I noticed a few days ago that there have been some sony anime titles re-released under theAniplex label for the very cheap price of 2625yen. I have only seen Wild Arms and Gravitation, what other series were released like this? Are there any changes to the discs or packaging other than the new logo?

Popolocrois Monogatari, and I think Great Teacher Onizuka and Kodomo no Omocha as well.

Hmmm, GTO and Kodomo no Omocha are definately 2 series I want to pick up, I am not sure what the Popolocrois anime is like though. I will check them out, thanks for the help.

Looking on Amazon JP, I found no cheap GTO or Kodocha discs (just the regular 3990 Kodocha discs) /images/graemlins/depresse.gif Looks like the only cheap releases of Kodocha and GTO were the very limited sets released in 2003 where each disc equated to 2000yen...

It's a fantasy adventure show with kids as the central characters: Pietro is the prince of the kingdom, with a human father and a mother from the Dragon tribe; his best friend is an apprentice witch, who can change shape (inborn talent or magic-based?); and into their lives falls (literally) a young girl from the Wind tribe. There's also a comical mad scientist type character, who's infatuated with the young witch. Music by Kow Ohtani (Haibane Renmei, Daphne, etc).
There's a video game series also, but I'm not certain how closely they're related.

I liked it enough to buy it twice, on LD and the cheap DVD re-issue.

Sony experimented with a few low price releases back in 2002 before they set up Aniplex. Chances are slim of seeing any of the other releases from the Lucky Price 2000 campaign (http://www.sonymusic.co.jp/Animation/lucky/) this time around. Wild Arms, Gravitation and Gakkou no Kwaidan (Ghost Stories in School) have been re-released a number of times since then at various prices. Most of the others have not seen the light of day again.
Media Factory has started putting out some cheap sets with the upcoming Narue no Sekai DVD-BOX (http://www.mediafactory.co.jp/cgi-bin/db_detail.cgi?id=6787) and UFO Princess Valkyrie DVD- BOX (http://www.tokinoyu.net/market/index.html#tvbox).

Interesting, I haven't played the games but I know of the general story. I wasn't sure how it translated into anime though (as most game anime aren't that good) but after you recomendation, I may just give it a shot.

I remember when that "Lucky Price 2000" campaign started, I bought SFII, Vampire Hunter D (the quality of both is pretty horrible, 2 of the worst quality DVDs I own. I will never know why Capcom didn't comision a new animorphic release of the movie for the 15th aniversary of the game or even the 10th for the movie)and Yokohama. I really wanted the Kodocha set back then but it was too much money for me /images/graemlins/depresse.gif It sold out almost imediately from what I remember and is rare as hell to find used and probably 3 times the original price anyway.
It's nice to see some more companies putting out cheaper box sets, I wish more companies would do it!
