he could simply be ambitiously evil from the start, I don't think Spike would have been bothered too much by that

--Trigun. Perhaps not too much about Knives, but the next guy down the evil ladder, the one that [if I remember correctly] drove Vash to kill him

Father Anderson --Hellsing. Everones favourite padre who likes to fight evil, and seems to be a little himself

The Boys --Gungrave. Not a whole lot to tell, but how Harry and the gang took control of the city and branched out could be interesting. Perhaps exploring the political side to things a little aswell, like how he sold the Orgmen to foreign dictators and controlled the Police. Not sure that actually needed spoiler tags, but I added them anyway

Adam and the Angels --NGE. Risky business elaborating on them, the mystery is part of what intrigues me, but some answers could be great

The Godhand --Berserk. Im not sure how things transgressed after the anime finished and the manga carried on going, but I'd buy an OAV that elaborated on the former demon risings, Griffiths life after the transformation [depending on how evil he became], or even Nosferatu Zod and his 'adventures', whether they be pre or post awakening

OAV Ashram --Lodoss War OAV. The more ambitious Ashram who had dreams of his own instead of blindly following Beld's ideals

I'd like to see ALL of the Fushigi Yuugi novels adapted (not just Eikoden), which would mean that a few antagonists would get to take lead roles (Nakago and the twins have their own novels. Tomo appears in Nakago's, but I'd love for Tomo to get his own novel and OVA since he's pretty interesting and his past is still pretty vuage in Nakago's novel. Maybe one for Miboshi too).

Saitou would be cool, but I'd be apprehentious about a series solely about him. His relationships with Kenshin and Sano are really what fuelled his appeal to me

Put him in that scenario again, enlightening us more about his Shinsengumi past, his feud his Kenshin, perhaps even his thoughts on Aoshi and what thier relationship would be. Now THAT I would buy!

I'd like to see some stories about Shishio. One about what happens after Kenshin gives up being hitokiri and another about how he plans to overthrow the devil himself.
An Enishi story about what happens after the series ends would be good too.

I'd like to see a series starring Toguro, showing his and Genkai's exploits when they were younger or their fights during the previous Dark Tournament.

Akio and Anthy from Utena always needed more explaining of motivations than the "mysterious" treatment he received. So I'd like some kind of prequel or an expansion of the third arc from his perspective.

Eriol from Cardcaptor Sakura got pretty short-shrift when it came to his current lifestyle. Heck, even his backstory is a little sketchy, beyond the "not-so-secret origins" aspect.

Frankly, CLAMP has several good villains and antiheroes that could probably serve as the protagonist of their own dark continuation stories: Seishirou from Tokyo Babylon/X, Gingetsu from Clover (manga), Zagato from Rayearth, and Clow's evil brother & Himawari-chan from Tsubasa/XXXholic.

Somebody mentioned Hellsing, and I think those wacky Iscariot division folks could have their own side series (they sort of do already, in the manga).

Wait a minute here. You want to see Pixy Misa's gluttonous adventures be made into an anime? You're a genius. Quick call up AIC and tell them they have a reason to continue Magical Project S, but this time from a new perspective. Also for those worried about it don't be. By the magic of fantasy it's possible to eat for 70 people and never gain weight.

I would have to say there are two of them that come to mind.

Lupon, I would love to see a movie or short series as shown from the Inspectors point of view. He often comes out ahead as he catches criminals even worse than Lupon with Lupons help. Castle of Cogliastro did a nice job of hinting at this.

The other are the Slayers OVA’s and movies. Naga needs her own coming of age story as Lina did in Slayers and Slayers NEXT.

Yes, since one of the themes Lina and Naga have is that they go into a town or situation and get hired by opposing sides of a struggle or issue. Slayers Great, Gorgeous and the OVA about the fashion fanatics have this as the theme.

If you know the history of Naga as Amelia's sister and Crown Princess of Sailune, why she left and the possible pain inside her that she keeps from everyone including Lina, it leads to some interesting plot bunnies.

Stan is right. Lina considers Naga to be no more than goldfish poop and one of her goals is to ditch Naga, which she finally does right before she meets Gourry.

Seeing how Lina finally ditches Naga would also be a great story.
